How to get it

Rare drop from Zul'jan, the third and last boss of the Altar of Fangs dungeon, on Mythic difficulty and in Mythic+: it is in Zul'jan's Strongbox after a Mythic kill and in the Challenger's Cache at the end of a Mythic+ run. Players report more than one dropping in the same run, so each player seems to have a chance of their own. The dungeon is entered at the Amani Foothold inside the Vaults of Atal'Utek, the underground temple of The Coiled Isle; Rav'i and The Writhing Coil come before Zul'jan.

Chance 3.92% per try, so about 26 tries on average — Wowhead item page (read 2026-10-11): 134 mounts in 3,420 recorded openings of the Challenger's Cache in Altar of Fangs, the chest at the end of a Mythic+ run = 3.92% for each looting player. Zul'jan's Strongbox, the chest outside Mythic+, has 31 in 3,917 = 0.79%, a count that may take in Normal and Heroic kills, on which players say it does not drop. Notes and sources

Added in patch 12.1.0 (11 August 2026). It drops from Zul'jan (NPC 259447 by Wowhead's guide) in Altar of Fangs; the journal, the wiki and Wowhead's guide to the patch's mounts (2026) say only that.

The difficulty comes from players' comments on Wowhead (2026):

one says it drops on Mythic and on no other difficulty (not the dungeon finder, Normal or Heroic)
a reply adds Mythic+
two more report it from +10 keystones

Wowhead records it in exactly two chests, Zul'jan's Strongbox (object 660768) and the dungeon's Challenger's Cache (object 642076). Wowhead's Season 2 Mythic+ rewards guide (2026) does not mention the mount. A news piece from before the patch, seen only as a search excerpt, had the test-realm journal list it for every difficulty and expected that to change.

No lockout is counted, because a Mythic+ run can be repeated without limit with a keystone for this dungeon (one's own or a group member's); on plain Mythic the dungeon is on a daily reset since Season 2 began on 18 August 2026 (Blizzard's news post). Altar of Fangs is one of the eight Mythic+ dungeons of Midnight Season 2, so the Mythic+ route lasts as long as it stays in the rotation; no source says the mount goes away with the season.

Chance: 'multiple can drop in one run' (a 2026 comment), which fits a separate roll for each player; one player saw two drop in 19 Mythic runs. An early comment read 11% on Wowhead's page, and three later 2026 comments suspect the chance was lowered after the first weeks; nothing official bears that out, and it may only be the early count settling.

The time on the spot is an estimate for one run of the three bosses; no source gives one, and a Mythic+ run has a timer of its own.

Entrance: /way #2509 47.29 68.16 by Method (2026), on the Vaults' own map; a seller's guide seen in a search excerpt has 47.2, 67.6. The guide files it under continent 2916 and without flying, as for its other Vaults mounts. Method names the Gate of the Eastern Fang (45.90, 64.93, across the bridge from Tokka's Landing) and the Gate of the Western Fang (31.10, 64.94) as the two that lead straight to the Amani Foothold. The game's own table of instance entrances has no entry for this dungeon. Finishing it in time on a +10 keystone or higher gives a teleport to the entrance (search excerpt, not confirmed).

Item 276804 teaches the mount; it binds when picked up and asks for level 10 (wiki). A second item id, 279208, was also given for the mount, but Wowhead's tooltip feed answers 'Entity not found' for it, so only item 276804 is known to teach it. Wowhead's tooltip for Zul'jan (2026) has him as an elite in Altar of Fangs.

Not established: whether a character that has not done the campaign can reach the isle simply by flying over, and whether the Mythic+ end chest gives its mount roll when the timer is missed.
