Sold by Rook Hawkfist, the Darnassus Quartermaster in the Silver Covenant Pavilion at the Argent Tournament, for 500 gold plus 5 Champion's Seals, to characters who are Champion of Darnassus. A character that is not a night elf also has to be Exalted with Darnassus.
Time there about 2 min a visit
Before you go
- Champion of Darnassus: 3 days of Aspirant dailies (15 Aspirant's Seals at 5 a day), then 5 days of Valiant of Darnassus dailies (25 Valiant's Seals at 5 a day) and The Valiant's Challenge. A character that is not a night elf champions its own city first and Darnassus after it: 13 days · about 3 h over 8 days
- Exalted with Darnassus, unless the buyer is a night elf: the Darnassus Tabard from Rook Hawkfist (10 silver) worn in dungeons turns their reputation into Darnassus's, and a Champion's Writ, taken instead of a Champion's Purse from the Champion dailies, buys a Darnassus Commendation Badge from him · about 3 h
- 5 Champion's Seals, which the journal text does not mention (covered by the 10 awarded by A Champion Rises on reaching Champion)
- 500 gold
In all: about 6 h of play, spread over 8 days, 500 gold, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Icecrown 76.2 19.2 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Crystalsong Forest*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
Alliance characters only. The journal's 'Cost: 500 gold' leaves out the 5 seals: the wiki's page for the mount has '500 gold 5 Champion's Seal', and its page for Rook lists the mount twice, once at 500 gold and once at 5 seals. Wowhead's page for the item was not read for its vendor data; for the Stormwind twin, the Swift Gray Steed, it shows 500 gold and 5 of currency 241. At Exalted the gold price should fall to 400, as for the Swift Gray Steed (from a comment and the wiki's vendor list for Stormwind); that was not read for this vendor.
The coordinates given above are Wowhead's tooltip for Rook Hawkfist (NPC 33653), 76.2, 19.2, as read for the Darnassian Nightsaber; the wiki gives none. The item asks for level 17 by the wiki; Wowhead's tooltip shows Apprentice Riding. His other mount, the Darnassian Nightsaber, costs 100 Champion's Seals.
Wowhead has 2 items that teach this mount, both sold by Rook Hawkfist for 500 gold: 46744, whose tooltip has no reputation line, and 46759, which reads 'Requires Darnassus - Exalted' and lists every Alliance race (tooltip as read in 2026). As for the tournament's other racial mounts, that is taken as the usual rule for racial mounts: a night elf is sold the first, any other Alliance race needs Exalted for the second. Which item he shows to whom was not confirmed in the game.
The sources do not quite agree on who may buy:
- the wiki's page for the mount (edited 2026): 'Rook will only sell to night elves or champions of Darnassus'
- his gossip on the wiki: 'Alas, only champions of Darnassus may purchase what I have to offer'
- Wowhead's guide (last edited 2022): these mounts unlock on becoming an Exalted Champion of the city
- Wowhead comments quoted in the notes for the Swift Gray Steed: a character of another race must be Exalted and a champion
Whether a night elf who is not yet Champion can buy from him was not established, so Champion is kept as a requirement for everyone; for a night elf Darnassus is the first city anyway, eight days. Which city a race without one of the five Alliance cities starts with was not established (the notes for the Swift Gray Steed quote a 2024 comment on a dracthyr who could not begin the Valiant quests).
The wiki marks Champion's Seals as Warband Transferrable since patch 11.0.0, so seals from a different character of the warband will do; the Champion rank is the character's own. Since patch 7.2.5 the tournament's mounts only have to be unlocked on one faction (Wowhead's guide).
Added in patch 3.1.2. Much of this follows the notes for the Swift Gray Steed, the same mount of the tournament for Stormwind.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
