Sold by Corporal Arthur Flew, the Stormwind Quartermaster in the Silver Covenant Pavilion at the Argent Tournament, for 500 gold plus 5 Champion's Seals, to characters who are Champion of Stormwind. A character that is not a human also has to be Exalted with Stormwind.
Time there about 2 min a visit
Before you go
- Champion of Stormwind: 3 days of Aspirant dailies (15 Aspirant's Seals at 5 a day), then 5 days of Valiant of Stormwind dailies (25 Valiant's Seals at 5 a day) and The Valiant's Challenge. A character that is not a human champions its own city first and Stormwind after it: 13 days · about 3 h over 8 days
- Exalted with Stormwind, unless the buyer is a human: the Stormwind Tabard from Corporal Arthur Flew worn in dungeons turns their reputation into Stormwind's, and a Champion's Writ, taken instead of a Champion's Purse from the Champion dailies, buys a Stormwind Commendation Badge from him (250 reputation) · about 3.5 h
- 5 Champion's Seals, which the journal text does not mention (covered by the 10 awarded by A Champion Rises on reaching Champion)
- 500 gold
In all: about 6.5 h of play, spread over 8 days, 500 gold, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Icecrown 76.4 19.2 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Crystalsong Forest*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
Alliance characters only. The journal's 'Cost: 500 gold' leaves out the 5 seals. At Exalted the gold price falls to 400 (a 2009 comment; the wiki's vendor list shows 400).
The coordinates given above are Wowhead's tooltip for Corporal Arthur Flew (76.4, 19.2), as read for the Stormwind Steed; the wiki gives none. The item asks for level 17 and Apprentice Riding by the wiki; Wowhead's tooltip shows level 1 and Apprentice Riding. His other mount, the Stormwind Steed, costs 100 Champion's Seals.
Wowhead has two items that teach this mount, both sold by Corporal Arthur Flew for 500 gold: 46752, whose tooltip has no reputation line, and 46758, which reads 'Requires Stormwind - Exalted' and lists every Alliance race (both as read in 2026). As for the tournament's other racial mounts (the Great Golden Kodo among them), that is taken as the usual rule for racial mounts: a human is sold the first, any other Alliance race needs Exalted for the second. Which item he shows to whom was not confirmed in the game.
The sources do not quite agree on who may buy:
- the wiki's page for the mount says Arthur 'will only sell to humans or champions of Stormwind' and quotes him: 'Only champions of Stormwind may purchase what I have to offer'
- the wiki's Argent Tournament page says the city rewards ask for the right to champion that city, not for Exalted
- a 2009 Wowhead comment on the item: a character that is not a human must be Exalted with Stormwind
- a 2012 comment: it must be Exalted and a champion of the city unless it is of that race
- Wowhead's guide (last edited 2022) lists the Swift Gray Steed at 5 Champion's Seals and says these mounts unlock on becoming an Exalted Champion of the city
Whether a human who is not yet Champion can buy from him was not established, so Champion is kept as a requirement for everyone; for a human Stormwind is the first city anyway, eight days.
The wiki marks Champion's Seals as Warband Transferrable since patch 11.0.0, so seals from a different character of the warband will do; the Champion rank is the character's own. More seals a day are possible than this mount needs (wiki: up to 17 a day with everything open).
Which city a race without one of the five Alliance cities starts with was not established. A 2024 comment under Wowhead's guide says a dracthyr could not begin the Valiant quests without a ticket to a game master, and a 2026 one walks a character new to the tournament through the start, from the portal to Dalaran (Northrend) on.
Wowhead's guide notes that since patch 7.2.5 the tournament's mounts only have to be unlocked on one faction, and a 2019 comment on the item says learning this one on an Alliance character gave the Swift Burgundy Wolf to the same account's Horde characters.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
