Made with Tailoring. Frozo the Renowned in the Magus Commerce Exchange of Dalaran (the old one over Northrend) sells Pattern: Frosty Flying Carpet for 6 Frozen Orbs; it is learned at Northrend Tailoring 50, and the carpet takes 1 Moonshroud, 1 Spellweave, 1 Ebonweave and 4 Frozen Orbs. Pattern and carpet both bind when picked up, so the tailor who sews it is the one who learns it, and a character has to know Tailoring to ride it afterwards.
Time there about 5 min a visit
Before you go
- Tailoring learned on this character and Northrend Tailoring raised to 50 at a Northrend tailoring trainer (Charles Worth stands in the same quarter of Dalaran), who also teaches Moonshroud, Spellweave and Ebonweave at 40. Bolts of Frostweave stop giving skill after the first few points and Bolts of Imbued Frostweave are learned at 25, so most of the skill comes from sewing Frostwoven pieces · about 1.5 h
- 10 Frozen Orbs, 6 for the pattern and 4 for the carpet: sold for 75 gold apiece by the Legacy Justice Quartermasters in Dalaran (Arcanist Ivrenne in the Silver Enclave for the Alliance, Magistrix Lambriesse for the Horde), and dropped by the end bosses of Northrend's Heroic dungeons · about 0.1 h
- The three cloths, each sewn from 1 Bolt of Imbued Frostweave and 2 Eternals: Eternal Life for Moonshroud, Eternal Fire for Spellweave, Eternal Shadow for Ebonweave. That is 3 imbued bolts (6 Bolts of Frostweave from 30 Frostweave Cloth, and 6 Infinite Dust) and 2 of each Eternal. Frozo sells the Eternals for 1 Frozen Orb each (6 more orbs), or they are gathered as Crystallized Life, Fire and Shadow from the elementals of Wintergrasp. Infinite Dust comes only from disenchanting Northrend gear, so it takes an enchanter: the character's second profession or a second character of the account · about 1 h
In all: about 2.6 h of play, 750 gold, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Dalaran 40 28.3 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Crystalsong Forest*
- Fly the rest of the way
- Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Crystalsong Forest*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
The pattern is sold by Frozo for 6 Frozen Orbs (Wowhead's taught-by list; the wiki's pages for the pattern and for him, a 2010 Wowhead comment and wow.gg give the price). He floats on a carpet outside the Forge of Fate in Dalaran, at 40.0, 28.3 by Wowhead's tooltip and the wiki. This is the old Dalaran over Northrend (the wiki files him under Dalaran (Northrend)), not the one above the Broken Isles. The carpet is crafted anywhere once the pattern is known, so the place given above is the pattern's vendor.
Everything binds when picked up (Wowhead's tooltips; wiki), so the carpet cannot be made for somebody else: the character that wants the mount has to be the tailor.
The journal says only 'Profession: Tailoring'. The recipe is the same in Wowhead's created-by list (spell 75597, as read in 2026), in Wowhead's tooltip for the pattern (item 54798) and in the wiki:
- Moonshroud
- Spellweave
- Ebonweave
- 4 Frozen Orbs
Skill: the pattern's tooltip and the wiki give Northrend Tailoring 50, lowered from Tailoring 425 in patch 8.0.1 (July 2018). Wowhead's recipe list shows the recipe at 60, with skill-ups to 75, the same gap as for the Magnificent Flying Carpet. Take 50 as the least.
The cloths: the wiki has each as 1 Bolt of Imbued Frostweave and 2 Eternals, taught by trainers, with the old cooldown and the special places removed in patch 3.3.3 (March 2010). A Bolt of Imbued Frostweave is 2 Bolts of Frostweave and 2 Infinite Dust, a Bolt of Frostweave 5 Frostweave Cloth (the wiki, as given for the Flying Carpet); a 2010 Wowhead comment gives the same shopping list.
Frozen Orbs: the wiki says the end bosses of Wrath of the Lich King instances on Heroic; wow.gg adds the last boss of the Normal ones. With the Eternals bought from Frozo as well the bill is 16 orbs, 1,200 gold at the quartermasters' price. Where Magistrix Lambriesse stands was not looked up, and the wiki gives no coordinates for Ivrenne. A 2016 comment on Wintergrasp adds that the elementals could be reached only while the commenter's faction held the zone; whether that still applies was not checked.
Who can ride it: the tooltip asks for Northrend Tailoring (1); the comments that it takes 425 skill to ride (2015, 2016) predate patch 8.0.1. As found for the other carpets (see the Magnificent Flying Carpet), the mount stays in the collection and counts for mount achievements after Tailoring is unlearned (a 2015 comment on this one says it counted for the account at once), but a character without Tailoring cannot ride it. A flying mount; the wiki has it asking for level 27 and Apprentice Riding since patches 9.0.1 and 9.0.2.
Guides: wow.gg's (updated 2026) is out of date on exactly these points: it says Tailoring 425, cloths made at places of power with a cooldown of days, and Artisan Riding; it is not linked for that reason. Wowhead's guide to profession mounts (last edited 2022) is listed on the item's page.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
