Dropped every time by Aeonaxx, a rare stone drake that circles one of six points around the Temple of Earth in Deepholm. He shares those six points and one spawn timer with the Blood Seeker, a small bat that appears far more often, stays for 15 seconds and drops no mount; only one of the two is up at a time, and only the first player, or party of five or fewer, to hit Aeonaxx can loot him.

Guides Wowhead: The Crown Jewel of Deepholm: An Aeonaxx Guide · Warcraft Secrets: Phosphorescent Stone Drake – Rare Spawn Mount Guide
Before you go
- Aeonaxx being up, and being first to hit him. A spawn comes 2 to 8 hours after the body of the last one (either creature) has gone, at one of six points: East (55.0, 54.1), Northeast (53.7, 39.7), Center (49.1, 55.6), West (43.0, 50.8), South (50.5, 63.5) and Northwest (42.0, 43.6). Most spawns are the Blood Seeker, which is gone again after 15 seconds; seeing it means no spawn for at least 2 hours · about 80 h
In all: about 80 h of play, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Deepholm 49.1 55.6 - Take the portal from Eastern Earthshrine to Deepholm
- Fly the rest of the way
- Take the portal from Western Earthshrine to Deepholm
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal.
Notes and sources
The wait is the whole cost and cannot be planned. The hours given are waiting, much of it away from the keyboard, and the figure is rough. The place given above is the Center point, above the entrance to the Temple of Earth, from which Wowhead's guide says four of the six points can be reached with a target macro. The time on the spot is one look round the six points and the kill, an estimate.
Wowhead's guide (by xisthena, from the Secret Finding Discord's data, updated 2025):
- the timer runs from the moment the body of either creature disappears (Aeonaxx's a few minutes after his death, the bat's after its 15 seconds)
- a wait can look far longer than 8 hours because a 15-second Blood Seeker is easily missed
- once up, Aeonaxx circles his point until he is killed or the server restarts
Since patch 8.1.5 only the first group to hit him gets loot: a party of five or fewer, everyone in the zone and nearby before the first hit. A raid group cannot loot him, and neither can a Class Trial character. Wowhead's tooltip shows a 100% drop chance for the reins, and its guide and the wiki say the same.
He can be pulled by flying into him and resets if drawn more than 100 yards from his point. He enrages 4 to 5 minutes into the fight (Warcraft Secrets says 5 minutes) and then bites for half the target's health each time, which cannot be avoided.
Each War Mode setting, and Chromie Time, has its own copy of the zone with its own spawns, and roleplaying realms are not merged with other realms' zones, so fewer players look there. Xariona, the other rare dragon of Deepholm, has nothing to do with this timer.
The share of spawns that are Aeonaxx was never published: the wiki says about 6%, a fan wiki seen only as a search excerpt 1 in 16, neither naming a source, and Wowhead's guide says only that the Blood Seeker spawns much more frequently.
The sources on the timer and the fight:
- the wiki's page for Aeonaxx (edited 2025) still describes the fight as it was before patch 8.1.0, when he was friendly and had to be mounted and killed in flight while his whelps attacked, and gives the old timer of roughly 6 to 22 hours
- Wowhead's guide says the fight was changed in 8.1.0 and the timer is 2-8 hours now
- Warcraft Secrets gives the same timer as Wowhead's guide and the same six points
Wowhead's tooltip for Aeonaxx maps sightings all over the middle and north of the zone, which are from the old flight rather than spawn points. The reins bind when picked up.
