Sold as Reins of the Drake of the West Wind for 200 Tol Barad Commendations to a character that is Exalted with its side's Tol Barad faction: by Quartermaster Brazie of Baradin's Wardens at Baradin Base Camp (Alliance), or by Pogg of Hellscream's Reach at Hellscream's Grasp (Horde), both on Tol Barad Peninsula. Reputation and commendations come from the same daily quests: five or six a day at the camp, worth 6 commendations and 1,350 to 1,500 reputation together, and six more across the bridge on Tol Barad itself while the character's side holds it.

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight

Notes and sources
The mount has two items, one for each side, and both teach the same mount. A 2012 reply says it crosses factions, so either side's route gives it to the whole account; a 2013 reply says other characters ride it without the reputation. The journal names only the Alliance's vendor.
For the Alliance, item 63039: Wowhead's sold-by list (as read in 2026) gives it to Quartermaster Brazie alone (NPC 47328, friendly to the Alliance) at 200 of currency 391, the Tol Barad Commendation. For the Horde, item 65356: its tooltip reads 'Requires Hellscream's Reach - Exalted', and the wiki has Pogg selling it for the same 200; its Wowhead page was not opened.
Where they stand, by Wowhead's tooltips: Brazie at 72.4-72.6, 62.4-63.0 and Pogg at 54.4-54.6, 80.4-81.0. The wiki has 54.5, 81.4 for Pogg and 72.4, 58.8 for the Alliance camp as a whole. The place given for Pogg is the one used for the Spectral Wolf.
The commendations are the bottleneck, not the reputation. The best-rated comment (2011, +78) says 'You will get exalted long before you get 200' and warns against spending commendations on the faction's reputation token (Baradin's Wardens Commendation, 10 commendations), which would set the mount back. The Spectral Steed and Spectral Wolf cost 165 of the same commendations from the same vendors, so a collector after both needs 365.
What the quests pay, by a 2011 comment (+35):
- quests on Tol Barad itself pay 350 reputation, those on the peninsula 250
- most pay 1 commendation; one peninsula quest pays 2
- a battle won pays 3, and so does the weekly Victory in Tol Barad
A 2015 reply counts 15 commendations as the most in one day. With Tol Barad held every day, one player had the drake in two weeks (2012).
Wowhead's guide (written 2011, last edited 2024) puts the reins in the Exalted row at 200 commendations and describes the dailies. On the peninsula there are five or six every day, worth 6 commendations whatever the selection and 1,350 or 1,500 reputation (five quests on the day Shark Tank is offered). On Tol Barad, whenever the side holds it, there are two sets of three, one always the same and one picked from three, each set once a day, so 'up to an additional 6' after further wins.
The comments on this item's own page end in 2013. The most recent account of the zone is a 2024 comment on the Spectral Wolf: the portal stands with the Cataclysm portals of the capital and lands at the side's camp, the counter at the top of the screen shows who holds Tol Barad, and switching War Mode can show another shard. The wiki's table of travel has the Alliance's portal in Stormwind City leading to Baradin Base Camp; where in the city was not looked up.
No flying on the peninsula: the wiki files the zone under no-fly zones, which was not confirmed for the current game. The reins bind when picked up (Wowhead's tooltip) and ask for level 27 since patch 9.0.1 (wiki).
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
