Sold as Reins of the Spectral Wolf by Pogg, the Hellscream's Reach Quartermaster at Hellscream's Grasp on Tol Barad Peninsula, for 165 Tol Barad Commendations to a character that is Exalted with Hellscream's Reach. Both come from the same daily quests: six a day at Hellscream's Grasp, each paying 250 reputation and one commendation, and six more across the bridge on Tol Barad itself while the Horde holds it.

Getting there
/way Tol Barad Peninsula 54.6 81 - Take the portal from Western Earthshrine to Tol Barad*

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight

Notes and sources
This is the Horde route; the Alliance's twin is the Spectral Steed, bought from Quartermaster Brazie of Baradin's Wardens on the same terms (the game's mount table lists it at 165 commendations at Exalted with Baradin's Wardens). Comments of 2012 (+32, +25) and a 2017 reply say that owning either gives the other on the opposite faction's characters, so an account with the Steed already has the Wolf.
The journal's 'Cost: 165' is Tol Barad Commendations: Wowhead's sold-by list (as read in 2026) shows Pogg (npc 48531) alone, friendly to the Horde only, at 165 of currency 391. A 2014 comment warns that the journal once showed 200 gold, which was never the price. Wowhead's guide and the wiki's table for the faction put the reins in the Exalted row. Pogg stands at 54.4-54.6, 80.4-81.0 by Wowhead's tooltip and at 54.5, 81.4 by the wiki.
The portal: the game's own waypoint table has 'Take the portal from Western Earthshrine to Tol Barad', and a 2024 Wowhead comment (+13) says it stands near the Cataclysm portals of the capital and lands at the faction's camp on the peninsula.
That comment is the most recent account of the dailies:
- 6 to 8 quests at the camp every day
- six more on Tol Barad when the faction holds it (the counter at the top of the screen shows who does), reached over the bridge
- if it does not, switching War Mode can show another shard, or the next battle can be fought, in which three flags are taken
- a weekly quest for winning pays 3 commendations and some reputation
A 2020 comment says to look for quests with War Mode on and off. Wowhead's guide (last edited 2024): the peninsula's quests pay 6 commendations a day whatever the selection, with five quests instead of six on the day Shark Tank is offered; on Tol Barad one set of three is always the same and a second set of three depends on the cellblock that is open.
The wiki lists 21 peninsula quests from four quest givers (3rd Officer Kronkar, Private Sarlosk, Commander Larmash, Captain Prug) and says the quests are level 35; what the Tol Barad quests pay was not looked up. A 2012 comment reckons 10 days or less for the commendations with every daily done and Tol Barad held.
Pogg also sells a Hellscream's Reach Commendation for 10 Tol Barad Commendations (Wowhead's guide lists it at Friendly); what it gives was not looked up, and spending commendations on it would set the mount back.
No flying on the peninsula: the wiki files the zone under no-fly zones, which was not confirmed for the current game. The reins bind when picked up (Wowhead's tooltip).
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
