How to get it

Rare find in the Cache of the Fire Lord, the chest that appears when Ragnaros, the last boss of the Firelands raid, is defeated. The chest can hold it on Normal and on Heroic difficulty, at either raid size.

Chance 1.41% once a week, so about 71 tries on average — Wowhead lists the item under two objects named Cache of the Fire Lord: 549 in 32,471 recorded loots (1.69%) and 158 in 17,560 (0.90%), read 2026-10-10; together 707 in 50,031 = 1.41%. Wowhead does not say which difficulty or version of the raid each object belongs to; the counts are per looting player and pooled over all years, and the older ones take in the time before September 2012 when Heroic Ragnaros always gave the mount (wiki), so today's chance may be nearer the lower figure. Players and the Rarity addon assume 1 in 100; no official figure was published

Inside Firelands, a raid

Getting there

Firelands entrance
Mount Hyjal · 47, 78.2
/way Mount Hyjal 47 78.2
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1.7 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Eastern Earthshrine to Mount Hyjal
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.1 min of travel
  1. Fly there

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal.

Notes and sources

The journal names Ragnaros; the loot is in his chest, which is why Wowhead's tooltip carries no drop chance. Commenters from 2020 to 2023 say that since the raid was reworked for Timewalking a character can open the chest once on Normal and once on Heroic in the same week (change the difficulty and reset between the two), so two tries a week for each character; the game's own lockout rules were not read.

The way in, from comments of 2021 to 2025, instead of killing the first four bosses to raise the bridge:

  • go straight to Alysrazor and start the fight
  • pick up three of the feathers she drops to gain flight
  • kill her
  • fly across the gap where the bridge would rise and on to Ragnaros

Commenters report the mount still drops after this shortcut. The entrance is from the game's own table, and the raid asks for level 35 (the wiki's instance page, as given for the Corrupted Fire Hawk). The time on the spot is an estimate for one run to Ragnaros.

About 71 chests expected at the pooled 1.41%, about 100 at the 1 in 100 that players and Rarity use; commenters report the mount on the 1st, 16th, 23rd, 66th, 70th and 189th try. The Rarity addon does not count attempts in Firelands (comments of 2022 and 2023).

Also seen, only while Cataclysm Timewalking runs: the mount drops from Ragnaros in the Firelands Timewalking raid (a 2025 comment, with a screenshot) and has been in the Cache of Timewarped Treasures from that event's weekly quest, Disturbance Detected: Firelands (Wowhead: 27 in 10,585 caches, 0.26%; a 2026 comment).

A flying mount; the item, Smoldering Egg of Millagazor, binds when picked up and asks for level 27 (wiki).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
