Vicious War Steed

Sold by Necrolord Sipe, the Combatant Mount Quartermaster in Old Town, Stormwind City, for 1 Vicious Saddle. A saddle is earned in rated PvP while a season is running: wins at 1,000 rating (Combatant) or more fill the Season Rewards bar; the first full bar of a season gives that season's own vicious mount, and every further full bar in the same season gives a Vicious Saddle. The journal names the old way, the achievement Veteran of the Alliance (75 wins in the ten-against-ten Rated Battlegrounds bracket); see the notes for why the saddle is the route recorded.

Guide wow.gg: Horn of the Vicious War Wolf (the Horde counterpart; the same way to a saddle)

• This season's vicious mount first: reach 1,000 rating (Combatant) in a rated bracket and fill the Season Rewards bar once (roughly 40 wins in rated battlegrounds or Battleground Blitz, 80 wins in 3v3 or 240 in 2v2) · about 20 h
• 1 Vicious Saddle: fill the Season Rewards bar a second time in the same season · about 20 h

In all: about 40 h of play, starting from nothing.

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal.

Two ways are on record, and the vendor is the one followed here. Necrolord Sipe sells the Reins of the Vicious War Steed for 1 Vicious Saddle: the wiki's page for the reins and its page for him (edited 2026) both list them in his stock, and this is the route every source agrees on. The coordinates are the wiki's for him, the same as elsewhere in this guide.

Saddles can only be earned while a rated PvP season is running. The wiki's page for Midnight Season 2 (edited 2026) gives its start as 18 August 2026 and its end as ongoing; its own mount is the Vicious Lightbloom Boar. The wiki's wording for the saddle: one 'each time the Rated PvP progress bar is filled to 100%' after the current seasonal mount has been earned, and since patch 8.0.1 a character can earn several in a season.

The saddle binds when picked up and the vendor is an Alliance one, so the bar has to be filled on an Alliance character; the mount item itself binds to the Warband (wiki, Wowhead's tooltip). The guide gives no win count for Solo Shuffle, and the points a win pays were not found written by Blizzard; the bar on the Rated tab of the PvP window shows the progress. The guide linked is written for the Horde counterpart, the Vicious War Wolf, whose vendor is Deathguard Netharian in Orgrimmar; the way to a saddle is the same.

The achievement route: the journal gives 'Achievement: Veteran of the Alliance II', and Wowhead's tooltips still show 'Reward: Reins of the Vicious War Steed' on both Veteran of the Alliance (75 rated battleground wins, achievement 5328, which also gives the title) and Veteran of the Alliance II (150 wins, 5823), with account-wide progress since patch 11.0.0. The wiki adds Warbound Veteran of the Alliance and says the reins come in the mail with a letter from King Varian Wrynn. An account that already has 75 such wins should look in the mount list and the mailbox first.

But the achievement is a poor route today. Wowhead comments of 2024 and 2026 say Battleground Blitz wins do not count towards it, so the wins have to come from the ten-against-ten Rated Battlegrounds bracket. And what it hands over is unclear:

• commenters of 2018 and 2021 were given a Vicious Saddle instead of the mount
• one of 2023 got the title and neither mount nor saddle
• wow.gg says the veteran achievements 'are no longer tied to specific mounts'

Whether learning this mount also gives the Horde's Vicious War Wolf was not established. Added in patch 4.2.0, learned account-wide since 7.2.0; asks for level 17 and Apprentice Riding (wiki).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
