How to get it

Sold by Deathguard Netharian, the Combatant Mount Quartermaster in the Valley of Strength, Orgrimmar, for 1 Vicious Saddle. A saddle is earned in rated PvP while a season is running: wins at 1,000 rating (Combatant) or more fill the Season Rewards bar; the first full bar of a season gives that season's own vicious mount, and every further full bar in the same season gives a Vicious Saddle. The journal names the old way, the achievement Veteran of the Horde II (150 wins in the ten-against-ten Rated Battlegrounds bracket); see the notes for why the saddle is the route recorded.

Guides wow.gg: Horn of the Vicious War Wolf · Wowhead: Vicious Saddle Mounts from WoW PvP Guide (2020; Combatant was then 1,400 rating, now 1,000)

Before you go

This season's vicious mount first: reach 1,000 rating (Combatant) in a rated bracket and fill the Season Rewards bar once (2,400 points: roughly 40 wins in rated battlegrounds or Battleground Blitz at 60 points, 80 wins in 3v3 at 30, or 240 in 2v2 at 10) · about 20 h
1 Vicious Saddle: fill the Season Rewards bar a second time in the same season · about 20 h

In all: about 40 h of play, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources

Two ways are on record, and the vendor is the one followed here, as for the Alliance counterpart, the Vicious War Steed. Wowhead's sold-by list (as read in 2026) has Deathguard Netharian (npc 73151) alone selling the horn, at 1 Vicious Saddle (item 103533), and the wiki's pages for the horn and for Netharian (both edited 2026) say the same; this is the route every source agrees on. The coordinates are the wiki's for Netharian (42.0, 73.8), the same as elsewhere in this guide; Wowhead's tooltip has 41.8-42.0, 72.4-73.8.

Saddles can only be earned while a rated PvP season is running. The wiki's page for Midnight Season 2 (edited 2026) gives its start as 18 August 2026 and its end as ongoing, with 3v3 Arena, Solo Shuffle and Battleground Blitz as rated modes; its own mount is the Vicious Lightbloom Boar. The wiki's wording for the saddle: one 'each time the Rated PvP progress bar is filled to 100%' after the current seasonal mount has been earned, and since patch 8.0.1 a character can earn several in a season.

The saddle binds when picked up and the vendor is a Horde one, so the bar has to be filled on a Horde character; the mount item itself binds to the Warband (wiki, Wowhead's tooltip). No source gives a win count for Solo Shuffle, and the points a win pays were not found written by Blizzard; the bar on the Rated tab of the PvP window shows the progress.

The achievement route: the journal gives 'Achievement: Veteran of the Horde II', and Wowhead's tooltips still show 'Reward: Horn of the Vicious War Wolf' on both Veteran of the Horde (75 rated battleground wins, achievement 5325, which also gives the title) and Veteran of the Horde II (150 wins, 5824), with account-wide progress (since patch 11.0.0 by the wiki). Wowhead's item page lists Warbringer of the Horde (5326) as a third, and the wiki says the horn comes in the mail with a letter from Garrosh Hellscream. An account that already has 75 such wins should look in the mount list and the mailbox first.

But the achievement is a poor route today. Comments on Wowhead's page for Veteran of the Horde:

2017, 2018 and 2022: it handed over a Vicious Saddle instead of the mount
2024: the title and no mount, which support called a known bug
2026: Battleground Blitz wins do not count towards it, so the wins have to come from the ten-against-ten Rated Battlegrounds bracket

wow.gg says the veteran achievements 'are no longer tied to specific mounts'. Whether learning this mount also gives the Alliance's Vicious War Steed was not established: a 2022 comment under Wowhead's guide asks exactly that and has no answer.

Guides: wow.gg's page is current and written for this mount. Wowhead's own guide was last changed in 2020 (it speaks of Battle for Azeroth Season 4, a Combatant rank at 1,400 and no Blitz or Solo Shuffle) but lists this mount in Netharian's stock and explains the bar and the 2,400 points. Added in patch 4.2.0, learned account-wide since 7.2.0; asks for level 17 and Apprentice Riding (wiki).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
