How to get it

Rare drop from the Sha of Anger, the world boss of Kun-Lai Summit. Since patch 7.2 he always appears at the same place, on the Burlap Trail in the middle of the zone.

Chance 0.28% once a week, so about 357 tries on average — Wowhead: 240 mounts in 87,235 recorded loots of the Sha of Anger (0.28%, read 2026-10-10). The count is pooled over all years and Wowhead does not date it; Blizzard's hotfix notes of 16 November 2022, as quoted in Wowhead's comments, 'greatly increased' the drop chance without giving a figure, so today's chance is probably higher. Players since then guess about 1%, some 1-5% (Wowhead comments), and the Rarity addon uses 1 in 100

Time there about 15 min a visit

Getting there

Sha of Anger, Burlap Trail
Kun-Lai Summit · 53.6, 64.8
/way Kun-Lai Summit 53.6 64.8
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 2.3 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Jade Forest*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.5 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Jade Forest*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Wowhead's tooltip puts him at 54.4, 63.2; the wiki has 53.6, 64.8 and the Rarity addon 53.7, 64.7. Before patch 7.2 (March 2017) he had five possible places, which is why older guides list several. Players of both factions who engage him are eligible for loot (wiki, a 2014 hotfix).

He comes back 10 to 20 minutes after a kill, at random (wiki), so a visit can include that wait; the time there is an estimate. One chance per character each week, and an Elder Charm of Good Fortune gives a bonus roll with another chance at the mount (wiki; several commenters got it that way).

About 363 kills are expected at Wowhead's count, about 100 at the 1% players assume since the 2022 increase. Commenters since then report:

  • the mount on the first kill after the change
  • the mount at about 60, 107 and 121 tries
  • the mount after 350 attempts (2025)
  • 454 tries without it (2023)

Seen elsewhere, neither a standing route: the Sha of Anger of WoW's anniversary event in Tanaris dropped the mount in 2024 and 2025 (comments), and during WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria in 2024 it was sold for 38,500 Bronze (Wowhead's sold-by list).

Wowhead's page for the item jumps to its Mists of Pandaria Classic database in a browser, where the count is a different one (15,638 loots, no mount count); the figures here are the retail page's.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
