Made by an engineer with Pandaria Engineering at 75. The recipe comes with Schematic: Chief Engineer Jard's Journal, which drops from creatures anywhere in Pandaria once the engineer's skill is 75. Materials: 30 Jard's Peculiar Energy Source and 30 Living Steel. The energy source is made by the same engineer from 10 Ghost Iron Bars and only once a day, so the mount takes at least 30 days.
Time there about 3 min a visit
Before you go
- Engineering as a profession and Pandaria Engineering at 75, its maximum, learned from Sally Fizzlefury · about 1.5 h
- Schematic: Chief Engineer Jard's Journal: kill creatures in Pandaria until it drops, for instance at the Imperial Granary in the Valley of the Four Winds (about 51-56, 60-69). It teaches the energy source and the Sky Golem together · about 0.25 h
- 30 Jard's Peculiar Energy Source, one a day: each is 10 Ghost Iron Bars, 300 bars in all, made with an Arclight Spanner. It binds when picked up, so the engineer who builds the mount makes all thirty · about 3 h over 4 weeks
- 30 Living Steel: an alchemist's transmute of 6 Trillium Bars with a daily cooldown, or of 3 Trillium Bars and 3 Spirits of Harmony without one · about 10 h
In all: about 14.8 h of play, spread over 4 weeks, starting from nothing.

- Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Jade Forest*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
Three errands: learning Pandaria Engineering (the place given above), getting the journal, and a month of daily crafts. Sally Fizzlefury's coordinates are those given for the Depleted-Kyparium Rocket (wiki).
The journal's tooltip asks Pandaria Engineering (75); the wiki still words its drop as 'for engineers with 600 skill', the old scale, and Wowhead's recipe row likewise says learned at 600. Comments on the journal (2018 to 2025) agree it starts dropping at 75 and not before, from any Pandaria creature, dungeon and raid ones included. Wowhead's list runs to 200 creatures and more; places players name:
- the Imperial Granary in the Valley of the Four Winds (around 51-56, 60-69; a few minutes in 2022 and 2024)
- the mogu around the Ruins of Guo-Lai in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms
- the first packs of Mogu'shan Vaults
One journal teaches five recipes (wiki; a 2024 comment confirms all come from the one book):
- Jard's Peculiar Energy Source
- Sky Golem
- Pierre
- Rascal-Bot
- the Advanced Refrigeration Unit
Comments of 2020 to 2025 leave the character level needed to use the journal unsettled: one player could not use it at level 14 in 2020, others learned it at level 10 in Chromie Time, at 20 and at 31.
The Sky Golem recipe asks 30 Jard's Peculiar Energy Source and 30 Living Steel, with a Blacksmith Hammer as its tool (Wowhead's tooltip, read 2026). A 2022 comment puts the daily need at 140 Ghost Iron Ore when the Living Steel is made from Ghost Iron as well, and a 2013 one puts the whole mount at 4,200 ore. Living Steel needs an alchemist; it and the ore can be gathered or made by other characters and handed to the engineer, but the energy source cannot.
Wowhead's tooltip for the finished mount shows no binding line, so the item can be handed on or sold on the auction house; that is a mention only, the route here is making it. Riding it asks no profession, only Apprentice Riding (tooltip).
Its special trick, picking herbs without dismounting, now carries the line 'limited to expansions before Dragonflight': players report being dismounted in the Dragon Isles, Khaz Algar and Midnight zones since patch 12.0, while it still works in Pandaria and the Broken Isles (comments of 2026).
Wowhead's Mists of Pandaria Classic page for the mount lists a 'Schematic: Sky Golem' (item 94880) that the live game's data does not have. Wowhead links its guide Mounts and Companions from Professions from the mount; it was not read, so no guide is listed. Added in patch 5.4.0; the recipe moved from Engineering (600) to Pandaria Engineering (75) in patch 8.0.1 (wiki).
Confidence in this entry: high. Looked up in 2026.
