How to get it

Reward of the achievement Glory of the Thundering Raider: 23 achievements in the Throne of Thunder. Eleven are the kills on Heroic difficulty of every boss but Lei Shen (Jin'rokh the Breaker, Horridon, the Council of Elders, Tortos, Megaera, Ji-Kun, Durumu the Forgotten, Primordius, Dark Animus, Iron Qon and the Twin Consorts); the other twelve are one special achievement on each of the twelve bosses, on Normal or Heroic. Two of those take several kills in different weeks: Head Case three of Megaera and A Complete Circuit four of Lei Shen. The reward item is Reins of the Armored Skyscreamer.

Inside Throne of Thunder, a raid (Heroic for the eleven boss kills; Normal or Heroic for the twelve special achievements (10 or 25 player, not Raid Finder))

Time there about 1 h 15 min a visit

Guide Wowhead: Thunderstruck! Guide to Glory of the Thundering Raider

Before you go

  • Isle of Thunder opened, which makes the portal appear: Thunder Calls and The Storm Gathers, from Vereesa Windrunner at the Alliance camp or Scout Captain Elsia at the Horde camp, both outside the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes (Alliance 49.7, 68.7; Horde 50.6, 73.4) · about 0.5 h
  • Four clears of the raid by one character in four different weeks: A Complete Circuit takes four kills of Lei Shen, each after a different conduit was disabled first, and Head Case three kills of Megaera, each leaving a different head uncut. The first clear, on Normal, is also what lets a character that has never finished the raid set it to Heroic; one later clear on Heroic gives the eleven Heroic kills. The fourth clear is the visit counted on site · about 3.75 h over 3 weeks
  • The nine special achievements that a single clear can cover, on Normal or Heroic: Lightning Overload (Jin'rokh the Breaker), Cretaceous Collector (Horridon), Cage Match (Council of Elders), One-Up (Tortos), Soft Hands (Ji-Kun), You Said Crossing the Streams Was Bad (Durumu the Forgotten), Genetically Unmodified Organism (Primordius), Can't Touch This (Iron Qon) and From Dusk 'til Dawn (Twin Consorts). Several ask for the boss to be kept alive until something has happened; one missed on a boss that then dies waits for that boss to be alive again · about 2 h
  • Ritualist Who?: all 24 named Dark Ritualists of the Dark Animus chamber killed. Six stand there on a visit, drawn at random; progress is shared by the whole account · about 1 h

In all: about 7.3 h of play, spread over 3 weeks, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources

The place given above is the raid's entrance, from the game's own table (the wiki has 63.7, 32.2). By the wiki the way to it runs through the sewer grate at Bleak Hollow (51, 47), which teleports into the inner courtyard, and the isle allows ground mounts only (as found for the Clutch of Ji-Kun). The time on the spot is an estimate for one clear of the twelve bosses. How the reward is delivered (mail or bags) was not found.

The 23 criteria are the same in Wowhead's tooltip and on the wiki, and the tooltip marks the meta-achievement's progress as account-wide. The eleven Heroic kills are every boss but Lei Shen; Heroic: Lei Shen and Heroic: Ra-den are not part of it (Wowhead's guide). A 2021 reply to a Wowhead comment says a character has to clear the raid on Normal once before it can be set to Heroic; nothing else read confirms or denies it.

The twelve special achievements, each as the guide, the comments or Wowhead's tooltips describe it:

  • Lightning Overload (Jin'rokh the Breaker): make two Focused Lightning orbs collide; the boss need not die
  • Cretaceous Collector: Horridon killed without killing a Zandalari Dinomancer
  • Cage Match (Council of Elders): every player and all four bosses stay inside the ring
  • One-Up (Tortos): five Whirl Turtles hit with one kicked shell, then the kill
  • Head Case (Megaera): 'without cutting off a head of the following types: Flaming, Venomous, Frozen', one type left alone on each of three kills
  • Soft Hands: Ji-Kun killed 'with the Golden Egg still intact'
  • You Said Crossing the Streams Was Bad (Durumu the Forgotten): reveal the orange, green and purple fog beasts, one in each of three Light Spectrum phases; the credit comes during the fight
  • Genetically Unmodified Organism: Primordius killed without any player taking a harmful mutation
  • Ritualist Who?: the chamber before Dark Animus, see below
  • Can't Touch This (Iron Qon): never be touched by Burning Cinders, Storm Cloud, Rushing Winds, Frozen Blood or Frozen Solid!; it is personal and need not be done in one run
  • From Dusk 'til Dawn (Twin Consorts): kill Lu'lin first
  • A Complete Circuit (Lei Shen): 'after disabling each of the four Conduits first', one on each of four kills; the conduit he is charging when he is pulled is the one disabled: Static Shock north, Overcharge south, Diffusion Chain east, Bouncing Bolt west

Weeks: Wowhead's tooltips for Head Case and A Complete Circuit carry no account-wide mark, while the meta-achievement's and Ritualist Who?'s do, so the four Lei Shen kills are counted as one character's, a week apart: 22 days from the first to the fourth. Whether Normal and Heroic, or the two raid sizes, have separate weekly lockouts was not established (nor for the Clutch of Ji-Kun); if they do, the weeks shrink.

No step was found that by its own mechanics takes several players at the same moment, so no number of players is set. Two looked likely.

On Durumu's achievement the guide has the two players marked by the red and the blue ray stand together on a white puff of smoke, but comments of 2020 to 2025 describe both rays following a lone player, who has to spot the white patch as each Light Spectrum begins and stand on it. They do it on Normal (on Heroic the phase is cut short), use the Instance Achievement Tracker addon to confirm each beast, and warn that Durumu must not die before the third. A bug that hid the beasts in August 2024 was reported fixed within weeks; a 2025 comment has the boss dying unexplained.

On Soft Hands the carrier breaks the egg by casting a spell, using an ability, taking damage or falling (the guide; a 2018 Blizzard forum thread), so Ji-Kun has to die to something else while the egg is held. Comments on the meta-achievement speak of damage-over-time effects (2017), pets (2018) or a second player (2016), and a 2019 one could not catch the egg at all. What works for a given character was not judged.

Ritualist Who?: with six of 24 names drawn at random a visit, a given name turns up one visit in four, and seeing all 24 takes 13 or 14 visits on average (worked out, not from a source). On getting new names:

  • a 2013 comment and a 2014 reply: running out, resetting the instance and running back in reshuffles them, within the limit of ten resets an hour
  • the guide: waiting about 12 hours for them to reset
  • a 2017 reply: Heroic raid IDs make the reset hard; it advises Normal

If the reshuffle no longer works, this achievement and not Lei Shen sets the length: 13 or 14 weekly visits on one character, fewer with several characters since progress is account-wide.

Wowhead's guide is a player's guide (plowsterz, written for patch 6.2.3, last updated 2018) with every achievement and a way to do it for a group at level 100; it is the only full walk-through found. wow.gg's guide (2026) calls most of the achievements by names that do not exist, counts Lei Shen among the Heroic kills and gives 40-60 minutes for everything in one raid ID, which the four Lei Shen kills rule out; it is not linked and its time not used. An Icy Veins forum guide that turned up in a search was not read.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
