How to get it

Reward of the quest A Mountain of Giant Dinosaur Bones: hand 9,999 Giant Dinosaur Bones to Ku'ma, the Bone Collector, in his cave on the west side of the Isle of Giants, north of Kun-Lai Summit. The bones drop from every dinosaur on the isle, a fixed handful from each kill, so the quest is a matter of circling the island until the count is reached.

Time there about 2 min a visit

Guide wow.gg: Bone-White Primal Raptor Mount Guide

Before you go

  • 9,999 Giant Dinosaur Bones from the isle's dinosaurs: 35-45 from a Primal Devilsaur, 18-22 from a Primal Direhorn, 15-17 from a Pterrorwing Skyscreamer, 11-13 from a Young Primal Devilsaur, 7-9 from a Primal Direhorn Hatchling, 1-2 from a Zandalari Dinomancer · about 3 h

In all: about 3 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Ku'ma, bone cave on the Isle of Giants
Isle of Giants · 32.6, 54.6
/way Isle of Giants 32.6 54.6
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 7.5 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Jade Forest*
  2. Fly to Vale of Eternal Blossoms
  3. Ride the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 5.2 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Jade Forest*
  2. Ride the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

The isle is a no-fly zone (wiki, wow.gg). Fly north from the Kun-Lai coast until the Misty Shores dismount the character, then swim; the flight masters on the southern beach (Beeble's Wreck for the Alliance, Bozzle's Wreck for the Horde) make later visits direct. The wiki knows of no quest or other requirement for reaching it.

Ku'ma's coordinates are Wowhead's tooltip for Ku'ma (NPC 70022: points from 32.4, 54.4 to 33.0, 53.4) and wow.gg's 32.6, 54.6; the wiki has 32.8, 53.9 and puts the cave's entrance at 28, 58.

The quest asks for level 35 (wiki) and gives the feat of strength I've Got 9999 Problems but a Bone-White Primal Raptor Ain't One along with the reins. The bones stack to 999, so 9,999 take 11 bag slots (wiki).

A kill gives every member of a party its full count of bones (wow.gg, a 2018 Wowhead comment). The time depends mostly on how many other players are working the island, since the dinosaurs have to respawn: a loop of the island takes about as long as the respawn (a 2020 Wowhead comment). Oondasta's consolation bag, the Shiny Pile of Refuse, can also hold bones (wiki).

Since patch 6.0.2 the bones no longer bind and can be sold on the auction house or mailed (wiki), which several commenters point out; the time given is for collecting them.

Ku'ma's smaller bone quests give other things: 999 bones for the Spectral Porcupette pet, and dailies for 1, 10 and 100 (wiki; a Wowhead search excerpt has nine for the second). A 2023 Wowhead comment claims the 999-bone quest showed this mount as its reward; no other source says so and it is taken to be a mistake. The newest comment on Wowhead's page for the live game is from 2023.

During WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria in 2024 mounts of this island were also sold for Bronze (see the Cobalt Primordial Direhorn); that ended with the event and was not looked into for this mount.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
