How to get it

Rare drop from Nalak, the Storm Lord, the world boss that hovers at the Foot of Lei Shen on the Isle of Thunder, outside the Throne of Thunder. The isle is reached through the portal at the faction camp beside the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes (Alliance 49.7, 68.7; Horde 50.6, 73.4).

Chance 0.33% once a week, so about 303 tries on average — Wowhead: 165 mounts in 49,516 recorded loots of Nalak (0.33%, read 2026-10-11; its tooltip shows the same 0.33%). The count is pooled over all years and Wowhead does not date it; a Blizzard hotfix of 16 November 2022 'greatly increased' the drop chance without giving a figure (wiki), so today's chance is probably higher. The Rarity addon uses 1 in 100

Time there about 10 min a visit

Before you go

  • Isle of Thunder opened, which makes the portal appear: Thunder Calls and The Storm Gathers, from Vereesa Windrunner at the Alliance camp or Scout Captain Elsia at the Horde camp, both outside the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes · about 0.5 h

In all: about 0.5 h of play, starting from nothing.

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

The wiki has Nalak at 60.3, 37.4, the Rarity addon at 60.5, 37.3. He floats above the ground until attacked: 2023 and 2024 commenters say an attack from range is needed to bring him down, and that players whose abilities do not reach lose the tag to quicker ones.

There is one chance per character each week: Nalak can be killed again and again but gives loot once a week (a 2016 Wowhead comment with 211 votes; the addon tracks it by a weekly quest flag, 32518). Two 2024 comments say patch 10.2.7 made it daily; a 2025 reply says the game's raid information shows a week, and weekly is what is recorded here.

About 300 kills are expected at Wowhead's 0.33%, about 100 at the 1% the Rarity addon assumes since the 2022 increase. Nalak respawns about 15 minutes after he dies (comments of 2021 to 2024: 10 to 20 minutes, 14 minutes, exactly 15), so a visit can include that wait; the time on the spot is an estimate. Wowhead's figures are from its page for Nalak in the live game.

A Mogu Rune of Fate gives a bonus roll with another chance at the mount (comments; the Rarity addon marks it so), but a 2025 comment found the Timeless Isle vendor no longer selling the runes, and where to get them now was not looked up.

Reaching him: 2013 comments say no personal progress on the isle is needed beyond the first scenario that lets a character off the boat (The Storm Gathers), the realm-wide stages being long finished. The wiki's route to the Throne of Thunder, whose door (63.7, 32.2) is beside him, goes north-east through the Diremoor and, left at the Emperor's Gate, to the sewer grate at Bleak Hollow (51, 47), which leads into the inner courtyard. Whether a character that has done none of the isle's own story can ride straight through the Emperor's Gate today was not established. The isle is its own map and allows ground mounts only (wiki).

The wiki lists two more sources that are not routes counted here: the Black Market Auction House, and Hemet Nesingwary XVII during WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria in 2024, for 38,500 Bronze (wow.gg says 30,000), which ended with the event. wow.gg's page for this mount (updated 2026) gives only 'about 0.3%' and a respawn of 15 minutes to an hour; it is not linked.

The item binds when picked up; riding it has not needed the Cloud Serpent Riding skill since patch 6.0.2 (wiki).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
