How to get it

Reward of the quest They Grow Up So Fast from Rivern Frostwind, who stands on top of Frostsaber Rock in the north of Winterspring. He first asks for Get Them While They're Young (gather 8 Frostsaber Cubs from the dens around the rock), then hands over a Winterspring Cub. The cub gives one daily quest a day, each paying one Winterspring Cub Whisker. Rivern trades 20 whiskers, 20 Runecloth, 20 Rugged Leather and 80 gold for the mount.

Notes and sources

Alliance only; the Horde's counterpart is the Venomhide Ravasaur. It takes three weeks at the least, about 20 short visits.

Rivern stands on top of the rock and is reached from the air ('fly above the tiger', a 2026 comment). Wowhead's tooltip has him at 46.4-46.6, 17.6 and a 2020 comment gives /way 46.64, 17.69; the wiki's 50, 10 for him is from the old Winterspring map.

The two mounts are linked. A 2013 Wowhead comment (rated 56) says an account that earns the Frostsaber on an Alliance character finds the Venomhide Ravasaur in its collection for Horde characters; replies of 2021 and 2024 confirm it, and a 2026 comment advises looking for 'Winterspring Frostsaber' in the journal before starting.

Reports of more than one whisker a day, none of them checked: a different realm's cub offers a different daily, so hopping realms or joining a cross-realm group gave up to four a day (comments of 2015, confirmed for patch 8.0 in 2018), and a 2025 comment got a second daily by entering a dungeon with the cub out. Whether the 20 days must be consecutive was not read; the notes for the Venomhide Ravasaur say that for the Horde's chain they need not be.

A second way exists: Rivern also sells the reins to a character Exalted with the Wintersaber Trainers (Wowhead's sold-by list has 100 gold; comments of 2024 paid 80 with the Exalted discount). It is not quicker today: each cub daily pays 1,500 reputation (wiki), so Exalted from Neutral is 28 dailies against the quest's 20, and the quest itself pays 42,999 reputation on top. The 2024 comments got there with the Commendation of the Wintersaber Trainers (500 reputation each, 50 Timewarped Badges from Bobadormu in Tanaris), an item of the 20th-anniversary celebration that the wiki lists as removed; it is not a route now.

Wowhead's quest data gives level 15 for the quest and the wiki level 17 for the reins. The latest reports read are 'still attainable' (2023) and the comments of 2024 to 2026; the wiki's pages (edited in 2026) list no removal.

Guides: no retail guide of Wowhead's own was found. Its A Month in the Maelstrom, which the item page lists, does not mention this mount, and wow.gg has no page for it; the wiki's quest page is linked for the chain. Only one of the four dailies' pages was read (A Cub's Cravings). In a browser, Wowhead's item page jumps to the Classic version, where the mount is still a reputation grind.

Confidence in this entry: high. Looked up in 2026.
