How to get it

Rare drop from Huolon, a rare elite cloud serpent that appears above the Firewalkers' Path on the Timeless Isle and flies north along the Blazing Way. He comes back about 20 minutes after each kill, cannot be attacked for the first minute after he appears, and can be looted on every kill, so one character can kill him again and again.

Chance 0.89% per try, so about 112 tries on average — Wowhead (retail page for Huolon, read 2026-10-11): 681 reins in 76,296 recorded loots, 0.89%, the same figure as the item's tooltip. The counts are per looting player and go back to 2013. No lockout, by players' reports of 2024 and 2025: he respawns 20 minutes after a kill and is looted each time

  2. Ride the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 8.4 min of travel

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Huolon appears to the left of the end of the first bridge on the way to Ordos, at about 65.4, 57.9, and flies north; a 2024 player waits at 72.4, 40.1, where he becomes attackable. The place given above is one of the points of Wowhead's tooltip for him (65.0-68.6, 57.0-59.8 around the spawn, others along the route up to 74.4, 43.6); the wiki has 67, 59, 'above the Firewalkers' Path', and notes a hotfix of 2014 that moved his spawn point to the ground.

He appears with a shield (Chronostabilizing on the wiki) and cannot be attacked for about the first minute (comments from 2023 on; a 2024 one: a buff of one minute).

About 112 kills are expected at 0.89%; at 20 minutes a spawn that is some 37 hours of waiting on one character.

For this mount Huolon is not a once-a-day rare: he comes back 20 minutes after each kill (Wowhead comments of 2024 and 2025; older ones speak of 30 to 60 minutes, and wow.gg's page still says 15 minutes to an hour), and players loot him every time. One reports loot from each kill of a day (2024), one got the mount on a kill that was not the character's first that day (2025), and others count 60 to 70 kills a day over four characters and 287 kills in five days. The wiki's page for him carries a script that tests a daily flag (quest 33311, 'looted today'); what that flag still limits was not established, and the lockout is set to none on the strength of the comments.

A fault several players describe from 2024 into 2025: he hangs still at his spawn point and stays 'out of range' after the shield ends, while for the server he is flying his route. Logging out and in again puts him right; a /reload does not.

The wiki calls the isle's rares no-tap, for either faction; a 2025 commenter all the same raced Horde players for the kill, and several lost him to someone who killed him in one blow.

Getting there (wiki): fly east-south-east from the south-eastern tip of the Jade Forest over the sea, or use the one-use Curious Bronze Timepiece that Chromie gives with Journey to the Timeless Isle, after A Flash of Bronze..., which starts in the faction's shrine in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. There is a flight point at the landing. The wiki files the isle under no-fly zones, and a 2024 commenter describes chasing Huolon on foot, so the last stretch is taken as ridden; the notes for the two vendors at the isle's Celestial Court have it the other way, and it was not tested.

Cloud Serpent Riding has not been needed to use the mount since patch 6.0.2 (wiki), whatever older pages say. The reins bind when picked up. The wiki lists two other sources that are not ways of earning it today: the Black Market, and a vendor of the Pandaria Remix event of 2024, which is over.

No guide worth linking was found: wow.gg's page for this mount is thin and confuses it with another cloud serpent, and Wowhead's Timeless Isle guide turned up only in its Mists of Pandaria Classic edition. The detail above is from the comments on Huolon's own Wowhead page for the live game.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
