Comes out of a Rattling Iron Cage, which the four champions of Hellfire Citadel in Tanaan Jungle can drop: Terrorfist, Deathtalon, Vengeance and Doomroller. Each can be looted once a day per character. A cage always holds one of three mounts, this one about a third of the time.
Chance 11.1% once a day, so about 9 tries on average — Worked out, not read as such. Wowhead's page for the Rattling Iron Cage, as this guide's Armored Razorback record (622) read it on 2026-10-11, records the cage in 9,412 of 105,234 loots of the four champions, 8.9% a kill (Deathtalon 1,997 in 22,532, Terrorfist 2,209 in 26,225, Vengeance 2,428 in 28,228, Doomroller 2,778 in 28,249), and this mount in 3,545 of 10,874 opened cages (32.6%). That is 2.9% a kill; 11.1% is the chance for one day's kills of all four (1 minus the product of the four misses, each champion at its own rate). The counts are pooled over all years. wow.gg cites about 10% for the cage (record 622)

- Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Ashran*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
About 34 kills are expected, some 9 days if all four are killed every day. The counts, and what follows about the champions, are taken from the notes for the other two mounts of the cage, the Armored Razorback and the Warsong Direfang, which read Wowhead's cage page and comments, the wiki and wow.gg; the cage page was not read again for this mount.
Where they stand:
- Doomroller 46.8, 52.6 at the entrance of Hellfire Citadel
- Terrorfist 14.4, 61.2 near Rangari Refuge
- Vengeance 32, 74 at the Temple of Sha'naar
- Deathtalon about 23.2, 39.8 in the Ruins of Kra'nak
The slow part is finding the champions alive. A player who timed 59 visits to a freshly created copy of the zone saw them appear 60 to 115 minutes after it was created (a 2024 Wowhead comment); other comments say 1-2 hours between spawns, wow.gg says 1-3, and a copy of the zone that stands empty for about 15 minutes is closed and starts over. The 90 minutes on the spot are an estimate for waiting out all four in a fresh copy; when they happen to be up, the round is 10-15 minutes (wow.gg). A spawn is marked on the world map and announced with a zone-wide yell.
The daily limit is per character and per champion, so more characters mean more tries a day. A cage can hold a mount already owned (Wowhead comments complain of duplicates as late as 2026): the Warsong Direfang (3,680 of the 10,874 cages) and the Armored Razorback (3,649) are the other two.
What a character must have done to see the champions was not established: wow.gg says access to Draenor is enough, with no garrison needed and level 40 to be able to attack them, while a 2021 Wowhead comment suspected a link to that character's own progress in Tanaan.
The journal names the four creatures and leaves out the cage; Wowhead's tooltip for the mount carries no drop chance for the same reason. The wiki's page for the mount (edited 2025) says it has a 33% chance to be in a cage and that the cages 'uncommonly drop' from the four; the item asks for level 17 and binds when picked up.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
