How to get it

Dropped every time by Nakk the Thunderer, a rare elite clefthoof in the north of Nagrand on Draenor. He appears at one of five spots, 2 to 8 hours after his body last vanished, and everyone who takes part in the kill gets the mount, up to 40 players at once.

Time there about 10 min a visit

Guide Wowhead: Through the Years: A Guide to Notable Open-World Rare Mounts

Before you go

  • Nakk being up. If he is at none of the five spots, stay in Nagrand: when the zone has stood empty of players for 15 minutes it unloads and his timer starts afresh, so a character left waiting there meets him 2 to 8 hours after the zone woke · about 5 h

In all: about 5 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Nakk the Thunderer, northern Nagrand (5 spots: 62.8, 15.4; 62.4, 17.0 and 64.6, 19.6 by the Throne of the Elements; 55.0, 35.0; 50.0, 34.4)
Nagrand · 62.8, 15.4
/way Nagrand 62.8 15.4
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 3.9 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Ashran*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 3.9 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Ashran*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Wowhead's recorded loot has the mount in 1,464 of 1,464 loots of Nakk the Thunderer, and its tooltip for the item says 100%; the wiki says the same.

The five spots are the waypoints of Wowhead's guide to open-world rare mounts (updated 2025):

  • 62.8, 15.4
  • 62.4, 17.0
  • 64.6, 19.6
  • 55.0, 35.0
  • 50.0, 34.4

Wowhead's map pins for him fall on the same places (62.4-63.0, 14.8-18.0; 64.4, 20.0; 54.4-55.2, 35.4-35.8; 50.0-50.2, 34.2-34.8) and on one more, 60.2-60.8, 31.8-32.0, which no list has as a spot of its own. Comments place 55, 35 north of the Riverside Post flight path (2014; again in 2025) and the north-eastern spots by the Throne of the Elements (2025). The time on the spot is one round of the five spots; the hours of waiting are given separately.

The sources disagree on the timer:

  • Wowhead's guide: 2-8 hours from the moment the body despawns for all six such rares of Draenor, with only one Nakk up on a realm at a time; a 2024 comment says the older, much-repeated figures are out of date and that the guide's hold, and the comments since 2023 all fall inside 2-8 hours
  • wow.gg's guide (2026): still 20-36 hours
  • a 2014 comment: about 27

The reset when the zone is empty holds for every Draenor zone but Shadowmoon Valley (guide): a rare that is up when it happens is gone too, and camping in the zone prevents it. The NPC Time addon shows how long a creature has been alive, which tells how long the zone has been awake (comments of 2024 and 2025). In 2025 he once stayed up for 37 minutes before a kill.

No quest is needed to see him (a 2024 comment). A hunter who tames him instead of killing him gets the mount by mail (comments of 2023 and 2026). No daily lockout is mentioned anywhere, and the mount is learned once, so it does not matter. He was level 100 when new and is level 40 on Wowhead now (245,350 health).

The item binds when picked up. wow.gg's guide is not linked because of its timer.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
