How to get it

Rare drop from Blackhand, the tenth and last boss of Blackrock Foundry in Gorgrond, on Mythic difficulty only. An account that has done the raid's skip quest, Sigil of the Black Hand (Mythic), can open his doors from the entrance without killing the other bosses.

Chance 2.23% once a week, so about 45 tries on average — Wowhead: 2,730 mounts in 122,246 recorded loots of Blackhand (tooltip and item page, read 2026-10-10). That count is pooled over every difficulty; on Mythic alone, the only one where it drops, Wowhead has the same 2,730 in 73,599 loots (3.71%). Both reach back to when the raid was current and the mount dropped far more often, so today's chance is lower: players reckon about 1%, which Blizzard never published, and Wowhead's client data for 1-16 July 2025, during Collector's Bounty with its announced +5%, showed 4.25% (margin 0.70%) on Mythic. Blizzard's hotfix of 11 March 2020 'slightly increased' the drop rate without giving a figure

  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 2.6 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Ashran*

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

One try a week per character; a 2023 comment says the Mythic lockout here cannot be shared or extended. The 40 minutes are an estimate for a clear of all ten bosses; with the skip a visit is about 10 minutes.

The skip (Wowhead's quest tooltip and comments): Sigil of the Black Hand (Mythic), quest 37031, is picked up after the Iron Maidens from an NPC in a small room behind crates just south of their room. It asks for 4 Embers of the Mountain, 4 Hearts of Stone and 4 Slivers of Iron, one from the last boss of each wing per Mythic kill (The Blast Furnace, Kromog, The Iron Maidens). After that a stone to the left of the bridge inside the entrance opens Blackhand's doors. It used to take four or five weekly clears on one character; 2025 comments say the finished skip is now account-wide and that the quest's progress is shared between an account's characters, one of them finishing it in a day with five characters.

Without the skip the other nine bosses come first; that was not confirmed on the wiki, whose page was cut short, but is what the skip is described as sparing. Wings (wiki):

  • Slagworks: Gruul, Oregorger, The Blast Furnace
  • The Black Forge: Hans'gar and Franzok, Flamebender Ka'graz, Kromog
  • Iron Assembly: Beastlord Darmac, Operator Thogar, The Iron Maidens
  • then Blackhand's Crucible

Reported kill counts: 403, about 800 and 934 before the 2020 hotfix and 615 for one player who got it after; since 2022: 5, 14, 19, 43, more than 50 and 126. About 45 kills would be expected at 2.23% and 100 at 1%; the recorded figure should be read with the note on the drop chance. Wowhead also records the mount in the Unclaimed Black Market Container (2 in 405), which is not a way of earning it.

The entrance is from the game's own table; the wiki puts the meeting stone at 51.7, 29.0 and an Ogre Waygate at 58.0, 34.4, which a garrison building can open a portal to (a 2020 comment). No guide is linked: it is one boss.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
