Look it up on WowheadHow to get it
Build a Stables in the garrison, lasso a Young Rocktusk at Rooter's Pass in Gorgrond for the quest Besting a Boar, then do 10 daily Boar Training quests, each a kill made from the back of the boar-in-training; the last, Boar Training: The Garn, rewards the mount. Besting a Boar comes from Keegan Firebeard (Alliance) or Tormak the Scarred (Horde) at the Stables.
Time there about 10 min a visit
Before you go
- Garrison founded, raised to tier 2, Stables built on a large plot (150 gold and 150 Garrison Resources, 1-hour build timer) · about 2.5 h
- Besting a Boar: use the Boar Lasso on a Young Rocktusk at Rooter's Pass in Gorgrond (around 43-47, 36-44, north of Gronn Canyon and east of the Skysea Point flight point) and keep up with it until it is tamed · about 0.5 h
- 10 daily Boar Training quests after the capture: Riplash in Gorgrond, Gezz'ran in Talador, Bulbapore in the Spires of Arak, then seven targets in Nagrand ending with the garn Maimclaw · about 1.75 h over 11 days
In all: about 4.8 h of play, spread over 11 days, 150 gold, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Shadowmoon Valley 29.6 16 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Ashran*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way Frostfire Ridge 48.7 64.9 - Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Ashran*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight

Notes and sources
About 10 minutes a day for 11 days: the capture on the first day (the quest giver says the boar needs to rest before more training, wiki), then one training quest a day. The time on the quests was not measured.
The wiki says the chain 'begins with Besting a Boar and ends with Boar Training: The Garn' and takes a Stables of level 1 or higher. Wowhead's guide (updated 2018) says each quest is a kill made riding the mount-in-training, called with the whistle the quest provides.
Targets and spots from the guide:
- Riplash: 50.2, 38.0 in Gorgrond
- Gezz'ran: 31.6, 54.6 in Talador
- Bulbapore: 66.6, 75.6 in Spires of Arak
- Gorian Beast-Lasher: 79.2, 71.6 in Nagrand
- Darkwing Roc: 68.6, 20.6 in Nagrand
- Moth of Wrath: 43.0, 69.1 in Nagrand
- Thundercall: 90.6, 23.6 in Nagrand
- Ironbore: 53.2, 77.6 in Nagrand
- Karak the Great Hunter: 69, 34.3 in Nagrand
- Maimclaw: 63, 80 in Nagrand
All six animals follow the same order and only start at different points (a 2014 guide comment gives the order as far as Ironbore), so the chains can run side by side from one Stables; the Trained Riverwallow shares nine of these ten targets. The mount stays if the Stables are later replaced (guide). A 2016 guide comment says that when no daily appears, walking into the Stables plot and logging out and in again brings it up.
The wiki gives the quests as level 15-40 as of 2026; a 2015 comment listed level 93 for the capture, from before levels were squished. Who hands out the training quests was not established; the wiki names Keegan Firebeard and Tormak the Scarred for the capture only (for the riverbeast, the notes for the Trained Riverwallow have Fanny Firebeard and Sage Paluna).
The places given above are the garrisons' own spots on the zone map, as for this guide's other garrison mounts, not the Stables' plot, which the player chooses. The guide gives the level 1 cost only as '150 and 150'; the wiki says Garrison Resources and gold.
The item binds when picked up and asks for level 17 and Apprentice Riding (wiki, Wowhead tooltip).
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
