Rare drop from Gul'dan, the last boss of The Nighthold in Suramar, on Mythic difficulty only. The Fiendish Hellfire Core that teaches the mount comes from The Demon Within, the last phase of the fight, which only Mythic has.
Chance 1% once a week, so about 100 tries on average — About 1% a kill is what guides give for the years since Legion (wow.gg, updated August 2026, naming no source); Blizzard never published it. Wowhead's own count is not used for the figure because it mixes two eras: 3,093 cores in 38,537 recorded Mythic loots of The Demon Within (8.03%; item page read 2026-10-10, the tooltip gives no figure), per looting player, and it includes the Legion years, when the core was a certain drop for a full raid of 20 (a GM's answer quoted in a Wowhead comment of April 2018: the chance rose with every player up to 100% at 20). Wowhead's client data for 1-16 July 2025, during Collector's Bounty with its announced +5%, showed 2.98% (margin 0.38%) on Mythic

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
One try a week per character: a Mythic raid has a single weekly lockout (wow.gg). About 100 kills are expected at 1%; players who post their counts on Wowhead since 2021 range from 4 and 8 to 47, 71, 89, 112, more than 160 and 518.
The 1% is the guides' figure, not a recorded one; Wowhead's count as it stands gives 8.03, with the caveat given with the drop.
There is a shortcut: the quest The Nighthold: Talisman of the Shal'dorei (4 Echoes of Time from Grand Magistrix Elisande on Mythic, from First Arcanist Thalyssra) opens a teleporter from the entrance to Elisande, the boss before Gul'dan (wiki). The 25 minutes on site are the middle of wow.gg's 20-35 minutes for all ten bosses at level 90; it gives 10-15 with the skip.
On Normal, Heroic and Mythic Gul'dan also drops the Living Infernal Core for the Felblaze Infernal, a different mount.
Other sources, none of them a route:
- the wiki says the core can rarely be listed on the Black Market Auction House
- Wowhead's data has it in 3 of 405 Unclaimed Black Market Containers
- Hemet Nesingwary XVII sold it for 100,000 Bronze during Legion Remix, which has ended (Wowhead still lists him)
A 2025 Wowhead comment reports the core dropping a second time for an account that already had the mount.
The entrance is from the game's own instance-entrance table; wow.gg's waypoint is 45.8, 64.5. The lowest level that may enter on Mythic was not established; the item asks for level 10 (wiki).
