Build a Stables in the garrison, lasso a Young Snarler in Nagrand for the quest Wrangling a Wolf, then do 7 daily Wolf Training quests, each a kill made from the back of the snarler-in-training; the last, Wolf Training: The Garn, rewards the mount. The quests come from Fanny Firebeard (Alliance) or Sage Paluna (Horde) at the Stables.

- Wrangling a Wolf: use the Wolf Lasso on a Young Snarler on top of Shadowfall Canyon, east of Oshu'gun in Nagrand (about 59.0, 61.0; the path up starts at 58.2, 64.8), and keep up with it as it jumps between the rock islands until it is tamed · about 0.5 h
- 7 daily Wolf Training quests after the capture, all in Nagrand: Cruel Ogres, Darkwing Roc, Moth of Wrath, Thundercall, Ironbore, Orc Hunters and last The Garn, the garn Maimclaw · about 1.25 h over 8 days
In all: about 4.3 h of play, spread over 8 days, 150 gold, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources
About 10 minutes a day for 8 days: the capture on the first day, then one training quest a day. The wolf has the shortest chain of the six trained mounts, 7 quests, like the elekk (Wowhead's guide, updated 2018). Whether the first training quest can be taken on the day of the capture was not established; the Horde quest giver says the wolf 'will need to rest for some time'.
The guide says not to ride the Nagrand outpost mounts (the Telaari Talbuk) during the capture, because the rope breaks.
Targets and spots from the guide, all in Nagrand:
- Gorian Beast-Lasher: 79.2, 71.6 (Cruel Ogres)
- Darkwing Roc: 68.6, 20.6
- Moth of Wrath: 43.0, 69.1
- Thundercall: 90.6, 23.6
- Ironbore: 53.2, 77.6
- Karak the Great Hunter: 69, 34.3 (Orc Hunters)
- Maimclaw: 63, 80 (The Garn)
The order of the first six was not settled: the guide and a 2015 Wowhead comment list them as above, while the wiki gives Wolf Training: Darkwing Roc as the quest that follows the capture.
The Stables are shared with the other five trained mounts and the two achievement mounts, so the chains can run side by side, and the mount stays if the Stables are later replaced. Comments of 2016 report days when the Stables offered no quest and say that logging out and back in while standing in the Stables brings it back.
The same 2015 comment gave level 99 for the capture and 100 for the later quests; the wiki now shows them as level 38-40 quests, so that predates level scaling.
The places given above are the garrisons' own spots on the zone map, as for this guide's other garrison mounts, not the Stables' plot, which the player chooses. The guide gives the level 1 cost only as '150 and 150'; it is read here as gold and Garrison Resources, as for the Trained Riverwallow.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
