How to get it

Dropped every time by Poundfist, a rare elite gronnling in Gorgrond on Draenor. He appears at one of five spots, 2 to 8 hours after his body last vanished, and everyone who takes part in the kill gets the mount, up to 40 players at once.

Time there about 10 min a visit

Guide Wowhead: Through the Years: A Guide to Notable Open-World Rare Mounts

Before you go

  • Poundfist being up. If he is at none of the five spots, stay in Gorgrond: when the zone has stood empty of players for 15 minutes it unloads and his timer starts afresh, so a character left waiting there meets him 2 to 8 hours after the zone woke. No alert reaches across the zone, so the five spots have to be flown round every few minutes · about 5 h

In all: about 5 h of play, starting from nothing.

Poundfist, Gorgrond (5 spots: 45.4, 47.5; 47.0, 54.1; 43.2, 55.5; 51.4, 43.1; 42.0, 25.0 far to the north)
Gorgrond · 45.4, 47.5
/way Gorgrond 45.4 47.5
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 2.8 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Ashran*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 2.6 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Ashran*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

Wowhead's recorded loot has the mount in 2,560 of 2,564 loots (its tooltip says 99.84%), and its guide says 100%.

The five spots are the same in Wowhead's tooltip for Poundfist and in its guide; the wiki names only Gronn Canyon and says he 'has an extremely long respawn rate' without a figure. The time on the spot is one round of the five spots and the kill; the hours of waiting are counted in the requirements.

Timer: the guide to open-world rare mounts (updated 2025) puts all six such rares of Draenor on 2-8 hours from the moment the body despawns and says only one of each is up on a realm at a time. The much-repeated older figure, 48-96 hours counted from a realm restart, is from the best-rated comments of 2014; comments of 2024 and 2026 call it out of date, and comments since 2019 report kills within hours of a weekly reset.

One player in 2025 found him about 20 minutes after entering the zone, which does not fit the 2-hour minimum; the same player thought some older rares now come back after 15 minutes.

The reset when a zone stands empty holds for every Draenor zone but Shadowmoon Valley (the guide); a rare that is up when it happens is gone too, and the guide adds that camping in the zone keeps it from unloading.

A 2026 comment says the RareScanner addon does not announce him from across the zone. The NPC Time addon shows how long a creature has been alive, which tells how long the zone has been awake (2024 comment). No daily lockout is mentioned anywhere, and the mount is learned once, so it does not matter.

He was level 100 when new and is level 40 on Wowhead now; in Chromie Time he scales to the character (comments of 2021 and 2022).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
