How to get it

Reward of the quest Volpin the Elusive in Suramar. The chain starts from a Torn Invitation, a rare find in the Glimmering Treasure Chest paid at the end of every Withered Army Training (the scenario First Arcanist Thalyssra runs from Shal'Aran, open every three days) and in the Nightfallen Hoard of the Nightfallen emissary. The invitation gives A "Noble" Event, four 12-hour class hall missions one after another, and then Volpin the Elusive: save the fox from the hunters and he becomes the mount.

Chance 1.98% once a week, so about 51 tries on average — Wowhead: Torn Invitation 2,754 times in 139,400 opened Glimmering Treasure Chests (object 252452, all recorded loots). The page's own headline for that chest is 50 in 1,715 (2.92%), a subset Wowhead does not explain. Two more chests of the same name are listed at 73 in 12,636 (0.58%) and 31 in 60,647 (0.05%), see notes. The Nightfallen Hoard has no recorded count. The scenario opens every three days; this field has no such value and weekly is used

Guide Wowhead: Comprehensive Suramar Guide

Before you go

  • Suramar's opening story, Nightfallen But Not Forgotten (from Khadgar's Discovery in Dalaran to Shal'Aran and the chains that follow there), then Building an Army from Thalyssra: the first Withered Army Training, free of charge, which opens the repeatable one · about 3 h
  • For each attempt, Ancient Mana to pay Thalyssra for the withered: 400 for the smallest army of 8, up to 2,000 for 20. A new character can hold only 300, so the cap has to be raised first (Suramar quests and one-off items) · about 0.25 h
  • A Legion class hall with its mission table and champions to send; the last two missions have three slots · about 1.5 h
  • A "Noble" Event: four class hall missions in a row, 12 hours and 250 Order Resources each (On the Hunt, Securing an Invitation, All Dressed Up, Just in Time), then the quest handed in at the class hall · about 0.25 h over 2 days
  • Volpin the Elusive: kill Herald Gevedaun at the Feathermane Hunting Grounds (17.4, 31.6), walk up to the fox under a big tree north of Ambervale (30.0, 35.6), kill the four hunters that appear and calm him · about 0.25 h

In all: about 5.3 h of play, spread over 2 days, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources

The chance given is for the invitation; once it drops the mount is certain. About 50 full chests are expected at 1.98%, one every three days on each character that has the scenario open.

Which chest: Wowhead lists three objects named Glimmering Treasure Chest for the invitation, with very different rates. Its Suramar guide (Voxxel, updated 2025) says the guaranteed final chest has its low chance for the rare things when 'reaching its full size (around 400 points)'. The three objects are taken here to be that final chest at three sizes, the most-looted one the full size, which nothing read states outright. Comments of 2016 and 2018 report the invitation from a run ended at once with no score, which fits the 0.05% chest. So the 30 minutes on site are an estimate for a run to about 400 points.

The other source is the Nightfallen Hoard, paid by the emissary quest The Nightfallen (four world quests in Suramar on the days that emissary is up; wiki, Wowhead's guide, comments of 2016 and 2025). The wiki's page for the invitation calls the Hoard the paragon cache, against its own page for the Hoard, and Wowhead has no count for it. Comments of 2016 and 2017 describe months of both without a drop.

Classes: the first quest is handed in at the class hall and its missions run on the class hall's table. The wiki lists a turn-in for twelve classes and none for Evokers, and a 2025 Wowhead comment says an Evoker can do nothing with the invitation. The mount itself is shared by the account once learned.

Missions: the wiki has On the Hunt and Securing an Invitation with one slot, All Dressed Up and Just in Time with three, level 110 by the old numbering; a 2017 comment had the first one at 24 hours. Whether a mission can fail to bring its item was not established. A 2025 reply warns that a player who abandoned the quest lost the invitation and had to find another.

No Nightfallen standing is asked for (2017 comment: barely Honored).

During Legion Remix (comments of 2025 to 2026) Hemet Nesingwary XVII sold the invitation for 40,000 Bronze with the mission items included; that event is over, though Wowhead still lists the vendor.

Thalyssra's spot is Wowhead's (36.8, 46.6); Volpin's and the herald's are the wiki's.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
