How to get it

Reward of Direbeak Reunion, the last of fifteen quests that the Direbeak Hatchling battle pet gives when it is summoned, one quest a day. The pet comes first: while the world quest Direbeak Swarm! is up at Gull Rock in Stormheim, kill the Direbeak Matriarch there and feed the Orphaned Direbeak that then appears a Pungent Vrykul Gamalost. The chain ends back at the same spot, where the injured matriarch is healed and joins you as the mount.

Time there about 10 min a visit

Guide Wowhead: Falcosaur! - Obtaining Falcosaur Mounts, Pets, Toys

Before you go

  • Pet battles learned, and level 25 battle pets to fight beside the hatchling: two Flying, two Mechanical and two Humanoid · about 3 h
  • The Direbeak Hatchling: wait for the world quest Direbeak Swarm! in Stormheim, kill the Direbeak Matriarch at Gull Rock (79, 76), then feed the Orphaned Direbeak (79.8, 69.6; a path at 77, 71 leads up to graves from which you drop down to it) one Pungent Vrykul Gamalost, sold in Stormheim at 71.6, 60.6 and in Dalaran. The matriarch is only there while the world quest is active · about 0.3 h
  • The hatchling's fifteen quests, one a day, each done with the hatchling summoned: Raising Your Direbeak (level it to 25); The Smell of Dwarves (visit the inn in Ironforge) or The Smell of Tauren (the inn in Thunder Bluff); Hunting Lesson: Rose Taipan (defeat 3 in pet battles in Stormheim); Allies in Stormheim (5 world quests there); Direbeak Team Up (3 pet battle world quests); Dire Prey (1 rare elite world quest); Hunting Lesson: Tiny Apparition (3); The Unkindly Faction (3 PvP world quests, the Warden Tower assaults among them); Direbeak Bonding (buy it Fake Teeth in Dalaran); Hunting Lesson: Golden Eaglet (3, with two Flying pets); Teamwork Lesson: Fenryr; Hunting Lesson: Stormstruck Beaver (3, with two Mechanical pets); Teamwork Lesson: Krosus; Direbeak Team Rumble (3 pet battle world quests with two Humanoid pets); Direbeak Reunion (back at Gull Rock, heal the Injured Direbeak Matriarch) · about 5 h over 2 weeks
  • Teamwork Lesson: Fenryr, the eleventh quest: defeat Fenryr in the dungeon Halls of Valor with the hatchling out (any difficulty) · about 0.4 h
  • Teamwork Lesson: Krosus, the thirteenth quest: defeat Krosus in the raid The Nighthold with the hatchling out · about 0.5 h

In all: about 9.2 h of play, spread over 2 weeks, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Orphaned Direbeak, Gull Rock, Stormheim (the pet is adopted here and the last quest ends here)
Stormheim · 79.8, 69.6
/way Stormheim 79.8 69.6
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 3 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Azsuna*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 3 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Azsuna*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

The orphan is at 79.8, 69.6 and the matriarch at 79, 76, by a Wowhead comment; Wowhead's guide agrees with 79, 69 and 78, 76. The orphan sometimes fails to appear unless the character got the killing blow on the matriarch (2016 comment); she comes back in 5 to 7 minutes. The wiki's text for Direbeak Reunion names Alluvanon's Delta in Azsuna, which looks carried over from the Bloodgazer's quest, since the same page puts the matriarch at Gull Rock.

The wiki's page for the mount calls it a fourteen-day chain; the guide and the wiki's own list have fifteen quests, one a day from the daily reset, so fifteen days at the least. Comments of 2017 and 2022 say the wait can be skipped: after handing a quest in on one character, another character that summons the pet is offered the next one the same day, except for the last quest. The guide's author asked a game master whether that is allowed and got no clear answer.

The pet has to be out when each world quest completes; it vanishes on death, on flying and on jumping from a tower. If the pet journal is full the feeding fails and the pet is lost for that character. The guide's tips:

  • battle-stones can do the levelling of the first quest
  • Legion invasion world quests do not count for the fourth
  • world bosses and dungeon world quests do not count for the sixth
  • the world quest need not be up for the last

The PvP step: comments on the quest's page tell of Warden Tower world quests counting, some of them twice or three times over, as late as 2024, and of one player that year for whom that did not work. Whether War Mode has to be on to see those world quests was not established; a 2018 comment, just after patch 8.0, said the hatchlings themselves could only be seen with War Mode on.

Wowhead's guide was last changed in 2021 and the newest comments read are from 2022 to 2024, so nothing here was confirmed for Midnight; the quests are still in Wowhead's data at level 45 (Direbeak Reunion is quest 44988).

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
