How to get it

Sold by Conjurer Margoss for 100 Drowned Mana to a character who is Best Friend with him. He lives on Margoss's Retreat, a small floating island just north-west of Dalaran above the Broken Isles, reached on a flying mount, by gliding from the broken wall in the north of Dalaran, or with an Emblem of Margoss fished up in Dalaran's Underbelly. Drowned Mana is fished from the pond on his island and is both the price and, handed to him at 50 reputation apiece, the way to Best Friend.

Time there about 2 min a visit

Guides Wowhead: Legion Fishing Guide · wow.gg: Brinedeep Bottom-Feeder

Before you go

  • Best Friend with Conjurer Margoss: 42,000 reputation, from his quest Drowned Mana (250) and about 835 Drowned Mana handed in at 50 each, all fished from the pond on his island. No more than 100 can be carried, so they are handed in along the way · about 10.5 h
  • 100 Drowned Mana for the mount itself, fished from the same pond after Best Friend is reached · about 1.25 h

In all: about 11.8 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Conjurer Margoss, Margoss's Retreat (floating island just north-west of Dalaran, off the edge of Dalaran's own map)
Broken Isles · 44.6, 62
/way Broken Isles 44.6 62
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1.6 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Azsuna*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.5 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Azsuna*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

The journal's 'Conjurer Margoss - Honored' means the friendship rank Best Friend. The wiki's item page, Wowhead's guide and every comment that bought the mount say Best Friend, the sixth and last rank (Stranger, Pal or Acquaintance, Buddy, Friend, Good Friend, Best Friend, 8,400 apart); Honored is the sixth standing on the ordinary reputation scale, which is probably where the journal's word comes from.

Margoss is on an island that is not on Dalaran's map. Wowhead's tooltip gives 44.6, 62.0 for him (NPC 108825) on a zone it numbers 8392; set against the game's map tables those figures only make sense as Broken Isles continent coordinates, which put him about 400 yards north-west of Dalaran's centre, just beyond the city's northern edge (on Dalaran's own map about 21, -11, above the top edge). That matches the wiki's 'floating island just northwest of Dalaran'. The place given above is therefore on the Broken Isles map; it was worked out, not read, and not checked in the game.

Ways there:

  • a flying mount (wiki, comments); wow.gg (updated 2026) says flying there needs Broken Isles Pathfinder, Part Two, and whether that is still asked was not checked
  • gliding from the pet battle area through the broken wall in the north of Dalaran with a Goblin Glider Kit or a class glide (Wowhead's guide; wow.gg puts the ledge at Dalaran 30.8, 32.7)
  • an Emblem of Margoss, fished from the Swirling Whorls in the Underbelly and used up by the teleport (guide, 2016 comment)

Margoss teleports visitors back to Dalaran.

The fishing: any Fishing skill will do (2018 comment, wow.gg). The guide gives a catch rate of 25-30% for Drowned Mana and 1% for a Mark of Aquaos. A Mark thrown into the pond calls Aquaos the Unleashed, and once he is killed every cast by anyone at the pond brings one or two Drowned Mana for about two and a half minutes.

That is why the reports differ so much: raid groups of 2016 chaining Marks did the whole thing in 3 to 5 hours, while comments of 2021 and 2024 say groups are no longer to be found. The latest player reports read are of 2024 and 2026.

Level: a 2026 comment says a Mark cannot be used below level 39; the item asks for level 35 (wiki; a 2023 comment says the purchase is locked at 35), while wow.gg says level 10.

A reputation buff shortens the first requirement (the Darkmoon Faire's 10% takes the hand-ins from 835 to 759, by the wiki), not the 100 for the mount. Patch 12.1.5 (13 October 2026) shares Legion reputations across the Warband (wiki's patch page); whether Margoss's friendship is among them is not said.

The mount only works in water and gives no water breathing (comments). Guides: Wowhead's Legion Fishing Guide (updated 2025) has a section on Margoss with his wares, the totals and the catch rates; wow.gg's is written for this mount.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
