Long-Forgotten Hippogryph

Look it up on WowheadHow to get it
Click five Ephemeral Crystals in Azsuna before anyone else does. Five pink crystals are up in the zone at a time, at five of about a hundred known spots (caves, hidden corners, under water); each one clicked leaves an unseen mark that lasts 8 hours from the first click and is lost on death. The fifth click puts the Reins of the Long-Forgotten Hippogryph in the bags, removes all five crystals for everyone and tells the zone 'You hear a faint caw in the distance and then silence...'. A new set appears 2 to 8 hours later.
Time there about 45 min a visit

Before you go
- All five crystals of one set found and clicked before someone else claims it, within 8 hours of the first click and without dying: sweeps of the known spawn points, repeated on a later visit when no set is up · about 3 h
In all: about 3 h of play, starting from nothing.
Getting there
/way Azsuna 48 50.9 - Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Azsuna*
- Fly the rest of the way
- Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Azsuna*
- Fly the rest of the way
/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight
line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.
Notes and sources
The journal says only 'Zone: Azsuna'. Nothing is left to chance once five crystals are clicked, which is why this is counted as certain; what is uncertain is finding a set that nobody has finished. Only one player gets the mount from a set, and if the bags are full the reins come by mail (wiki).
From Wowhead's guide (by the Secret Finding Discord, updated 2026): the crystals come back 2 to 8 hours after a set is claimed, usually within 4 to 6, never straight after a server reset; at the start of Legion the timer was 12 hours to several days. Only five are up at once, all at the same time; each of the five has its own object id, and five different ones must be clicked. They are a little larger than a character, load in before trees and rocks and can be seen from up to 400 yards.
War Mode on and off are separate phases with their own crystals, and so is Chromie Time for a character below level 70 (Wowhead's guide), which gives up to four places to look on one realm. Addons that mark the spawn points: HandyNotes with its Long-Forgotten Hippogryph plugin, or TomTom with LFH Waypoints (Wowhead's guide, Warcraft Secrets).
Wowhead's guide advises:
- noting each clicked crystal's coordinates in case of a death
- having a passenger dismount before clicking
- if a crystal will not click or the fifth gives nothing, dying and clicking them all again
Sources disagree on three points:
- Spawn points: Wowhead's guide has 99 confirmed; the wiki (edited 2026) says more than 200 and names four areas with none (Faronaar, Isle of the Watchers, Temple of a Thousand Lights, Mak'rana).
- What ends the 8 hours early: the wiki lists death, leaving Azsuna and a realm hop. Wowhead's guide says only death and the 8 hours do, not logging out or changing zones, and that the five clicks need not be on one realm: after being beaten, switching War Mode or realm and clicking crystals there can finish the set, except those that share an object id with ones already clicked.
- Riding: Wowhead's guide asks for Artisan Riding, the wiki says Apprentice Riding since patch 9.0.2; the item asks for level 10 (wiki).
The place given above is only a waypoint in the middle of the zone, the north entrance of Oceanus Cove from Wowhead's guide. The cove has three spawn points on its own map (50.9, 75.9; 84.0, 81.7; 45.6, 30.3) and other entrances at 49.0, 58.7 and 50.7, 58.9; Leyhollow Cave (entrance 47.9, 24.8) has two more. The time on site is one sweep of the zone and is an estimate.
The reins were also sold for 20,000 Bronze during Legion Remix (wiki, wow.gg), an event that has ended. wow.gg's page (updated 2026) is short and calls the crystals 'Ethereal'; it is not linked. The item binds when picked up, by Wowhead's tooltip as stored in 2026; the item page itself was not read.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
