How to get it

Made with Leatherworking. The Elderhorn Riding Harness takes 50 Stonehide Leather, 25 Blood of Sargeras and 10 Felhide, and its pattern is the reward of Mounting Made Easy, the last quest of the Legion Leatherworking line from Namha Moonwater in Dalaran: a long mounted chase after a white elderhorn across Stormheim. The harness binds when picked up and asks for Legion Leatherworking 100 to use, so the leatherworker who makes it is the one who learns the mount; after that it is on the whole account.

Before you go

  • Leatherworking on this character with Legion Leatherworking raised to 100: it is learned with Namha Moonwater's first quest, Skin Deep, and raised by making Legion leather and mail from Stonehide Leather and Stormscale, the skins of Broken Isles beasts · about 3 h
  • The Legion Leatherworking quest line up to Mounting Made Easy: some 40 quests from Namha Moonwater and others through Dalaran, Stormheim, Val'sharah, Highmountain, Azsuna and Suramar, one of them inside the Eye of Azshara dungeon. Players disagree on how much of it is still asked · about 5 h
  • Mounting Made Easy itself: touch the Great Northern Elderhorn at 62.5, 23.8 in Stormheim while mounted and follow it on its tether round the zone, past several checkpoints, to the end; then back to Namha Moonwater for the pattern · about 0.5 h
  • The materials: 50 Stonehide Leather (skinned from the furred beasts of the Broken Isles), 10 Felhide (skinned from Broken Isles demons once the Felhide Sample quest is done, or from world quests) and 25 Blood of Sargeras, which binds when picked up: Legion world quests, the bosses of Legion dungeons on Heroic and Mythic, now and then from skinning, mining or herbalism in the Broken Isles, and 5 for 5,000 Order Resources from a class hall's vendor · about 3 h

In all: about 11.5 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Namha Moonwater, leatherworking trainer, Legendary Leathers, Dalaran (Broken Isles)
Dalaran · 35.2, 29.2
/way Dalaran 35.2 29.2
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 1.6 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Azsuna*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.6 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Azsuna*
  2. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

The journal says only 'Profession: Leatherworking'. The item that teaches the mount is the Elderhorn Riding Harness. It binds when picked up (wiki, Wowhead's tooltip), so it cannot be made for someone else, and it is made anywhere once the pattern is known: the place given above is the trainer who gives the quest and takes it back. Coordinates for Namha Moonwater are from the map on Wowhead's quest page (NPC 93523, 35.2, 29.2); the wiki has her in the Magus Commerce Exchange.

What is still asked for the pattern is the open question. The wiki puts Mounting Made Easy at the end of thirteen steps of quests (from Skin Deep and Over Your Head to Demon Flesh and Fel Tanning), and Wowhead's guide, updated 2018, numbers it 42 of 42 with a zone and a video for each quest. The two recent comments quoted in the requirements above disagree on whether the line must be done first. The quest requires level 45 (the wiki's page for it, and Wowhead).

The chase: the top comment on Wowhead's quest page (2016) starts it at 62.5, 23.8 and describes waterfalls, misleading turns and packs of enemies, with Fighter Chow and a Stonehide Leather Barding to get through. The wiki says the start is at the edge of Storm's Reach, an area with free-for-all PvP on a schedule.

Comments of 2024 to 2026 say flying and steady flight now make the route easy, but the tether vanishes at random and the elderhorn despawns about a minute later. Keeping on after the tether drops still counts toward the next checkpoint; it took four or five restarts of about five minutes each (comments of 2024 and 2025; one of 2026 says it still happens).

Who can ride it:

  • Warcraft Mounts: it can only be crafted and learned by leatherworkers and is then usable by the other characters of the account
  • Wowhead's tooltip for the mount spell: no profession requirement
  • Wowhead's guide (2018): players with the skill 'can craft and use' it

The harness needs level 27 and Apprentice Riding by the wiki, level 10 by Warcraft Mounts.

Blood of Sargeras: the wiki marks the class hall vendor's 5 for 5,000 Order Resources as a hotfix of June 2017 'in testing', and Illnea Bloodthorn in Dalaran trades the other way only (blood for materials). Stonehide Leather and Felhide do not bind and can be bought from other players; that is noted here only in passing.

A pattern that was learned and then lost with the profession comes back from Forgotten Patterns of the Broken Isles, sold by Ranid Glowergold in Dalaran (wiki). wow.gg's guide to this mount (updated 2026) is not linked: it names no quest but the last, and has Blood of Sargeras bought from other players, which a bound item cannot be.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
