Sold as Midnight Black Reins of Dark Portent by Zan Shivsproket in the Hall of Shadows, the rogue class hall under Dalaran on the Broken Isles, for 1,000 Order Resources. He offers it to a rogue who already has the Shadowblade's Murderous Omen, the class mount from the quest Hiding In Plain Sight.
Time there about 2 min a visit

- 1,000 Order Resources (Legion class hall currency: looted from mobs and treasure chests on the Broken Isles and paid by class campaign quests) · about 0.5 h
In all: about 15.5 h of play, spread over 3 days, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources
Rogues only. The journal gives the vendor and no cost: Wowhead's sold-by list for the item (as read in 2026) has Zan Shivsproket (npc 121282) alone, at 1,000 of currency 1220, Order Resources, and the wiki's pages for the mount and for him (both edited 2025) agree. He sells the two other colours, Mephitic Reins and Bloody Reins of Dark Portent, on the same terms (wiki), so the three together are 3,000 Order Resources.
Wowhead's tooltip shows Apprentice Riding and no other requirement; the wiki has the item at level 45. What the first mount takes is given for the Shadowblade's Murderous Omen, which counts Breaching the Tomb as needed once on the account. A 2024 comment says a rogue halfway through Breaching the Tomb could pick up the mount quest and then buy all three; that was not tested.
Where he stands: the wiki puts him in the Hall of Shadows. Wowhead's tooltip gave twelve positions on the hall's own map around 41.9, 80.2, and since the game's map table calls that map Dalaran, like the city above it, the coordinates given are that spot carried over to the city map (39.6, 68.9), the point of Dalaran he stands under. This was worked out for the Shadowblade's Crimson Omen and not looked up again.
The hall cannot be walked into from the rest of the Underbelly, and only rogues get in. Its ways in, by the wiki:
- Glorious Goods in the Eventide, the main one
- One More Glass
- Tanks for Everything in the Magus Commerce Exchange
No artifact trait or specialization is asked any more: until patch 8.0.1 the item wanted every trait of one artifact and the buyer standing in that specialization (comments of 2017 and early 2018), and a later 2018 comment reports buying all three colours in Outlaw for 1,000 Order Resources each with only the class mount learned.
Which specialization this colour belonged to is told two ways: the wiki names The Kingslayers (Assassination), while Wowhead's commenters of 2017 name the Fangs of the Devourer (Subtlety), one of them correcting Wowhead's guide on the point. It no longer matters for buying.
Wowhead's guide (updated 2025) gives the requirements for every class and says the extra colours cost 1,000 Order Resources once the class mount is unlocked; for the rogue it says only that the other three colours are bought from him, and it does not walk through the rogue's quests. How fast Order Resources come in today was not measured. The item binds when picked up; a flying mount, added in patch 7.2.0.
Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
