How to get it

Three rare elite panthara on Argus drop the Fel-Spotted Egg: Naroua in Krokuun, Sabuul in Eredath and Varga in the Antoran Wastes. Five days after it is looted the egg becomes a Cracked Fel-Spotted Egg, which may hold this mount, one of three other mana rays, a pet or a worthless yolk. One visit is a round of the three rares, each lootable once a day.

Chance 5.6% once a day, so about 18 tries on average — Worked out from Wowhead's recorded counts, read 2026-10-11. Egg drops: Naroua 20,450 in 52,045 loots (39.3%), Sabuul 11,677 in 27,374 (42.7%), Varga 10,930 in 29,163 (37.5%). Cracked eggs: 2,003 Scintillating Mana Rays in 42,010 opened (4.77%). That is 1.8-2.0% a rare, and one round of all three is 1 - (1 - 0.0187)(1 - 0.0203)(1 - 0.0179) = 5.6%. The wiki gives 7% for the mount in a cracked egg without saying where from; with that figure the round would be 8.1%, which is what this guide's other mana ray records carry

Guide Wowhead: Comprehensive Argus Guide

Before you go

  • Argus campaign far enough for the Vindicaar to reach Krokuun, the Antoran Wastes and Eredath: the Broken Shore assault (once for the account), The Hand of Fate from Khadgar in Dalaran, the first chapter (38 quests in Wowhead's guide; its 35th sets the beacon in the Antoran Wastes) and the Eredath chapter after it · about 4 h

In all: about 4 h of play, starting from nothing.

Notes and sources

A round gives 1.2 eggs on average and about one cracked egg in 21 holds this mount, so around 18 daily rounds are expected, and each egg pays out five days after it drops. The 15 minutes for a round is an estimate.

Wowhead's count of what 42,010 cracked eggs held:

  • Aged Yolk 13,838 (32.9%)
  • Fel-Afflicted Skyfin 10,943 (26.0%)
  • Docile Skyfin 9,416 (22.4%)
  • Vibrant Mana Ray 2,049 (4.9%)
  • Darkspore Mana Ray 2,024 (4.8%)
  • Scintillating Mana Ray 2,003 (4.8%)
  • Felglow Mana Ray 1,737 (4.1%)

The seven add up to the total, so an egg always gives exactly one of them. The wiki's table has 30 / 21 / 21 and 7% for each mount. The pages for the three other mana rays (the Darkspore, Vibrant and Felglow Mana Ray) were worked out with the wiki's 7% and say 8.1% a round; Wowhead's own count makes it nearer 5.6%, and they have not been changed.

Whether an egg can give a mount the character already knows is disputed, and not confirmed either way:

  • comments on the egg of 2021 and a 2021 reply say mounts never repeat (which would raise the chance for a collector who has some of the other three)
  • another 2021 reply got 'mount duplicates several times'
  • a 2024 one had three of each pet while still missing a mount

Eggs are not unique (best-rated comments of 2017; a 2024 reply had eight in the bags), but each rare gives at most one a day (comments of 2022 and 2024). Kaara the Pale in Eredath dropped eggs when patch 7.3 came out and was taken off within weeks (a 2018 reply); Wowhead's loot table shows only the three.

The rares are easier to find on days when one is a world quest target (comments of 2020, 2021 and 2024). Otherwise, by Wowhead's Argus guide, Argus rares come up in a region-wide 4-hour cycle and are locked for a character until the next day's reset once killed, so a round can come up short on a given visit.

Where the rares stand, by comments of 2022 and 2024, with Wowhead's tooltip ranges as read for the Vibrant Mana Ray in brackets:

  • Naroua, Krokuun 70.5, 33.7 (70.2-72.0, 32.4-34.8)
  • Sabuul, Eredath 44.2, 49.8 (43.0-45.2, 46.8-50.8)
  • Varga, Antoran Wastes 64.3, 48.2 (64.4-65.0, 49.4-51.6)

The place given above is the point the other three mana rays use for Naroua, so all four share it. Eredath was called Mac'Aree until patch 9.1.5. Argus has no flying.

The mount's own item binds when picked up and asks for level 45 since patch 9.0.1 (wiki). Wowhead's Argus guide (updated 2025) was read in 2026 for the Vibrant Mana Ray and not opened again for this one.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
