How to get it

Made by combining two crafted parts: a Monelite Reinforced Chassis (Kul Tiran / Zandalari Blacksmithing) and a Super-Charged Engine (Kul Tiran / Zandalari Engineering). Both recipes, Plans: Monelite Reinforced Chassis and Schematic: Super-Charged Engine, are rare drops from K.U.-J.0., the second boss of the Workshop half of Operation: Mechagon, on Heroic or Mythic. Each recipe binds when picked up, so the blacksmith and the engineer have to loot their own; the finished parts do not bind, so the two can be different characters, and whoever holds both parts puts them together.

Chance 0.69% per try, so about 145 tries on average — Wowhead's tooltip, for the scarcer of the two recipes: Plans: Monelite Reinforced Chassis 0.69%, 128 in 18,672 recorded loots of K.U.-J.0. (Heroic and Mythic pooled). Schematic: Super-Charged Engine is 0.82%, 153 in 18,672. Both are needed, each on a character of its profession. The counts take in characters who cannot use the recipe, so a blacksmith's or an engineer's own chance is probably higher

Time there about 15 min a visit

Before you go

  • A blacksmith with Kul Tiran / Zandalari Blacksmithing at 160 or more, the skill Plans: Monelite Reinforced Chassis asks for · about 3 h
  • An engineer with Kul Tiran / Zandalari Engineering at 160 or more, the skill Schematic: Super-Charged Engine asks for; the same character or a second one · about 3 h
  • For the chassis: 75 Monelite Ore, 65 Storm Silver Ore and 30 Platinum Ore (mined in Kul Tiras and Zandalar) and 20 Elemental Flux (blacksmithing supply vendors) · about 1.5 h
  • For the engine: 100 Monelite Ore, 50 Storm Silver Ore, 25 Insulated Wiring and 12 Chemical Blasting Caps (both made by engineers) and 8 Expulsom (from scrapping Battle for Azeroth gear) · about 2 h

In all: about 9.5 h of play, starting from nothing.

Getting there

Operation: Mechagon entrance, Rustbolt
Mechagon Island · 73.6, 36
/way Mechagon Island 73.6 36
From Stormwind (Alliance) about 2.7 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Wizard's Sanctum to Boralus*
  2. Fly the rest of the way
From Orgrimmar (Horde) about 1.9 min of travel
  1. Take the portal from Pathfinder's Den to Zuldazar*
  2. Take the sub from Zuldazar to Mechagon*
  3. Fly the rest of the way

/way is for the TomTom addon. Travel times are estimates: flying at 55 yards a second in a straight line and 30 seconds for a portal. A star marks a portal that needs a quest or other unlock done first.

Notes and sources

The plans and the schematic drop from K.U.-J.0., the second boss of the Workshop half, after Tussle Tonks, and the sixth of the whole dungeon (wiki); the 15 minutes on the spot are an estimate for reaching and killing it. A hunter who tames K.U.-J.0. gets no loot and cannot go on in that run (comments).

Heroic can be repeated the same day with loot each time: comments of 2025 say it no longer has a lockout, and that is what is counted here; replies of 2026 confirm the Heroic drop ('did a few normals but it did not drop'). Mythic is once a week (wow.gg). The recipes dropped on Mythic only at first, and on Heroic too since patch 8.3 (January 2020).

How Heroic is entered today was not established. The wiki says the Group Finder offers the Workshop half on Heroic, while the entrance in Rustbolt gives the whole dungeon. wow.gg's Russian guide (2026) says to queue for Mechagon Workshop in the Dungeon Finder and that the recipes drop on any difficulty, Normal included, which Wowhead's counts do not show.

Wowhead's drops list for K.U.-J.0. has the plans in 74 of 11,079 Heroic loots and 54 of 7,593 Mythic loots, and the schematic in 80 of 11,079 and 73 of 7,593. It lists no Normal or Mythic+ counts. Kills reported in Wowhead comments before the plans dropped: 1, 3, 21, 25, 27, 30, about 55 (2025), 80-90 (2025) and 173; the schematic after 1, 2, 6-7 and 10.

A 2020 comment says only a blacksmith can get the plans, which would make the recorded figure too low for a blacksmith. Others say the skill level does not matter for the drop, and one got the plans on a character that had not yet learned Battle for Azeroth Blacksmithing.

The dungeon was back in its old form by August 2025 after its turn in the Mythic+ rotation; during that turn a 2025 comment saw its bosses drop almost nothing.

The entrance coordinates are wow.gg's, the only source found (its guide to the Aerial Unit R-21/X, updated 2026); that guide says the island's introduction quests are not needed to enter and the level needed is 10. The game's own data has no entrance for this dungeon.

Materials are from Wowhead's tooltips for the two recipes. The wiki's page for the engine says Fused Wiring where the tooltip and the wiki's schematic page say Insulated Wiring, and the wiki's page for the plans shows level 120 where the tooltip shows level 10.

Wowhead shows no binding on the Xiwyllag ATV item or on the two parts, and the tooltip data stored for this guide has no binding line for the item either; comments from 2019 to 2024 report the finished mount and the parts being sold on the auction house.

Kram Kelada in Bondo's Yard repaints the mount with paint bottles found on the island; the colours are per character. It carries one rider and sinks in water (comments). Wowhead says 13% of profiles have it.

No English step-by-step guide to the craft was found: wow.gg's exists only in Russian, and Wowhead's Mechagon guides were not opened.

Confidence in this entry: medium. Looked up in 2026.
