For each expansion: the materials a good leveling guide uses, added up, and where a max-level character gets each one. The crafts themselves are in the guide, linked under each list.

Classic Alchemy 1–300 19 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 60 × Peacebloom
Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Tirisfal Glades Herbalism. Peacebloom and Silverleaf grow side by side all over the zone, so one flying loop fills both, and Brill has a herbalism trainer if you are just starting.
Gather One wide circle of the zone, Elwynn Forest Just as good: by the time a full circle brings you back to where you began, the first nodes have grown back.
Needs Herbalism; skill 1 is enough to pick it. Silverleaf shares the same spots, so farm the two together. Easy to buy, too.
  • 60 × Silverleaf
Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Tirisfal Glades Herbalism. Silverleaf and Peacebloom cover the zone together, so a single flying loop gathers both.
Gather One wide circle of the zone, Elwynn Forest Equally good: circle the whole forest and the nodes have respawned by the time you are back at the start.
Needs Herbalism; skill 1 is enough to pick it. Peacebloom grows in the same places, so gather both on the same loop. Easy to buy, too.
  • 113 × Briarthorn
Gather Herb loop, plus the Frozen Herbs on the Alterac peaks, Hillsbrad Foothills Herbalism. No zone has more Briarthorn and Mageroyal; the Frozen Herbs on top of the Alterac Mountains can hold either, or Bruiseweed.
Gather Herb loop of the coast, Darkshore The next best zone for both herbs, a little thinner than Hillsbrad.
Needs Herbalism. Mageroyal grows in the same zones, so pick both on one loop. Easy to buy, too.
  • 30 × Mageroyal
Gather Herb loop, plus the Frozen Herbs on the Alterac peaks, Hillsbrad Foothills Herbalism. The zone is packed with herbs, Mageroyal and Briarthorn above all, and the Frozen Herbs up in the Alterac Mountains may contain Mageroyal too.
Gather Herb loop of the coast, Darkshore Second choice: plenty of Mageroyal and Briarthorn, though not as many as in Hillsbrad.
Needs Herbalism. Briarthorn shares the same zones, so one loop gathers both. Easy to buy, too.
  • 35 × Bruiseweed
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Northern Stranglethorn Herbalism. More Bruiseweed grows here than anywhere else; look beside buildings and ruins and along the hillsides.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Ashenvale A good second zone, for when Stranglethorn is crowded with other herbalists.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Wetlands A decent third spot with a fair number of nodes.
Needs Herbalism. The Frozen Herbs on the Alterac peaks in Hillsbrad Foothills can also hold Bruiseweed. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather The flooded sea floor, Thousand Needles Herbalism. Most of the zone lies under water and the kelp covers the bottom; the Speedbarge quest Down in the Deeps gives a diving-helm buff that lets you breathe and run along the sea floor at mount speed.
Gather Darrowmere Lake, Western Plaguelands The lake is full of Stranglekelp; gather it while circling the shore for Liferoot.
Needs Herbalism. It only grows under water. The Speedbarge chain starts with The Grimtotem are Coming, from Kanati Greycloud in Thousand Needles or Caryssia Moonhunter in Feralas. Easy to buy, too.
  • 20 × Liferoot
Gather Darrowmere Lake shore, Western Plaguelands Herbalism. The best spot by far: fly round the edge of the lake and pick every herb, and take the Stranglekelp in the water too.
Gather Rivers and ponds, Eastern Plaguelands The runner-up, right next door, with Khadgar's Whisker and Sungrass on the same route.
Gather Rivers and ponds, Northern Stranglethorn Also a strong zone for Liferoot along its water.
Needs Herbalism. It grows beside water: lakes, rivers and ponds. Easy to buy, too.
  • 30 × Kingsblood
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Northern Stranglethorn Herbalism. The zone with the most Kingsblood; it favours flat open ground, fields and plains.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Western Plaguelands A fine second zone, with plenty of Khadgar's Whisker and Fadeleaf on the same loop.
Needs Herbalism. Easy to buy, too.
  • 30 × Goldthorn
Gather Alternating loops of the two zones, The Hinterlands and Arathi Highlands Herbalism. On a fast flier one zone runs dry before it respawns, so do a lap of one, cross through the tunnel between them and do a lap of the other; the first zone has grown back by then, and the circuit never stops.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Dustwallow Marsh Plenty of Goldthorn as well, but a flier finishes the lap quickly and then waits for respawns, so pick the other herbs as you go.
Needs Herbalism. Look on the tops of small hills.
  • Gather Herb loop of the zone, Northern Stranglethorn Herbalism. The most Wild Steelbloom of any zone, and the nodes sit fairly close together.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Ashenvale A good alternative; the nodes are further apart, which matters little when flying.
Needs Herbalism. It grows on steep slopes. Easy to buy, too.
  • 30 × Sungrass
Gather Flying loop round the zone's outer edge, Thousand Needles Herbalism. Sungrass is the commonest herb here, so a flier simply follows the rim of the map and picks it up.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Eastern Plaguelands Also good, though more of the nodes are Khadgar's Whisker; handy when you need both.
Needs Herbalism. It grows in open ground. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Herb loop of the zone, Eastern Plaguelands Herbalism. The easier route of the two best zones, with Sungrass and Liferoot along the way; it respawns fast enough that the northern part of the zone can be skipped.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Western Plaguelands Nearly as good, and the pick when you also want Kingsblood or Fadeleaf, which grow here in numbers.
Needs Herbalism. It grows next to trees and other plants. Easy to buy, too.
  • 10 × Blindweed
Gather Jademir Lake, then the other lakes and rivers, Feralas Herbalism. The only zone where you never wait for respawns: start with a lap of Jademir Lake in the north-west, then follow the zone's other waters while the lake grows back. 30 to 40 per lap of Jademir Lake.
Gather Lake and river banks, Western Plaguelands Good for a quick 10 to 20 if it is closer; it is picked clean in a minute and takes five to eight minutes to come back.
Needs Herbalism. It only grows right at the water's edge.
  • 40 × Gromsblood
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Felwood Herbalism. The best Gromsblood zone, and the same loop turns up plenty of Golden Sansam and Dreamfoil and the odd Purple Lotus.
Needs Herbalism. Blasted Lands and Desolace have a little too, but too few to be worth the trip. Easy to buy, too.
  • 40 × Sorrowmoss
Gather Zigzag loop of the zone, Swamp of Sorrows Herbalism. The one zone where Sorrowmoss grows, and it is everywhere there; the nodes are scattered, so zigzag across the swamp and take the Golden Sansam you pass as well.
Needs Herbalism. Easy to buy, too.
  • 15 × Dreamfoil
Gather Both phases of the zone, swapped with Zidormi, Blasted Lands Herbalism. Zidormi, near the road north to Swamp of Sorrows, switches you between today's Blasted Lands and the zone before the invasion; when one version is picked clean, swap to the other instead of waiting for respawns.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Felwood Dreamfoil comes up on the Felwood herb loop alongside Gromsblood and Golden Sansam.
Needs Herbalism. It grows in open ground. Silithus has it as well, but Blasted Lands is much better. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Zigzag loop of the zone, Swamp of Sorrows Herbalism. Sorrowmoss outnumbers it here, but no zone has more Golden Sansam; the nodes are spread out, so weave back and forth and pick both.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Felwood A good alternative that also yields Dreamfoil, Gromsblood and Purple Lotus.
Needs Herbalism. It grows close to trees and other objects. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Loop along the mountain edges, Winterspring Herbalism. So much grows here that no other zone is worth the trip; follow the foot of the mountains, and since it respawns quickly a short loop does as well as the whole zone. Icecap comes along on the same route.
Needs Herbalism. Easy to buy, too.
  • 10 × Icecap
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Winterspring Herbalism. The only zone with Icecap, and it is full of it, so bags fill quickly; keep near the mountains to pick up Mountain Silversage on the same loop.
Needs Herbalism. Easy to buy, too.

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 40 × Felweed
Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Blade's Edge Mountains Herbalism. The best Felweed zone: nearly every node is Felweed or Dreaming Glory, with a few Nightmare Vines, so one flying loop fills three of the Outland alchemy herbs.
Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Nagrand (Outland) Herbalism. Just as good: only Felweed and Dreaming Glory grow here, so no stop is wasted.
Needs Herbalism. Felweed grows in every Outland zone, so some comes with any Outland herb farm. Easy to buy, too.
  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • 14 × Golden Sansam
    • 14 × Dreamfoil
    • 14 × Mountain Silversage
    • Gather Zigzag loop of the zone, Swamp of Sorrows Herbalism. Sorrowmoss outnumbers it here, but no zone has more Golden Sansam; the nodes are spread out, so weave back and forth and pick both.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Felwood A good alternative that also yields Dreamfoil, Gromsblood and Purple Lotus.
Needs Herbalism. It grows close to trees and other objects. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather Both phases of the zone, swapped with Zidormi, Blasted Lands Herbalism.
  • 20 × Ragveil
Gather Herb loop of the eastern half, Zangarmarsh Herbalism. The marsh is so thick with herbs that a loop of its east side alone gives the most Ragveil; there is no need to cover the whole zone.
Needs Herbalism. A loop around the zone's edges is easier to fly but gives less, and other routes pass so much Glowcap that it crowds the minimap. Alchemy needs only 20. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Blade's Edge Mountains Herbalism. It grows beside and on top of mountains, and Blade's Edge has plenty along the easiest route to follow; Felweed fills the same loop.
Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Nagrand (Outland) Herbalism. Almost as good, with only Felweed growing beside it, though the route is harder to keep to.
Needs Herbalism. Alchemy needs 80, the most of any Outland herb, so farm it with the Felweed. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Herb loop through the open ground, Netherstorm Herbalism. The only zone it grows in. It comes back fast enough that a lap of part of the zone keeps you busy; fly the whole zone only when others are picking too.
Needs Herbalism. Picking it now and then gives one to three Motes of Mana as well. Alchemy needs only 10. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Herb loop of the whole valley, Shadowmoon Valley (Outland) Herbalism. Practically the only place to farm it: it grows in the open and tucked between rocks all over the valley.
Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Blade's Edge Mountains Herbalism. Only two or three nodes, but the same loop fills Felweed and Dreaming Glory, so pick it up on the way.
Needs Herbalism. Alchemy needs 40 and Enchanting 15, one for each Superior Wizard Oil. Easy to buy, too.

Wrath of the Lich King Alchemy 1–75 9 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Gather The snow-free parts of the zone, Zul'Drak Herbalism. Zul'Drak is close to the only place it grows, at the foot of walls and trees wherever the ground is clear of snow.
Gather Frozen Herbs, Dragonblight and Wintergrasp Frozen Herb nodes in these two zones give it now and then, but much more slowly than Zul'Drak.
Needs Herbalism; learn Northrend Herbalism (Dorothy Egan in Northrend's Dalaran teaches it) or you pick far less. Alchemy wants 24, for Icy Mana Potions and Potions of Nightmares. Easy to buy, too.
  • 26 × Tiger Lily
Gather Lakes and rivers of the whole zone, Grizzly Hills Herbalism. It grows beside water, and Grizzly Hills has the simplest loop: by the end of one lap the first nodes are back. Goldclover's best zone is the same, so one loop fills both.
Gather Rivers and lakes, Sholazar Basin Nearly as good, and the flights between the waters pass Adder's Tongue, which grows nowhere else.
Needs Herbalism; learn Northrend Herbalism (Dorothy Egan in Northrend's Dalaran teaches it) or you pick far less. Alchemy wants 26, for Elixirs of Mighty Strength. Easy to buy, too.
  • 60 × Goldclover
Gather Open fields of the whole zone, Grizzly Hills Herbalism. It grows in open ground without snow, and the Grizzly Hills loop is easy and long enough that the nodes are back when you finish. Tiger Lily's best zone is the same, so pick both.
Gather One loop of the zone, Howling Fjord Just as good. The guide's smaller loop already gives the nodes time to grow back; the whole zone is an option when others are picking there.
Needs Herbalism; learn Northrend Herbalism (Dorothy Egan in Northrend's Dalaran teaches it) or you pick far less. Alchemy wants 60, most of them for Elixirs of Mighty Agility and Runic Mana Potions. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather A short loop of the zone, Sholazar Basin Herbalism. The only zone it grows in, but it grows there in plenty and comes back in two or three minutes, so a short loop is enough.
Needs Herbalism; learn Northrend Herbalism (Dorothy Egan in Northrend's Dalaran teaches it) or you pick far less. Alchemy wants 24, for Elixirs of Mighty Agility. Tiger Lily grows by Sholazar's rivers too. Easy to buy, too.
  • 20 × Icethorn
Gather Herb loop of the zone, by air, The Storm Peaks Herbalism. The best zone, and Lichbloom grows in the same places, so one flying loop fills both.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Icecrown The place to go when someone else is already picking the Storm Peaks; the same two herbs grow here.
Needs Herbalism; learn Northrend Herbalism (Dorothy Egan in Northrend's Dalaran teaches it) or you pick far less. Alchemy wants 20, for Indestructible Potions. Easy to buy, too.
  • 165 × Lichbloom
Gather Herb loop of the zone, by air, The Storm Peaks Herbalism. The best zone, and Icethorn grows in the same places, so one flying loop fills both.
Alchemy wants 165: 60 for Runic Mana Potions and 105 for fifteen Flasks of Stoneblood, which also take Frost Lotus, an occasional extra from Northrend herbs (from game knowledge), so this loop gathers some of it. Easy to buy, too.
  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • 5 × Dark Jade, 5 × Huge Citrine, 5 × Eternal Fire
    • 5 × Bloodstone, 5 × Chalcedony, 5 × Eternal Air
    • Salvage Prospecting Cobalt Ore from Howling Fjord, Howling Fjord Jewelcrafters prospect five Cobalt Ore at a time, and each prospect can give any of the six uncommon Northrend gems: Bloodstone, Chalcedony, Dark Jade, Huge Citrine, Shadow Crystal and Sun Crystal. Howling Fjord is the best Cobalt zone.
Salvage Prospecting Saronite Ore from Icecrown, Icecrown Saronite Ore gives the same six gems, and more of the rare Northrend gems besides; Icecrown has an easy Saronite route.
Prospecting needs Northrend Jewelcrafting, and the ore needs Mining; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Which gems the two ores give is from game knowledge. Jewelcrafting needs 15, for Icy Prisms at 70 to 75, plus any colour for its first 35 cuts; Alchemy needs five only if it picks Transmute: Earthsiege Diamond over Skyflare.
Alchemy needs five only if it picks Transmute: Earthsiege Diamond, with Dark Jade and Eternal Fire; the other choice, Skyflare, takes none. Jewelcrafting can cut it among its first 35 gems of any colour.
    • Craft From your bags, Northrend Using ten Crystallized Fire turns them into one Eternal Fire; no profession is needed. Farm the Crystallized Fire in one of the two places below. From 10 × Crystallized Fire (Combine (no profession)).
Farm Halls of Lightning, The Storm Peaks Pull each room into one fight, loot, and move on; after the room before the second boss, step out, reset from your portrait and go again, up to ten times an hour. Slightly fewer Crystallized Fire than the cave below, but far less effort, and Crystallized Water drops here too.
Farm Frostfloe Deep, The Storm Peaks The guide's best spot for Crystallized Fire: this cave always has a few Wailing Winds standing in it, so there is never a wait.
Frozo the Renowned in Northrend's Dalaran (not the Broken Isles one) trades one Eternal Fire for one Frozen Orb, and the orbs cost 75 gold from Arcanist Ivrenne in the Silver Enclave (Alliance) or Magistrix Lambriesse in Sunreaver's Sanctuary (Horde). Leatherworking needs 50, for ten Trollwoven Girdles; Engineering two, for the Wormhole Generator: Northrend; Alchemy five only if it picks Transmute: Earthsiege Diamond. Easy to buy, too.
Jewelcrafting needs seven, for Bloodstone Bands at 20 to 25; Alchemy needs five only if it picks Transmute: Skyflare Diamond over Earthsiege.
Jewelcrafting needs 15, for Icy Prisms at 70 to 75; Alchemy needs five only if it picks Transmute: Skyflare Diamond over Earthsiege.
    • Craft From your bags, Northrend Using ten Crystallized Air turns them into one Eternal Air; no profession is needed. Farm the Crystallized Air in one of the two places below. From 10 × Crystallized Air (Combine (no profession)).
Farm Enraged Tempests, Borean Tundra The best source of Crystallized Air: a few of them are always up, so you can keep killing without a pause.
Farm Altar Wardens, Zul'Drak Spread far apart and slow to come back, but each one often drops three or four Crystallized Air.
Frozo the Renowned in Northrend's Dalaran (not the Broken Isles one) trades one Eternal Air for one Frozen Orb, and the orbs cost 75 gold from Arcanist Ivrenne in the Silver Enclave (Alliance) or Magistrix Lambriesse in Sunreaver's Sanctuary (Horde). Engineering needs two, for the Wormhole Generator: Northrend; Alchemy five only if it picks Transmute: Skyflare Diamond. Blacksmithing's three are really its 30 Crystallized Air for Deadly Saronite Dirks, so keep that Crystallized Air as it drops instead of combining it. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Lichbloom and Icethorn loop, by air, The Storm Peaks Herbalism. It comes now and then as an extra when picking Northrend herbs, so gather it along the way on the Storm Peaks loop for the Lichbloom that the same flasks need.
Gather Lichbloom and Icethorn loop, Icecrown The same herbs and the same chance of an extra Frost Lotus, for when the Storm Peaks are crowded.
Needs Herbalism; learn Northrend Herbalism (Dorothy Egan in Northrend's Dalaran teaches it). That it is an occasional extra from Northrend herbs is from game knowledge; none of the guides says where it comes from. Alchemy needs 15, one for each Flask of Stoneblood, which also takes seven Lichbloom. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Thornvine Creepers, Howling Fjord The best source of Crystallized Life, and they come back so quickly that there is no waiting between pulls.
Buy Frozo the Renowned, Dalaran, Northrend He trades an Eternal Life for one Frozen Orb, and using an Eternal Life splits it into ten Crystallized Life, so five orbs cover the Alchemy guide. The orbs cost 75 gold from Arcanist Ivrenne (Alliance) or Magistrix Lambriesse (Horde) in Northrend's Dalaran, not the Broken Isles one.
Alchemy needs 45, three for each of fifteen Flasks of Stoneblood. Easy to buy, too.

Cataclysm Alchemy 1–75 8 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Mount Hyjal Herbalism. The best zone: nearly every node here is Cinderbloom, with only the occasional Stormvine between them.
Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Deepholm Herbalism. Almost as good, and Deepholm is full of Heartblossom as well, which grows nowhere else and which the same Alchemy guide wants.
Needs Herbalism. Cataclysm herbs sometimes give Volatile Life as you pick them, which Alchemy also needs. Alchemy wants 85, more than any other herb, 40 of them for Flasks of Titanic Strength at 60 to 65. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Shimmering Expanse, Vashj'ir Herbalism. The best spot for this underwater herb, and the Abyssal Depths next door is almost as good, so move there when someone else is picking.
Gather Herb loop of the peninsula, Tol Barad Peninsula Herbalism. Another good zone, but the guide suggests it only for characters who can cross water quickly: Death Knights and Shamans walking on it, or Druids in aquatic form.
Needs Herbalism. Alchemy wants 15, for Volcanic Potions and Elixirs of the Cobra at 10 to 25, and 15 more only if it picks Transmute: Ocean Sapphire over Demonseye at 65 to 70. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Deepholm Herbalism. Deepholm is the only zone where it grows, and Cinderbloom shares the zone, so one loop fills both for the Alchemy guide.
Needs Herbalism. Deepholm opens after the quest The Maelstrom. Picking it sometimes gives Volatile Life too. Alchemy wants 25, for Elixirs of Deep Earth, Elixirs of Impossible Accuracy and Golemblood Potions. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Whiptail in the old Uldum, Uldum Herbalism: picking Cataclysm herbs is the only way to get it. Whiptail in Uldum is one of the two best routes; a max-level character sees the later Uldum with other herbs, so talk to Zidormi at Ramkahen first to switch to the old one.
Gather Heartblossom across the zone, Deepholm Herbalism. The other good route, and the Heartblossom and Cinderbloom you pick on the way are both on the Alchemy guide's list.
Needs Herbalism; any Cataclysm herb can give it. Alchemy needs 45, five for Golemblood Potions and 40 for Flasks of Titanic Strength; Jewelcrafting 20 only if it makes Vicious Amberjewel Pendants. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Green lowlands of the whole zone, Twilight Highlands Herbalism. Twilight Highlands is the only zone where it grows, in the green ground away from the mountains. It is one of the scarcest Cataclysm herbs, so when the usual loop runs dry or someone else is picking, widen it to the rest of the zone.
Needs Herbalism. Picking it sometimes gives Volatile Life too. Alchemy wants 27, for Mythical Healing Potions at 45 to 60, and 15 more only if it picks Transmute: Demonseye over Ocean Sapphire at 65 to 70. Easy to buy, too.
  • 60 × Whiptail
Gather Along the river, Uldum Herbalism. Uldum is all but the only home of Whiptail, and its nodes follow the riverbanks, so flying the length of the river and back fills the bags. A max-level character sees the newer Uldum; Zidormi, marked at Ramkahen, switches you to the old one.
A few grow in Tol Barad too, worth picking only if you are there anyway. Alchemy needs 60: 5 for Mythical Mana Potions at 35 to 40, 40 for five Flasks of Titanic Strength at 60 to 65 and 15 for Transmute: Amberjewel at 70 to 75. Easy to buy, too.
  • 15 × Alicite
Salvage Prospecting Obsidium Ore, Mount Hyjal All six uncommon Cataclysm gems, Alicite among them, come one or two at a time from 23% of Obsidium prospects, a bigger share than Elementium gives. Mine the ore in Mount Hyjal or on the Shimmering Expanse route in Vashj'ir, the best Obsidium areas. 1 or 2 in 23% of prospects.
Salvage Prospecting Elementium Ore, Twilight Highlands Elementium yields it in 18% of prospects; worth it when you are mining Elementium in Twilight Highlands anyway. 1 or 2 in 18% of prospects.
Prospecting needs Jewelcrafting; anyone else should buy it. Alchemy needs 15, with 15 Whiptail, for five Transmute: Amberjewel at 70 to 75; by Wowpedia's prospecting table that is roughly 45 Obsidium prospects, some 220 ore. Easy to buy, too.
  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • 15 × Zephyrite, 15 × Azshara's Veil
    • 15 × Nightstone, 15 × Twilight Jasmine
    • Salvage Prospecting Obsidium Ore, Mount Hyjal Like every uncommon Cataclysm gem, Zephyrite turns up one or two at a time in 23% of Obsidium prospects. Gather the ore in Mount Hyjal or along the Shimmering Expanse in Vashj'ir, the two best Obsidium areas. 1 or 2 in 23% of prospects.
Salvage Prospecting Elementium Ore, Twilight Highlands Elementium gives it in 18% of prospects, a little less often, so it suits a miner already working Twilight Highlands for Elementium. 1 or 2 in 18% of prospects.
Prospecting needs Jewelcrafting; anyone else should buy it. Alchemy can use 15, with 15 Azshara's Veil, for five Transmute: Ocean Sapphire at 65 to 70; the other choice there is Nightstone with Twilight Jasmine. Fifteen is roughly 45 Obsidium prospects, some 220 ore, by Wowpedia's prospecting table.
    • Salvage Prospecting Obsidium Ore, Mount Hyjal Nightstone, like the other five uncommon Cataclysm gems, comes one or two at a time from 23% of Obsidium prospects. Mount Hyjal and the Shimmering Expanse in Vashj'ir are the places to mine the ore. 1 or 2 in 23% of prospects.
Salvage Prospecting Elementium Ore, Twilight Highlands Elementium gives it in 18% of prospects; Twilight Highlands is the best Elementium zone. 1 or 2 in 18% of prospects.
Prospecting needs Jewelcrafting; anyone else should buy it. Jewelcrafting needs 30 for 15 Nightstone Chokers at 35 to 50, two to a choker, which is roughly 90 Obsidium prospects, some 450 ore, by Wowpedia's prospecting table; the guide says to keep your Nightstone for this rather than cut it earlier. Alchemy can use 15, with 15 Twilight Jasmine, for five Transmute: Demonseye at 65 to 70.

Mists of Pandaria Alchemy 1–75 3 materials

Estimated materials

Added up from the guide's steps. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, The Jade Forest Herbalism. The best zone for it; fly one long loop of the zone, or a shorter one when other herbalists are about.
Gather The valley floor and the Skyrange, Valley of the Four Winds Nearly as good. The Skyrange, the high ground only a flyer can reach, is worth one lap each time you pass through.
Needs Herbalism. It grows in every Pandaria zone, which is why the Pandaria Alchemy guide favours recipes that use it; the guide's 40 is a floor, since the 10 to 55 stretch is whatever you have discovered. Easy to buy, too.
  • 20 × Snow Lily
Gather The snowy mountainsides, Kun-Lai Summit Herbalism. It grows only on snow, and Kun-Lai is the one Pandaria zone with snow, so this is the only place to pick it. Fly the snowfields; the mountain caves hold a few more but are slow to work through.
Needs Herbalism. The Pandaria Alchemy guide wants 20, all for Master Mana Potions at the end, so set aside 20 as you go. Easy to buy, too.
  • 20 × Fool's Cap
Gather Muddy ground in both zones, Dread Wastes and Townlong Steppes Herbalism. It grows only near mud and is scarce, so fly one loop through both neighbouring zones rather than circling either alone. In the Dread Wastes, also pick every Sha-Touched Herb on the way: about one in six holds a Fool's Cap.
Needs Herbalism. The Pandaria Alchemy guide wants 20, all for Master Mana Potions at the end. With other herbalists in the zones there is little left to find. Easy to buy, too.

Added up from the guide's steps. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 5 × Frostweed
Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Frostfire Ridge Herbalism. The farming guide's first pick; fly one wide loop of the zone and pick every node on the way.
Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Shadowmoon Valley (Draenor) The only other zone it grows in, and the guide's second choice.
Gather Garrison Herb Garden, Your garrison, Frostfire Ridge (Horde) or Shadowmoon Valley (Alliance) A garrison with a Herb Garden grows Frostweed nodes too, so pick them each time you pass through.
Needs Herbalism. Draenor Alchemy needs 5 for the first Secret of Draenor Alchemy, and 162 more if you choose Draenic Versatility Potion for 2 to 55; Draenor Jewelcrafting needs 90 if you choose Haste Taladite. A node sometimes wakes a Disturbed Podling, which drops the herb when killed. Easy to buy, too.

    • 54 Draenic Versatility Potions: 162 × Frostweed
    • 54 Draenic Intellect Potions: 162 × Talador Orchid

Needs Herbalism. Draenor Alchemy needs 5 for the first Secret of Draenor Alchemy, and 162 more if you choose Draenic Versatility Potion for 2 to 55; Draenor Jewelcrafting needs 90 if you choose Haste Taladite. A node sometimes wakes a Disturbed Podling, which drops the herb when killed. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Talador Herbalism. Talador is the only zone it grows in; fly one wide loop of it and pick every node on the way.
Gather Garrison Herb Garden, Your garrison, Frostfire Ridge (Horde) or Shadowmoon Valley (Alliance) A garrison with a Herb Garden grows Talador Orchid nodes too, so pick them each time you pass through.
Needs Herbalism. Draenor Alchemy needs 162 if you choose Draenic Intellect Potion for 2 to 55, and 180 if you choose Draenic Intellect or Draenic Stamina Flask for 55 to 100; Draenor Jewelcrafting needs 90 if you choose Stamina Taladite. A node sometimes wakes a Disturbed Podling, which drops the herb when killed. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Nagrand (Draenor) Herbalism. Draenor's Nagrand is the only zone it grows in; fly one wide loop of it and pick every node on the way.
Gather Garrison Herb Garden, Your garrison, Frostfire Ridge (Horde) or Shadowmoon Valley (Alliance) A garrison with a Herb Garden grows Nagrand Arrowbloom nodes too, so pick them each time you pass through.
Needs Herbalism. Draenor Engineering needs 24 for 12 Stealthman 54, the guide's usual pick for 1 to 30; Draenor Alchemy needs 162 if you choose Draenic Strength Potion for 2 to 55, and 180 if you choose Draenic Stamina or Draenic Strength Flask for 55 to 100. A node sometimes wakes a Disturbed Podling, which drops the herb when killed. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Gorgrond Herbalism. Gorgrond is the only zone it grows in wild, and it has far fewer nodes than the other Draenor herbs, so plan on a long loop.
Gather Garrison Herb Garden, Your garrison, Frostfire Ridge (Horde) or Shadowmoon Valley (Alliance) Put a follower in the garden and you can choose the herb it grows, so set it to Gorgrond Flytrap and pick the nodes each day.
Needs Herbalism. Draenor Alchemy needs 162 if you choose Draenic Mana Potion for 2 to 55, and 180 if you choose Draenic Strength Flask for 55 to 100; Draenor Jewelcrafting needs 90 if you choose Versatility Taladite, and Draenor Cooking 45 if your dishes lead to Gorgrond Chowder at 75 to 95. A node sometimes wakes a Disturbed Podling, which drops the herb when killed. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather Lava pools across the zone, Frostfire Ridge Herbalism. It grows at the edges of lava, so fly from one lava pool to the next; Frostfire Ridge is the only zone it grows in wild, and Frostweed fills the same loop.
Gather Garrison Herb Garden, Your garrison, Frostfire Ridge (Horde) or Shadowmoon Valley (Alliance) Put a follower in the garden and you can choose the herb it grows, so set it to Fireweed and pick the nodes each day.
Needs Herbalism. Draenor Alchemy needs 162 if you choose Draenic Agility Potion for 2 to 55, and 180 for the Draenic Agility Flask at 55 to 100; Draenor Jewelcrafting needs 90 if you choose Critical Strike Taladite, and Draenor Cooking 45 if your dishes lead to Blackrock Barbecue at 75 to 95. A node sometimes wakes a Disturbed Podling, which drops the herb when killed. Easy to buy, too.
  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • 45 Draenic Agility Flasks: 180 × Fireweed, 180 × Starflower
    • 45 Draenic Intellect Flasks: 180 × Talador Orchid, 180 × Starflower
    • 45 Draenic Stamina Flasks: 180 × Talador Orchid, 180 × Nagrand Arrowbloom
    • 45 Draenic Strength Flasks: 180 × Gorgrond Flytrap, 180 × Nagrand Arrowbloom
    • Gather Lava pools across the zone, Frostfire Ridge Herbalism. It grows at the edges of lava, so fly from one lava pool to the next; Frostfire Ridge is the only zone it grows in wild, and Frostweed fills the same loop.

A node sometimes wakes a Disturbed Podling, which drops the herb when killed. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Shadowmoon Valley (Draenor) Herbalism. The only zone it grows in wild; fly one wide loop and take every node, the Frostweed that shares the valley included.
Gather Garrison Herb Garden, Your garrison, Frostfire Ridge (Horde) or Shadowmoon Valley (Alliance) Put a follower in the garden and you can choose the herb it grows, so set it to Starflower and pick the nodes each day.

  • Gather Plant creatures, Vilepetal Rooters above all, Val'sharah Herbalism. Nearly every plant creature in Val'sharah can be herbed for seeds once dead. Round up a crowd of Vilepetal Rooters, kill them together and herb every corpse, which pays out Dreamleaf too.
Gather Aethril, Dreamleaf, Fjarnskaggl and Foxflower nodes, Broken Isles Herbalism. Seeds come out alongside these four herbs, so they pile up on any Legion herb loop in Azsuna, Val'sharah, Stormheim or Highmountain.
Needs Herbalism; skill 1 is enough. The Legion Alchemy guide uses 184 for its potions, plus 9 for the opening quest, Get Your Mix On. Easy to buy, too.
  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • 25 × Rank 2 - Leytorrent Potion: 25 × Starlight Rose, 50 × Aethril, 50 × Dreamleaf
    • 25 × Rank 2 - Potion of Deadly Grace: 25 × Starlight Rose, 50 × Fjarnskaggl, 50 × Dreamleaf
    • 25 × Rank 2 - Potion of the Old War: 25 × Starlight Rose, 50 × Foxflower, 50 × Fjarnskaggl
    • 25 × Rank 2 - Unbending Potion: 25 × Starlight Rose, 50 × Aethril, 50 × Foxflower
    • Gather A wide herb loop of the zone, Suramar Herbalism. Starlight Rose is Suramar's herb; flying, take the wide loop so the first nodes are back when you come round again. Kill every Withered Hungerer that springs up as you pick: each drops four to six roses.
Needs Herbalism; skill 1 picks as many as skill 100, but a pick can fail and give only Starlight Rosedust until you reach rank 3 of the herb, from quests started by items found while picking it. Enchant Gloves - Legion Herbalism cuts each pick from 1.5 to 0.5 seconds. The Legion Alchemy guide needs 25 for its potions and 420 for its flasks, whichever you choose. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather Herb loop along the main roads, Azsuna Herbalism. Aethril grows only in Azsuna, and the guide's loop follows the zone's main roads; flying, widen it so the nodes have time to return. A Withered Hungerer sometimes springs up as you pick, and is worth killing for its seven to eleven Aethril.
Needs Herbalism; skill 1 picks as many as skill 100. Enchant Gloves - Legion Herbalism cuts each pick from 1.5 to 0.5 seconds. The Legion Alchemy guide needs 50 for Leytorrent or Unbending Potions and 600 for the Flask of Ten Thousand Scars or of the Countless Armies. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather Vilepetal Rooters, Val'sharah Herbalism. The guide's best way: kill Vilepetal Rooters and herb their corpses for Dreamleaf. Gather a big pull of them, AoE it down and herb the lot; Defiled Grovewalkers give it too, but less often.
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Val'sharah Herbalism. The ordinary nodes, on a wide loop when flying. Kill any Nightmare Creeper that appears as you pick: it drops seven to eleven Dreamleaf.
Needs Herbalism; skill 1 picks as many as skill 100. Yseralline Seeds come off the same corpses and nodes. The Legion Alchemy guide needs 50 for Leytorrent Potions or Potions of Deadly Grace and 600 for the Flask of Ten Thousand Scars or of the Whispered Pact. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather Herb loop of the zone, Stormheim Herbalism. The guide's two Fjarnskaggl routes are both in Stormheim; fly the main one and switch to the other when the nodes are already picked. Unlike the other Legion herbs, it never spawns a creature carrying extra herbs.
Needs Herbalism; skill 1 picks as many as skill 100. Enchant Gloves - Legion Herbalism cuts each pick from 1.5 to 0.5 seconds. The Legion Alchemy guide needs 50 for Potions of Deadly Grace or of the Old War and 600 for the Flask of the Whispered Pact or of the Seventh Demon. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather A wide herb loop of the zone, Highmountain Herbalism. Foxflower is Highmountain's herb; flying lets you skip the mountains and the mobs, so take a wide loop. Sometimes a fox appears and runs off dropping Foxflowers: run over them to pick them up.
Needs Herbalism; skill 1 picks as many as skill 100. Heavily farmed at peak hours on busy realms. A Majestic Elderhorn Hoof, from the Majestic Elderhorn, gives 30% mount speed for ten minutes. The Legion Alchemy guide needs 50 for Potions of the Old War or Unbending Potions and 600 for the Flask of the Countless Armies or of the Seventh Demon. Easy to buy, too.
  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • 60 × Rank 2 - Flask of Ten Thousand Scars: 420 × Starlight Rose, 600 × Aethril, 600 × Dreamleaf
    • 60 × Rank 2 - Flask of the Countless Armies: 420 × Starlight Rose, 600 × Aethril, 600 × Foxflower
    • 60 × Rank 2 - Flask of the Whispered Pact: 420 × Starlight Rose, 600 × Fjarnskaggl, 600 × Dreamleaf
    • 60 × Rank 2 - Flask of the Seventh Demon: 420 × Starlight Rose, 600 × Fjarnskaggl, 600 × Foxflower

Battle for Azeroth Alchemy 1–175 8 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Gather Herb loop of the zone, Drustvar Herbalism. Siren's Pollen grows only on trees, never on the ground, and a loop of Drustvar brings plenty of it along with a lot of Winter's Kiss and some Riverbud. A wider circle of the zone gives the first nodes time to grow back.
Gather Herb route, Zuldazar A mix of Siren's Pollen, Star Moss and Riverbud.
Gather Herb route, Nazmir Gives a good share of Anchor Weed on the way.
Needs Herbalism; rank 1 is taught by the herbalism trainer in Dazar'alor or Boralus. Ranks 2 and 3 give more per node and come from quests started by items found while picking it: a Dead Pollen-Covered Bee from about skill 50, a Disgustingly Damp Flower from about 145. Pollen-Coated Drones and Swarms sometimes appear as you pick; kill them, as each drops 7 to 11 Siren's Pollen. The guide's 70 are for 20 Coastal Healing Potions and then 5 rank 2 ones. Easy to buy, too.
  • 70 × Riverbud
Gather Herb route, Tiragarde Sound Herbalism. The best Riverbud zone. It grows only by fresh water, rivers, lakes and ponds, never on the sea shore, and the same route brings plenty of Sea Stalk and some Siren's Pollen.
Gather Herb route, Stormsong Valley Another rich route for Riverbud, with a lot of Sea Stalk as well.
Needs Herbalism; rank 1 is taught by the herbalism trainer in Dazar'alor or Boralus, who also gives the quests for rank 2 (Emergency Transplants, skill 50) and rank 3 (Breaking The Food Chain, skill 145); higher ranks give more per node. The guide's list has 70, for Coastal Mana Potions, but its own shopping list wants 495 more for 33 Flasks of Endless Fathoms at 115 to 145, unless you make Flasks of the Vast Horizon with Star Moss instead. Easy to buy, too.
  • 165 × Anchor Weed
Gather Herb loop with the most nodes, Drustvar Herbalism. Anchor Weed has no spots of its own: now and then it grows in place of another herb, so the best route is the one with the most herbs, and Drustvar's is it. The farming guide has a second Drustvar loop for when the first is taken.
Gather Herb route, Tiragarde Sound A busy herb route that also fills your bags with Riverbud while you wait for Anchor Weed to turn up.
Gather Herb route, Stormsong Valley Plenty of Riverbud and Sea Stalk nodes, each a chance at Anchor Weed.
Needs Herbalism at 25 or more; the herbalism trainer in Dazar'alor or Boralus teaches rank 1 and gives the rank 2 quest, Seeking More Knowledge, at 115. Rank 3 comes from the quest More Anchor Pods, started by an Enormous Anchor Pod found while picking it, from skill 150. The guide's 165 are for 33 rank 2 flasks at 115 to 145, five each, whichever flask you choose. Easy to buy, too.
  • 110 × Zin'anthid
Gather Main herb loop, Nazjatar Herbalism. Both of the farming guide's routes are in Nazjatar, and this first loop gave the most. Mobs crowd the zone, which slows only those without flying.
Gather Second herb loop, Nazjatar Covers the parts of the zone the first loop misses; fewer nodes, but a good change when other players are on the first.
Needs Herbalism; the guide says rank 1 needs skill 140 and is taught by Rolm (Horde) or Instructor Ulooaka (Alliance) in Nazjatar, who appear after the zone's first few quests. Rank 2 comes from the rare Carnivorous Lasher, summoned with a Germinating Seed that Nazjatar mobs drop now and then, and rank 3 from a quest item found while picking it. The guide's 110 are for 20 Abyssal Healing Potions (145 to 160) and 25 rank 2 ones (160 to 175). Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Herb loops of the zone, Drustvar Herbalism. Drustvar is the Winter's Kiss zone: every route in the farming guide is there, and the first two are the richest, so fly one and switch to the other when someone else is on it.
Gather Gol Koval, Drustvar A small spot with seven or eight herbs, all Winter's Kiss; worth a stop, though far behind the full loops.
Needs Herbalism; rank 1 is taught by the herbalism trainer in Dazar'alor or Boralus, who starts the rank 2 quest chain (Meet Sweetflower to Can't Teach on an Empty Stomach) at skill 50. Rank 3 comes from the quest The Frigid Boon, started by an item of that name found while picking it from about 130. Higher ranks give more per node. The guide's 330 are for 33 rank 2 Flasks of Endless Fathoms or of the Vast Horizon at 115 to 145. Easy to buy, too.
  • 580 × Sea Stalk
Gather First herb route, Stormsong Valley Herbalism. Sea Stalk grows only by the sea, and the farming guide puts this Stormsong route first; the mobs that crowd it are no obstacle to a max-level character. Its second Stormsong route adds a lot of Riverbud.
Gather Herb route, Tiragarde Sound Mostly Sea Stalk, with a lot of Riverbud and some Siren's Pollen on the way.
Gather Herb route from end to end, Zuldazar Pick herbs from one end of the route to the other, then fly back to the start.
Needs Herbalism; rank 1 is taught by the herbalism trainer in Dazar'alor or Boralus, who also gives the quests for rank 2 (Cultural Significance, skill 50) and rank 3 (Gathering Mementos, skill 145); higher ranks give more per node. The guide's 580 are 80 for 10 rank 2 Potions of Rising Death (65 to 75) and 500 for 50 rank 2 Battle Potions of Strength (75 to 115). Easy to buy, too.
  • 460 × Star Moss
Gather Herb route, Vol'dun Herbalism. The route that gives the most Star Moss. It grows on the walls of buildings and ruins rather than on the ground, so look up as you fly.
Gather Herb route, Drustvar The guide's second choice; mobs stand guard over many of its herbs, which a max-level character simply kills on the way.
Gather Herb route, Zuldazar A mix of Star Moss, Riverbud and Siren's Pollen.
Needs Herbalism; rank 1 is taught by the herbalism trainer in Dazar'alor or Boralus, who also gives the quests for rank 2 (Here In Spirit, skill 50) and rank 3 (Ghost Busting, skill 145); higher ranks give more per node. The guide's 460 are 60 for 10 rank 2 Potions of Rising Death (65 to 75) and 400 for 50 rank 2 Battle Potions of Strength (75 to 115); making Flasks of the Vast Horizon at 115 to 145 takes 495 more. Easy to buy, too.
  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • 495 × Riverbud
    • 495 × Star Moss
    • Gather Herb route, Tiragarde Sound Herbalism.
    • Gather Herb route, Vol'dun Herbalism.

Shadowlands Alchemy 1–175 6 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Buy Distributor Au'naci, Hall of Shapes, Oribos The alchemy supply vendor beside the trainer Elixirist Au'pyr, who also sells the Distilled Death Extract the guide's Crafter's Marks need; buy every vial in one visit.
Buy Inscription and trade-goods suppliers, Shadowlands The inscription suppliers and trade-goods vendors of the Shadowlands carry it as well, handy when you are out in the zones.
Nearly every potion and Crafter's Mark in Shadowlands Alchemy takes a vial. The vial's own text says alchemy vendors sell it; that Au'naci is that vendor is from game knowledge.
  • Gather Herb loop of the zone, Bastion Herbalism. Death Blossom grows in every Shadowlands zone, each node being about as likely to be it as the zone's own herb. The farming guide's best loop is in Bastion, which brings Rising Glory along with it.
Gather Second herb loop, Bastion Herbalism. Almost as good as the first, for when someone else is on it.
Needs Herbalism. Shadowlands herbs have no ranks: more Shadowlands Herbalism skill is what gives more per node, and the Shadowlands Gathering glove enchant cuts each pick from 1.5 to 0.5 seconds. Any herb loop in Ardenweald, Revendreth or Maldraxxus turns up plenty too. The alchemy guide needs 328, more than any other herb. Easy to buy, too.
  • 169 × Rising Glory
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Bastion Herbalism. It grows only in Bastion; the farming guide's first loop gave the most, with Death Blossom on the nodes in between.
Gather Second herb loop, Bastion Herbalism. A little behind the first loop, and a good change when it is crowded.
Needs Herbalism; Shadowlands herbs have no ranks, only skill, and the Shadowlands Gathering glove enchant speeds up every pick. The alchemy guide needs 169. Easy to buy, too.
  • 104 × Marrowroot
Gather Herb loop of the zone, Maldraxxus Herbalism. It grows nowhere but Maldraxxus; the farming guide maps two loops round the zone that gave about the same haul, so take whichever is quieter.
Needs Herbalism; Shadowlands herbs have no ranks, so only Shadowlands Herbalism skill raises the yield, and the Shadowlands Gathering glove enchant cuts each pick from 1.5 to 0.5 seconds. The alchemy guide needs 104: 20 for Ground Marrowroot and 84 for Potions of Specter Swiftness. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Loop of the whole zone, Ardenweald Herbalism. It grows only in Ardenweald, and one big circuit of the whole zone gave the farming guide the most. The mob-packed stretches it passes are nothing to a max-level character.
Gather Second herb loop, Ardenweald Herbalism. Gives a few fewer herbs than the big circuit.
Needs Herbalism; no ranks in Shadowlands, only skill. Some world quests change parts of the zone, and one, A Matter of Stealth, takes every herb node out of its area while it is up, so skip that part until it expires. The alchemy guide needs 98. Easy to buy, too.
  • 70 × Widowbloom
Gather Loop of lower Revendreth, Revendreth Herbalism. It grows only in Revendreth, and a circuit of the zone's lower part gave the farming guide the most. Elites guard the way to a lift on the route; a max-level character simply goes through them.
Gather Second herb loop, Revendreth Herbalism. Slightly fewer herbs. Stonehead blocks one pass and throws anyone who comes near, so slip through the crack in the wall north of him, or do his quest Snacks for Stonehead once and he lets you by.
Needs Herbalism; no ranks in Shadowlands, only skill. The alchemy guide needs 70. Easy to buy, too.

Dragonflight Alchemy 1–100 11 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Farm Calving Elementals by Camp Antonidas, The Azure Span They hyperspawn around a small icy lake beside the camp, so there is never a gap: keep pulling everything there and AoE it down, the big quest mob among them included, since it drops Rousing Frost too.
Farm Tormented Steam, The Waking Shore Another hyperspawning spot. Provoking Flames fight the steam elementals there, so kill both; the flames give Rousing Fire.
Frigid herbs and Primal ore deposits also give a few to gatherers. Ten turn into one Awakened Frost from the bags. Alchemy needs 4, for Refreshing Healing Potions, and Jewelcrafting 2. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Unleashed Storms, Ohn'ahran Plains The best source, but they are only there while the Wind Breaker world quest is up. Pull the storms only: the small neutral mobs around them drop nothing.
Farm Restless Winds and Restless Gales, The Azure Span Air elementals that are there at any time; round them up and AoE them down.
Windswept herbs and Primal ore deposits also give a few to gatherers. Ten turn into one Awakened Air from the bags. Inscription needs 35, for seven Runed Writhebark; Alchemy and Jewelcrafting need 2 each. Easy to buy, too.
  • 410 × Hochenblume
Gather Herbalism loops, The Waking Shore, Ohn'ahran Plains or The Azure Span Herbalism. Dragon Isles herbs grow almost everywhere, so any loop through these zones fills the bags fast; Lush nodes give extra herbs.
Needs Herbalism. This is another quality rank of the same herb as 191460, and any rank will do: the guides say quality does not matter for leveling. Alchemy needs about 410 and Inscription 100, for milling. That Hochenblume is the commonest Dragon Isles herb, growing in every zone, is from game knowledge; the herbalism guide's routes do not rank the zones. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Rousing Frost from the Calving Elementals by Camp Antonidas, The Azure Span Ten Rousing Frost turn into one Awakened Frost from the bags, no profession needed, so farm the Rousing: the Calving Elementals around the icy lake hyperspawn, so pull everything and keep AoEing. From 10 × Rousing Frost (no profession).
Craft Rousing Frost from the Tormented Steam, The Waking Shore The other hyperspawning Rousing Frost spot; the Provoking Flames fighting them there give Rousing Fire, which the same recipes often want. From 10 × Rousing Frost (no profession).
An Awakened Frost also splits back into ten Rousing. Alchemy needs 34, so 340 Rousing Frost, nearly all for fifteen Phials of Tepid Versatility at 26 to 35; Inscription needs 3, for Cosmic Ink, and Jewelcrafting 1. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Rousing Fire from the Provoking Flames, The Waking Shore Ten Rousing Fire turn into one Awakened Fire from the bags, no profession needed. The Provoking Flames hyperspawn, mixed with Tormented Steam that gives Rousing Frost, so pull everything and keep AoEing. From 10 × Rousing Fire (no profession).
Craft Rousing Fire from the lava pit's Ashen Sparks and Destructive Flames, The Waking Shore Circle the small lava pit killing every fire elemental; the little ones drop Rousing Earth as well. From 10 × Rousing Fire (no profession).
Molten ore deposits give a few Rousing Fire to miners, and an Awakened Fire splits back into ten Rousing. Jewelcrafting lists 24, for Jagged Nozdorite, and Alchemy 20, mostly for Writhefire Oil; a blacksmith smelting Primal Molten Alloy uses one per smelt. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Rousing Air from the Unleashed Storms, Ohn'ahran Plains Ten Rousing Air turn into one Awakened Air from the bags, no profession needed. The storms are the best Rousing Air source but only appear while the Wind Breaker world quest is up; skip the small neutral mobs, which drop nothing. From 10 × Rousing Air (no profession).
Craft Rousing Air from the Restless Winds and Restless Gales, The Azure Span Air elementals there at any time, for when the world quest is down; round them up and AoE them. From 10 × Rousing Air (no profession).
Inscription needs 25, so 250 Rousing Air; Alchemy and Jewelcrafting need just one each, which is quicker to buy, and easy. Alchemists can also transmute one from an Awakened Frost and an Awakened Fire, as the Alchemy guide does at 15. An Awakened Air splits back into ten Rousing.
  • Craft Rousing Order from Titan-Touched herbs and ore deposits, Dragon Isles Ten Rousing Order turn into one Awakened Order from the bags, no profession needed. Rousing Order comes from gathering: Titan-Touched herbs and deposits turn up at random in place of ordinary ones and give a few each, so it builds up slowly on any herbalism or mining loop. From 10 × Rousing Order (no profession).
Unlike the other elements there is no farming guide and no mob spot for it in our sources, only Titan-Touched nodes. The Alchemy guide needs just one, for a Primal Convergent at 25 that it calls skippable, so buying it is quickest, which is easy. An Awakened Order splits back into ten Rousing.
  • Craft Rousing Earth from the cave of earth elementals patrolled by Cindershard Hulks, The Waking Shore Ten Rousing Earth turn into one Awakened Earth from the bags, no profession needed. Every mob in this cave can drop Rousing Earth, so a max-level character simply clears the whole cave, Hulks and all. From 10 × Rousing Earth (no profession).
Craft Rousing Earth from the Unsettled Rubble and Displaced Earth, The Waking Shore A camp thick with small earth elementals that come back quickly, though spread out enough to need some running between pulls. From 10 × Rousing Earth (no profession).
Hardened ore deposits give a few Rousing Earth to miners. Alchemy and Jewelcrafting need just one each, for a Primal Convergent and a Puissant Nozdorite, so buying it is quickest, which is easy; a blacksmith smelting Primal Molten Alloy uses one per smelt. The farming guide does not name the cave.
  • 35 × Writhebark
Gather Among trees and thick foliage, Dragon Isles Herbalism. Writhebark grows where trees and undergrowth are dense, so keep a herbalism loop to the wooded stretches of the zones the herbalism guide routes through: the Waking Shore, Ohn'ahran Plains and the Azure Span.
Needs Herbalism. The guides list one quality rank's item id, but any rank will do: they say quality does not matter for leveling. Inscription needs 55, keeping 35 unmilled for Runed Writhebark; Alchemy needs 35 and Enchanting 8. No source says which zone has the most. Easy to buy, too.
  • 15 × Saxifrage
Gather Mountains, cliffs and other rugged ground, Dragon Isles Herbalism. Saxifrage grows mostly on rocky heights, now and then on open plains and rarely in volcanic country, so fly a loop along the mountainsides and cliffs of the zones the herbalism guide covers.
Needs Herbalism. The guides list one quality rank's item id, but any rank will do: they say quality does not matter for leveling. Alchemy and Inscription need only 15 each, so buying is quickest, which is easy. No source says which zone has the most.
  • Gather Rivers, coasts and damp caves, Dragon Isles Herbalism. Bubble Poppy grows by water, so follow the rivers and shorelines of the zones the herbalism guide covers and look into wet caves on the way.
Needs Herbalism. The guides list one quality rank's item id, but any rank will do: they say quality does not matter for leveling. Inscription needs 20 and Alchemy 15, so buying is quickest, which is easy. No source says which zone has the most.
