Added up from the guide's steps. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Craft Milling Peacebloom, Silverleaf or Earthroot, Tirisfal Glades Inscribers mill five of any of these herbs at a time for two to four Alabaster Pigment. Peacebloom and Silverleaf cover Tirisfal Glades and Elwynn Forest, so one flying loop of either zone fills the bags with both. From 5 × Peacebloom (Inscription). 2 to 4 per five herbs milled.
Milling needs Inscription, and picking the herbs Herbalism; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The Classic guide reckons on about 180 herbs for its 88 pigment.

From 5 × Khadgar's Whisker (Inscription). 2 to 4 per five herbs milled.

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Craft Milling Dreamleaf, Val'sharah Inscribers mill Legion herbs five at a time, and about one mill in five gives a Sallow Pigment. Dreamleaf also yields Nightmare Pods with more inside, so it gives about twice as much as the other herbs; farm it from the Vilepetal Rooters in Val'sharah. From 5 × Dreamleaf (Inscription). a 22% chance of one per five herbs, plus the pods.
Craft Milling Felwort, Broken Isles Felwort always mills into 8 to 13 Sallow Pigment per five, so about a hundred of this rare herb cover the whole guide, though it gives less Roseate Pigment. From 5 × Felwort (Inscription). 8 to 13 per five herbs.
Craft Milling Aethril, Foxflower, Fjarnskaggl or Starlight Rose, Broken Isles Every other Legion herb gives the same one-in-five chance, so 200 Sallow Pigment takes about 4,500 of them, with plenty of Roseate Pigment on the side. Milling needs Inscription, and picking the herbs Herbalism; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. • Craft Milling Starlight Rose, Suramar Inscribers mill five herbs at a time, and Starlight Rose gives the most Roseate Pigment of any Legion herb; it grows in Suramar. From 5 × Starlight Rose (Inscription). 4 to 6 per five herbs.

Milling needs Inscription, and picking the herbs Herbalism; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The Legion guide needs about 900, for 60 Vantus Runes. Sallow Pigment is the slow one: the herbs milled for its 200 give about 900 Roseate Pigment or more on the side, unless you mill Felwort.

  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • 60 × Rank 2 - Contract: 7th Legion: 900 × Ultramarine Ink, 480 × Crimson Ink

  • Craft Milling Anchor Weed, Drustvar Anchor Weed mills into Viridescent Pigment about three times as often as other herbs. It is a rare herb that sometimes grows in place of the others, so the zone with the most herbs, Drustvar, turns up the most. From 1 × Viridescent Pigment, 1 × Acacia Powder, 1 × Distilled Water (Inscription). about 30% of Anchor Weed mills give the pigment.
Craft Milling any other BfA herb, Kul Tiras and Zandalar Every other Kul Tiras or Zandalar herb gives the pigment now and then, so the herbs milled for Ultramarine and Crimson Ink cover the 50 the guide needs on the side. From 1 × Viridescent Pigment, 1 × Acacia Powder, 1 × Distilled Water (Inscription). about 10% of mills give the pigment.
Milling and inking need Inscription, and picking the herbs Herbalism; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. BfA trinkets, other than crafted ones, always give one. about one for every six pieces scrapped.
Craft Transmute: Expulsom Alchemists with Kul Tiran or Zandalari Alchemy 110 can make five a day; the transmute has its own cooldown, apart from older ones. From 10 × Akunda's Bite, 10 × Winter's Kiss, 3 × Anchor Weed (Alchemy). 5 a day.

  • Craft Milling Zin'anthid, Nazjatar Zin'anthid, Nazjatar's herb, is the only one that mills into it; about 150 herbs give the 100 pigment the guide needs. Aerated Water and Rune Etched Vials are sold by Distributor Au'sha beside the Inscription trainer in Oribos. Mill by hand only up to 25, as Mass Mill, learned at 30, gives skill points up to 65. The guide's steps name 80 inks, for Writs of Grave Robbing and Darkmoon Cards of Death, but the inks made for 1–25 and the Missives at 75–86 take more; it has you mill about 900 herbs in all.
  • 80 × Umbral Ink
Craft Milling Death Blossom, Bastion Inscribers mill Shadowlands herbs, and about half the mills give Umbral Pigment; one pigment, an Aerated Water and a Rune Etched Vial make an ink. Death Blossom grows in every zone, and its best farming loop is in Bastion. From 1 × Umbral Pigment, 1 × Aerated Water, 1 × Rune Etched Vial (Inscription). about half of all mills give the pigment.

  • Craft Milling Nightshade, The Maw Nightshade always mills into Tranquil Pigment, and every herb in the Maw is Nightshade. From 1 × Tranquil Pigment, 1 × Aerated Water, 1 × Rune Etched Vial (Inscription). every Nightshade mill gives the pigment.
Craft Milling other Shadowlands herbs, Shadowlands Other Shadowlands herbs give it only about one mill in twenty, and Nightshade grows in their place under one time in twenty, so the herbs milled for the other inks bring in a few on the side. From 1 × Tranquil Pigment, 1 × Aerated Water, 1 × Rune Etched Vial (Inscription). about 5% of mills give the pigment.
Milling and inking need Inscription, and picking the herbs Herbalism; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The Maw has to be unlocked through the covenant campaign before you can pick there. Dragonflight Inscription 1–100 13 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 100 × Hochenblume
Gather Herbalism loops, The Waking Shore, Ohn'ahran Plains or The Azure Span Herbalism. Dragon Isles herbs grow almost everywhere, so any loop through these zones fills the bags fast; Lush nodes give extra herbs.
Needs Herbalism. This is another quality rank of the same herb as 191460, and any rank will do: the guides say quality does not matter for leveling. Alchemy needs about 410 and Inscription 100, for milling. That Hochenblume is the commonest Dragon Isles herb, growing in every zone, is from game knowledge; the herbalism guide's routes do not rank the zones. Easy to buy, too.
  • 55 × Writhebark
Gather Among trees and thick foliage, Dragon Isles Herbalism. Writhebark grows where trees and undergrowth are dense, so keep a herbalism loop to the wooded stretches of the zones the herbalism guide routes through: the Waking Shore, Ohn'ahran Plains and the Azure Span.
Needs Herbalism. The guides list one quality rank's item id, but any rank will do: they say quality does not matter for leveling. Inscription needs 55, keeping 35 unmilled for Runed Writhebark; Alchemy needs 35 and Enchanting 8. No source says which zone has the most. Easy to buy, too.
  • 15 × Saxifrage
Gather Mountains, cliffs and other rugged ground, Dragon Isles Herbalism. Saxifrage grows mostly on rocky heights, now and then on open plains and rarely in volcanic country, so fly a loop along the mountainsides and cliffs of the zones the herbalism guide covers.
Needs Herbalism. The guides list one quality rank's item id, but any rank will do: they say quality does not matter for leveling. Alchemy and Inscription need only 15 each, so buying is quickest, which is easy. No source says which zone has the most.
  • Gather Rivers, coasts and damp caves, Dragon Isles Herbalism. Bubble Poppy grows by water, so follow the rivers and shorelines of the zones the herbalism guide covers and look into wet caves on the way.
Needs Herbalism. The guides list one quality rank's item id, but any rank will do: they say quality does not matter for leveling. Inscription needs 20 and Alchemy 15, so buying is quickest, which is easy. No source says which zone has the most.
  • 128 × Chilled Rune
Craft Chilled Rune Scribes know it from Dragon Isles Inscription 1 and make it with the Virtuoso Inking Set: five Rousing Frost and one Serene Ink, the ink made from Bubble Poppy's pigment. From 5 × Rousing Frost, 1 × Serene Ink (Inscription).
The Inscription guide makes one at 15–20 and lists 128: 80 for Vantus Runes at 60–85, 20 for the Crackling Codexes and the rest for Runed Writhebark, runes and missives. It suggests buying crafted reagents like this once they stop giving skill, as higher-level scribes sell them below the cost of materials. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Unleashed Storms, Ohn'ahran Plains The best source, but they are only there while the Wind Breaker world quest is up. Pull the storms only: the small neutral mobs around them drop nothing.
Farm Restless Winds and Restless Gales, The Azure Span Air elementals that are there at any time; round them up and AoE them down.
Windswept herbs and Primal ore deposits also give a few to gatherers. Ten turn into one Awakened Air from the bags. Inscription needs 35, for seven Runed Writhebark; Alchemy and Jewelcrafting need 2 each. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Rousing Frost from the Calving Elementals by Camp Antonidas, The Azure Span Ten Rousing Frost turn into one Awakened Frost from the bags, no profession needed, so farm the Rousing: the Calving Elementals around the icy lake hyperspawn, so pull everything and keep AoEing. From 10 × Rousing Frost (no profession).
Craft Rousing Frost from the Tormented Steam, The Waking Shore The other hyperspawning Rousing Frost spot; the Provoking Flames fighting them there give Rousing Fire, which the same recipes often want. From 10 × Rousing Frost (no profession).
An Awakened Frost also splits back into ten Rousing. Alchemy needs 34, so 340 Rousing Frost, nearly all for fifteen Phials of Tepid Versatility at 26 to 35; Inscription needs 3, for Cosmic Ink, and Jewelcrafting 1. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Ducks by rivers and ponds, Dragon Isles Ducks living along the rivers and ponds of the Dragon Isles drop it; the guide needs only one, so kill ducks at the first water you pass until it drops.
The Inscription guide uses it once, for the Scribe's Fastened Quill at 32–39. No source names the best pond. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Blazing Ink Scribes know it from Dragon Isles Inscription 1, and each craft makes two. Mill Saxifrage for the Blazing Pigment and Hochenblume for the Shimmering Pigment; Gohfyrr in Valdrakken sells the water and vials. From 1 × Iridescent Water, 1 × Draconic Vial, 1 × Blazing Pigment, 2 × Shimmering Pigment (Inscription).
The Inscription guide makes twelve at 15–20 and lists 12 more on top; it uses them for Burnished Ink, a Chef's Smooth Rolling Pin and the Fireflash missives. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Burnished Ink Scribes blend the three basic Dragon Isles inks into it, two of each, with an Iridescent Water from Gohfyrr in Valdrakken; the guide makes four at 20–32 while it still gives skill. From 1 × Iridescent Water, 2 × Blazing Ink, 2 × Flourishing Ink, 2 × Serene Ink (Inscription).
The Inscription guide lists 180 more, all for 80 Vantus Runes at 60–85, and suggests buying them rather than making them, as higher-level scribes sell crafted reagents below the cost of materials. The two-of-each amounts come from the guide's 20–32 step. Easy to buy, too.
  • 44 × Cosmic Ink
Craft Cosmic Ink Scribes build it from their other crafts, Burnished Ink, Serene Ink and Runed Writhebark, plus an Awakened Frost and an Iridescent Water from Gohfyrr in Valdrakken. The guide makes three at 39–45. From 1 × Iridescent Water, 1 × Awakened Frost, 1 × Serene Ink, 2 × Burnished Ink, 1 × Runed Writhebark (Inscription).
The Inscription guide lists 44 more, for the five Crackling Codexes of the Isles at 85–100, and links two of its quality ranks (194754 and 194756); any rank will do. The ink amounts come from the guide's 39–45 step. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Rousing Air from the Unleashed Storms, Ohn'ahran Plains Ten Rousing Air turn into one Awakened Air from the bags, no profession needed. The storms are the best Rousing Air source but only appear while the Wind Breaker world quest is up; skip the small neutral mobs, which drop nothing. From 10 × Rousing Air (no profession).
Craft Rousing Air from the Restless Winds and Restless Gales, The Azure Span Air elementals there at any time, for when the world quest is down; round them up and AoE them. From 10 × Rousing Air (no profession).
Inscription needs 25, so 250 Rousing Air; Alchemy and Jewelcrafting need just one each, which is quicker to buy, and easy. Alchemists can also transmute one from an Awakened Frost and an Awakened Fire, as the Alchemy guide does at 15. An Awakened Air splits back into ten Rousing.
  • Craft Runed Writhebark Scribes fasten a Chilled Rune to unmilled Writhebark with Flourishing Ink and Rousing Air; the guide makes seven at 20–32, which is why it says to keep 35 Writhebark back from milling. From 5 × Rousing Air, 5 × Writhebark, 1 × Flourishing Ink, 1 × Chilled Rune (Inscription).
The amounts are from the guide's 20–32 step; Wowpedia lists one Awakened Air instead of the Rousing Air, so check the recipe in game. The guide lists 25, for the five Crackling Codexes at 85–100, and links two quality ranks (194862 and 194864); any rank will do. Easy to buy, too.
