Classic Engineering 1–300 16 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Gather Copper Veins in the old Darkshore, Darkshore Mining. Rough Stone comes up with the ore when you mine Copper Veins, and Darkshore is the richest Copper zone, about 200 ore in one flying lap. Zidormi, marked in the north of the zone, switches you to the old Darkshore the route is for.
Gather Copper Veins in the caves, Durotar Another strong Copper zone: each of its few caves usually holds three or four Copper Veins.
Needs Mining. Easy to buy, too.
  • 36 × Copper Bar
Craft Any forge Smelt Copper, the first thing Mining teaches, turns each Copper Ore into one bar. From 1 × Copper Ore (Mining).
Gather Copper Veins in the old Darkshore, Darkshore Mining. The richest Copper zone, about 200 ore in one flying lap. Zidormi, marked in the north of the zone, switches you to the old Darkshore the route is for.
Gather Copper Veins in the caves, Durotar Each of Durotar's caves usually holds three or four Copper Veins close together.
Smelting needs Mining. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Tin Veins in the Alterac Mountains, Hillsbrad Foothills Mining. Coarse Stone comes up with the ore when you mine Tin Veins, and the Alterac Mountains in the north of Hillsbrad are the best Tin spot; fly laps around the mountains until the veins are back.
Gather Tin Veins, Northern Stranglethorn The second-best Tin zone, if someone else is already mining the Alterac Mountains.
Needs Mining. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Shadowfang Keep, Silverpine Forest The Wool Cloth dungeon: its mobs drop Linen along with the Wool, and a max-level character clears it in one sweep. Reset from your portrait and go again, up to ten instances an hour.
Farm Riverpaw gnolls near Sentinel Hill, Westfall The gnoll camps around Sentinel Hill are refilled almost as fast as you empty them. They are gone for anyone who has finished Westfall's closing storyline, Return to Sentinel Hill.
Farm Hillsbrad Worgens, Silverpine Forest The worgen stand close together, come back quickly and drop Linen and nothing better.
Almost every mob that drops Wool Cloth drops Linen as well, so a Wool farm fills both. Easy to buy, too.
  • 107 × Bronze Bar
Craft Any forge Smelt Bronze, taught by a mining trainer at Classic Mining 50, melts one Copper Bar and one Tin Bar into two Bronze Bars. From 1 × Copper Bar, 1 × Tin Bar (Mining).
Gather Tin Veins in the Alterac Mountains, Hillsbrad Foothills Mining. Tin is the half that runs short, and the Alterac Mountains in the north of Hillsbrad are the best place for it; fly laps around the mountains.
Gather Copper Veins in the old Darkshore, Darkshore Mining. The Copper half: about 200 ore in one flying lap, once Zidormi in the north has switched you to the old Darkshore.
Smelting needs Mining. Blacksmithing's 180 Bronze Bars take 90 Copper Bars and 90 Tin Bars. Easy to buy, too.
  • 2 × Tigerseye
Salvage Prospecting Copper Ore from the old Darkshore, Darkshore Jewelcrafters prospect five Copper Ore at a time, and the gem is Tigerseye or Malachite about equally often, so some 200 ore yields the twenty Jewelcrafting wants. One flying lap of the old Darkshore, which Zidormi in the north of the zone switches you to, mines about that much. a Tigerseye from about half of all Copper prospects.
Prospecting needs Jewelcrafting and the ore needs Mining; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Engineering needs just two, for the Flying Tiger Goggles. In the Jewelcrafting guide Malachite Pendants can stand in for the Tigerseye Bands, so the Malachite from the same prospecting is not wasted.
  • Gather Iron Deposits in the north, Feralas Mining. Heavy Stone comes up with the ore from Iron Deposits, and Feralas is the best Iron zone; laps of the northern half alone are enough.
Gather Iron Deposits, Western Plaguelands Nearly as good as Feralas; leave out Hearthglen, which has no ore.
Needs Mining. That Iron Deposits give Heavy Stone is from game knowledge; the farming guide is about the ore. Easy to buy, too.
  • 60 × Wool Cloth
Farm Shadowfang Keep, Silverpine Forest The dungeon in southern Silverpine is cleared in one sweep by a max-level character; reset it from your portrait and run it again, up to ten instances an hour.
Farm The road east of Greenwarden's Grove, Wetlands Dragonmaw Whelpstealers and Ebon Slavehunters fight a running battle here; both sides are hostile to you and drop Wool, with Linen alongside, so pull the whole fight at once. Replacements arrive very fast.
Farm Stormpike Engineers on Gavin's Naze, Hillsbrad Foothills The engineers come back almost the moment they die, so the camp never empties.
    Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Basilisks in and around their cave, Cape of Stranglethorn Skinning. Ironjaw and Thrashtail Basilisks: half of them fill the cave, so pull the whole cave in one go, and the ones outside are back by the time you come out. More beasts roam north of the Gurubashi Arena.
Gather Ebon Slavehunters on the road east of Greenwarden's Grove, Wetlands Skinning. The slavehunters are locked in a running fight with Dragonmaw Whelpstealers and respawn very quickly.
Gather Black Dragon Whelps in the Charred Vale, Stonetalon Mountains Skinning. The whelps stand in threes, so gather several packs and kill them all at once.
Needs Skinning, at about 140 Classic Skinning, or you get lower leathers. Easy to buy, too.
  • 4 × Steel Bar
Craft Any forge Miners learn Smelt Steel from a mining trainer at Classic Mining 125; each bar takes one Iron Bar and one Coal. The Coal is sold by the Blacksmithing Supply vendor beside the blacksmithing trainer, and Iron Ore is mined best in Feralas or Western Plaguelands. From 1 × Iron Bar, 1 × Coal (Mining).
Smelting needs Mining; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Engineering needs only four, for the Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor.
  • 120 × Solid Stone
Gather Mithril Deposits around Dreadmaul Rock, Burning Steppes Mining. Solid Stone comes up with the ore from Mithril Deposits. The caves under Dreadmaul Rock are packed with them (you go in on foot and clear the mobs inside), and the corner of the map around it has plenty more.
Gather Mithril Deposits and the Mithril cave, Badlands A short, simple loop, plus a cave that is full of Mithril and the mobs guarding it, quick work for a max-level character.
Gather Mithril Deposits, Felwood One big loop around the whole zone.
Needs Mining. That Mithril Deposits give Solid Stone is from game knowledge; the farming guide is about the ore. Easy to buy, too.
  • 161 × Mithril Bar
Craft Any forge Smelt Mithril, taught by a mining trainer at Classic Mining 150, turns each Mithril Ore into one bar. From 1 × Mithril Ore (Mining).
Gather Mithril Deposits around Dreadmaul Rock, Burning Steppes Mining. The caves under Dreadmaul Rock are packed with deposits (you go in on foot and clear the mobs inside), and the corner of the map around it has plenty more.
Gather Mithril Deposits and the Mithril cave, Badlands A short loop plus a cave full of Mithril and the mobs guarding it, quick work for a max-level character.
Smelting needs Mining. Felwood is a third good zone: one big loop around it. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Zul'Farrak, Tanaris Before each run, fly over the instance portal to the outdoor Zul'Farrak, where about a hundred trolls crowd the stepped execution platform, and kill them all. Then clear the dungeon on your mount, opening the Shallow Graves by Witch Doctor Zum'rah for extra zombies, and reset; the outdoor trolls are back within three or four minutes.
Farm Stratholme, Eastern Plaguelands About as good as Zul'Farrak when someone else is on the outdoor trolls there. Go in at the Main Gate, clear it and reset, up to ten instances an hour.
Farm Dunemaul ogres, Tanaris An open-world spot: the ogres are spread out but come back quickly, and each drops one to three pieces.
Sandfury Shadowcasters in Zul'Farrak knock you off your mount, except the Chauffeured Chopper (the reward for 35 heirlooms), which counts you as a passenger. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Thorium Veins, Winterspring Mining. Dense Stone comes up with the ore from Thorium Veins, and Winterspring is thick with Rich Thorium Veins; you find them everywhere, on the route or off it.
Gather Thorium Veins around the crater, Un'Goro Crater One big loop around the crater's rim covers it.
Gather Thorium Veins in the old Silithus, Silithus Plenty of veins, but only in the old Silithus: most are gone from today's zone, so speak to Zidormi in the north-east first.
Needs Mining. That Thorium Veins give Dense Stone is from game knowledge; the farming guide is about the ore. Easy to buy, too.
  • 195 × Thorium Bar
Craft Any forge Smelt Thorium, taught by a mining trainer at Classic Mining 200, turns each Thorium Ore into one bar. From 1 × Thorium Ore (Mining).
Gather Thorium Veins, Winterspring Mining. The best Thorium zone, thick with Rich Thorium Veins; you find them everywhere, on the route or off it.
Gather Thorium Veins around the crater, Un'Goro Crater One big loop around the crater's rim covers it.
Smelting needs Mining. The old Silithus is good too, after Zidormi in the north-east has switched you to it. Easy to buy, too.
  • 25 × Runecloth
Farm Blackrock Depths, Blackrock Mountain The dwarves and other humanoids throughout the dungeon drop it. A full clear takes a max-level character six or seven minutes; reset the instance and go again, minding the limit of ten instances an hour.
Farm Twilight Base Camp and Twilight Post, Silithus Twilight cultists fill both camps: round up the Base Camp, kill it all, and move to Twilight Post while it refills. Speak to Zidormi in the north-east to see Silithus as it was before the Legion invasion, or the cultists are gone.
Farm Humanoid camps, Blasted Lands Drowned Gilnean Merchants and the other humanoids drop it. As in Silithus, Zidormi in the north has to show you the zone's old state first.

The Burning Crusade Engineering 1–75 8 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 450 × Fel Iron Bar
Craft Any forge Smelt Fel Iron, the first smelting Outland Mining teaches, turns two Fel Iron Ore into one bar. From 2 × Fel Iron Ore (Mining).
Gather Fel Iron Deposits, Hellfire Peninsula Mining. Every node in the zone is Fel Iron, and they come back fast enough that a short route through part of it is enough.
Smelting needs Mining; learn Outland Mining from Hanlir or Fono in Shattrath, or each node gives far less ore. Blacksmithing needs 238 (136 more on the Aldor route) and Engineering 450. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Shattered Rumblers, Nagrand The guide's one spot for Mote of Earth: sweep through the Rumblers in a straight line, gathering them up as you go, then fly back to the start. Kill them all too fast and they take a minute or two to return.
Engineering needs 40, with 20 Motes of Fire, for 20 Elemental Blasting Powder at 1 to 25. Ten make a Primal Earth. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Throne of Kil'jaeden, Hellfire Peninsula Kill the Incandescent Fel Sparks: they respawn so quickly that there are always more. The Felblood Initiates among them cannot be killed and stay at 1 health, so ignore them.
Farm Raging Fire-Souls, Nagrand The second spot; the Fire-Souls drop just as well but come back more slowly.
Engineering needs 20, with 40 Motes of Earth, for 20 Elemental Blasting Powder at 1 to 25. Ten make a Primal Fire. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft From your bags, Outland Using ten Motes of Earth turns them into one Primal Earth; no profession is needed. Farm the motes at the spot below. From 10 × Mote of Earth (Combine (no profession)).
Farm Shattered Rumblers, Nagrand The best place for Motes of Earth: run a straight line through the Rumblers, pulling them along, and fly back to where you began. If you clear them too fast, they take a minute or two to come back.
Engineering needs 35 to 45, mostly for the 34 Adamantite Frames at 25 to 35; Jewelcrafting 12, for Mercurial Adamantite at 25 to 35. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Mana-Tombs, Terokkar Forest The normal-difficulty Auchindoun wing, entered north of the Ring of Observance in the Bone Wastes, is full of cloth-dropping mobs to clear in one go. Reset from your portrait and go back in, up to ten instances an hour.
Farm Legion Hold, Shadowmoon Valley (Outland) Shadow Council Warlocks fill the camp, at least three of them up at any time, and fall in a hit or two.
Farm Manaforge B'naar, Netherstorm Blood elves stand in groups among the tents; loop the camp, gathering each group as you pass.
    Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Any forge Smelt Adamantite, which Outland Mining teaches at skill 25, makes one bar from two Adamantite Ore. From 2 × Adamantite Ore (Mining).
Gather Adamantite Deposits, caves included, Nagrand (Outland) Mining. Nagrand's caves are small, hold several nodes each and have easy mobs, so go into every one on the loop.
Gather Adamantite Deposits, caves included, Netherstorm Mining. Just as rich; its larger caves are full of tougher mobs, which a max-level character clears on the way to the nodes.
Smelting needs Mining; learn Outland Mining from Hanlir or Fono in Shattrath, or each node gives far less ore. Blacksmithing needs 180, Engineering 350 and Jewelcrafting 12. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft From your bags, Outland Using ten Motes of Fire turns them into one Primal Fire; no profession is needed. Farm the motes in one of the two places below. From 10 × Mote of Fire (Combine (no profession)).
Farm Throne of Kil'jaeden, Hellfire Peninsula The best mote spot: the Incandescent Fel Sparks come back so fast that a max-level character never runs out of them. Leave the Felblood Initiates alone; they cannot be killed and sit at 1 health.
Farm Raging Fire-Souls, Nagrand Also good, but the Fire-Souls return more slowly, so kill them all and the next round means waiting.
Blacksmithing's Aldor route needs 68, four for each of the 17 Flamebane Gloves at 60 to 75; Engineering 6 to 15, one per Khorium Power Core at 55 to 60, which the Field Repair Bots at 70 to 75 use up. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Any forge Smelt Khorium, taught by the Outland Mining trainer at skill 75, turns two Khorium Ore into one bar. From 2 × Khorium Ore (Mining).
Gather Khorium Veins on the Adamantite route, caves included, Nagrand Mining. Khorium Veins turn up now and then in place of Adamantite Deposits, so the Adamantite route is the Khorium route; Nagrand's small caves make it the best Adamantite zone.
Gather Khorium Veins on the Adamantite route, Netherstorm The other excellent Adamantite zone; its caves are larger, so lap the open ground.
Smelting needs Mining. Engineering needs 6 to 15, one per Khorium Power Core at 55 to 60, and every recipe from 70 to 75 uses those cores. The guide warns Khorium Ore is usually expensive to buy.

Wrath of the Lich King Engineering 1–75 11 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 260 × Cobalt Bar
Craft Any forge Smelt Cobalt, the first thing Northrend Mining teaches, turns each Cobalt Ore into one bar. From 1 × Cobalt Ore (Mining).
Gather Cobalt Deposits across the zone, Howling Fjord Mining. The best zone for Cobalt Ore.
Gather Cobalt Deposits across the zone, Borean Tundra Mining. Nearly as good, for when Howling Fjord is busy; Grizzly Hills is another good choice that few miners visit.
Needs Mining; learn Northrend Mining first (Jedidiah Handers in Northrend's Dalaran, or the trainers in Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord), or the nodes give much less ore. Engineering needs 260 and Blacksmithing 180. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Naxxramas, Plague Quarter, Dragonblight Enter on 25-player difficulty, kill Noth the Plaguebringer and the room of bats past him, but leave the second boss alone. Then reset, switch to 10-player, and from then on clear just that room and reset, up to ten instances an hour.
Farm Pit of Saron, Icecrown No bosses in the way: round up every mob at the start of the dungeon on your mount, kill them in one go, run out and reset. It opens only once you have done the Forge of Souls quests, which start inside the Forge of Souls in the same tunnel.
Learn Cloth Scavenging first, from the quest of that name given by Northrend's tailoring trainers; without it Frostweave drops very rarely. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Lifeblood Elementals, Sholazar Basin The best source of Crystallized Earth. The elementals respawn almost at once, so you can keep pulling them with no waiting.
Gather Saronite Deposits across the zone, Icecrown Mining. Saronite nodes give Crystallized Earth beside the ore; fewer than the elementals, but the Saronite is worth having too.
Buy Frozo the Renowned, Dalaran, Northrend He trades an Eternal Earth for one Frozen Orb, and an Eternal Earth splits into ten Crystallized Earth, so one or two orbs cover either guide. The orbs cost 75 gold from Arcanist Ivrenne (Alliance) or Magistrix Lambriesse (Horde) in Northrend's Dalaran, not the Broken Isles one.
Engineering needs 10, for Overcharged Capacitors at 1 to 10; Jewelcrafting 14, for seven Bloodstone Bands at 20 to 25. Ten make an Eternal Earth. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Boiling Spirits around their pool, Borean Tundra The best source. The pool never has fewer than five or six spirits, so new ones appear as fast as you kill them.
Farm Halls of Lightning, The Storm Peaks Gather each room into one pull, loot, and once the room before the second boss is down, step out and reset from your portrait, up to ten times an hour. A little less Water than the pool but far less effort, and Crystallized Fire drops here too.
Buy Frozo the Renowned, Dalaran, Northrend He trades an Eternal Water for one Frozen Orb, and an Eternal Water splits into ten Crystallized Water, so Engineering's 40 is four orbs. The orbs cost 75 gold from Arcanist Ivrenne (Alliance) or Magistrix Lambriesse (Horde) in Northrend's Dalaran, not the Broken Isles one.
Engineering lists 40 (its own steps use 35: Volatile Blasting Triggers, Froststeel Tubes and Mana Injector Kits); Leatherworking 65 only if it makes Dark Frostscale Leggings rather than Dark Iceborne Leggings, which take Crystallized Shadow. Ten make an Eternal Water. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather The Ruby Sanctum (raid), Dragonblight Skinning. The best spot: set the legacy raid size to 25-player, which has more mobs, and kill the trash in two batches so the corpses do not vanish before you skin them. Leave Baltharus the Warborn and Saviana Ragefire alive, or the raid cannot be reset; up to ten resets an hour.
Gather Wooly Rhino Matriarchs and Calves around Warsong Hold, Borean Tundra Skinning. Where to go once the instance limit is used up: the rhino packs north and south of Warsong Hold come back quickly, and the northern side is the better one.
Gather Gundrak (dungeon, Normal), Zul'Drak Skinning. Kill only the Unyielding Constrictors in the first part, run out and reset, about three or four minutes a run; the Gundrak Raptors outside often give two or three leather each while you wait out the limit.
Needs Skinning; learn Northrend Skinning (Derik Marks in Northrend's Dalaran) or you get fewer. Skinning also gives Borean Leather Scraps: leatherworkers should turn them into leather with the trainer's recipe, which gives skill points, not by right-clicking them. Leatherworking needs 1,982, 1,800 of them for 300 Heavy Borean Leather at six each; Engineering 14. Easy to buy, too.
  • 390 × Saronite Bar
Craft Any forge Smelt Saronite, learned at Northrend Mining 25, makes one bar from every two Saronite Ore. From 2 × Saronite Ore (Mining).
Gather Saronite Deposits across the zone, Wintergrasp Mining. The best zone between battles; the battle comes round every hour and grounds flying mounts while it lasts, so mine Sholazar Basin next door until it is over.
Gather Saronite Deposits across the zone, Icecrown Mining. A good zone with a route that is easy to follow.
Needs Mining; learn Northrend Mining first (Jedidiah Handers in Northrend's Dalaran, or the trainers in Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord), or the nodes give much less ore. Rare Titanium Veins turn up among the Saronite. Blacksmithing needs 721 bars, which is 1,442 ore, and Engineering 390. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft From your bags, Northrend Using ten Crystallized Shadow turns them into one Eternal Shadow; no profession is needed. Farm the Crystallized Shadow in one of the two places below. From 10 × Crystallized Shadow (Combine (no profession)).
Farm Deathbringer Revenants in the Frostmourne Cavern, Dragonblight The best source of Crystallized Shadow: the cave always holds four revenants, and each one killed is replaced at once.
Farm Wandering Shadows, Wintergrasp The second spot. While your faction holds Wintergrasp, Shadow Revenants here drop one to three Crystallized Shadow each.
Frozo the Renowned in Northrend's Dalaran (not the Broken Isles one) trades one Eternal Shadow for one Frozen Orb, and the orbs cost 75 gold from Arcanist Ivrenne in the Silver Enclave (Alliance) or Magistrix Lambriesse in Sunreaver's Sanctuary (Horde). Leatherworking needs 50, for ten Trollwoven Girdles; Engineering lists nine, though its steps use seven (five Mechanized Snow Goggles, two for the Wormhole Generator: Northrend); Jewelcrafting 23 only if it makes Shadowmight Rings instead of Stoneguard Bands. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft From your bags, Northrend Using ten Crystallized Water turns them into one Eternal Water; no profession is needed. Farm the Crystallized Water in one of the two places below. From 10 × Crystallized Water (Combine (no profession)).
Farm Boiling Spirits around their pool, Borean Tundra The best source of Crystallized Water: five or six spirits are always at the pool, and they come back as fast as they die.
Farm Halls of Lightning, The Storm Peaks Pull each room into one fight up to the room before the second boss, then step out, reset from your portrait and go again, up to ten times an hour. Slightly fewer than the pool but much less work, and Crystallized Fire comes with it.
Frozo the Renowned in Northrend's Dalaran (not the Broken Isles one) trades one Eternal Water for one Frozen Orb, and the orbs cost 75 gold from Arcanist Ivrenne in the Silver Enclave (Alliance) or Magistrix Lambriesse in Sunreaver's Sanctuary (Horde). Leatherworking needs 18, for Overcast Bracers and Overcast Handwraps; Engineering two, for the Wormhole Generator: Northrend. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft From your bags, Northrend Using ten Crystallized Fire turns them into one Eternal Fire; no profession is needed. Farm the Crystallized Fire in one of the two places below. From 10 × Crystallized Fire (Combine (no profession)).
Farm Halls of Lightning, The Storm Peaks Pull each room into one fight, loot, and move on; after the room before the second boss, step out, reset from your portrait and go again, up to ten times an hour. Slightly fewer Crystallized Fire than the cave below, but far less effort, and Crystallized Water drops here too.
Farm Frostfloe Deep, The Storm Peaks The guide's best spot for Crystallized Fire: this cave always has a few Wailing Winds standing in it, so there is never a wait.
Frozo the Renowned in Northrend's Dalaran (not the Broken Isles one) trades one Eternal Fire for one Frozen Orb, and the orbs cost 75 gold from Arcanist Ivrenne in the Silver Enclave (Alliance) or Magistrix Lambriesse in Sunreaver's Sanctuary (Horde). Leatherworking needs 50, for ten Trollwoven Girdles; Engineering two, for the Wormhole Generator: Northrend; Alchemy five only if it picks Transmute: Earthsiege Diamond. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft From your bags, Northrend Using ten Crystallized Air turns them into one Eternal Air; no profession is needed. Farm the Crystallized Air in one of the two places below. From 10 × Crystallized Air (Combine (no profession)).
Farm Enraged Tempests, Borean Tundra The best source of Crystallized Air: a few of them are always up, so you can keep killing without a pause.
Farm Altar Wardens, Zul'Drak Spread far apart and slow to come back, but each one often drops three or four Crystallized Air.
Frozo the Renowned in Northrend's Dalaran (not the Broken Isles one) trades one Eternal Air for one Frozen Orb, and the orbs cost 75 gold from Arcanist Ivrenne in the Silver Enclave (Alliance) or Magistrix Lambriesse in Sunreaver's Sanctuary (Horde). Engineering needs two, for the Wormhole Generator: Northrend; Alchemy five only if it picks Transmute: Skyflare Diamond. Blacksmithing's three are really its 30 Crystallized Air for Deadly Saronite Dirks, so keep that Crystallized Air as it drops instead of combining it. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Any forge Miners learn Smelt Titanium from the Northrend Mining trainer; it makes one bar from every two Titanium Ore. From 2 × Titanium Ore (Mining).
Gather Titanium Veins among the Saronite Deposits, Wintergrasp Mining. Titanium Veins are rare and only turn up where Saronite Deposits grow, in Icecrown and the Storm Peaks as well, but most often here; mine all the Saronite between battles, since the hourly battle grounds flying mounts.
Craft Alchemy: Transmute: Titanium An alchemist turns eight Saronite Bars into one Titanium Bar, with no cooldown since patch 3.3; the recipe comes from the trainer. From 8 × Saronite Bar (Alchemy).
Smelting needs Mining. Engineering needs only eight, for the Wormhole Generator: Northrend at 74 to 75, which is 16 ore. Easy to buy, too.

  • Craft Any forge Mining's Smelt Obsidium turns every two Obsidium Ore into one bar. From 2 × Obsidium Ore (Mining).
Gather Obsidium Deposits, Mount Hyjal Mining. Mount Hyjal is the best land zone for Obsidium; fly a lap of it and smelt what you gather.
Gather Obsidium Deposits, Shimmering Expanse Just as good: the route here is easy to follow and the deposits come back quickly enough that you never wait. The Abyssal Depths are nearly as rich if the Expanse is busy.
Smelting needs Mining. Blacksmithing needs 390, for 195 Folded Obsidium at two bars each, which is 780 ore; Engineering needs 60, for 30 Handful of Obsidium Bolts. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm The Vortex Pinnacle (normal), Uldum The best spot for a max-level character: set the difficulty to normal, fly up to the entrance high in Uldum's south-east, kill everything up to the second boss, Altairus, then jump off the edge to land back at the start. Leave, reset and go again, up to ten runs an hour.
Farm Scions of Al'Akir, Uldum There are many and they respawn quickly, but only about one in eight drops it. Talk to Zidormi at Ramkahen first, or you see the later Uldum without them.
Engineering needs 30 for 15 Electrified Ether before 45; Jewelcrafting 40 only if it makes Vicious Sapphire Necklaces at 70 to 75. An engineer with a gathering profession also gets it from an Electrostatic Condenser. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Any forge Mining's Smelt Elementium makes one bar from every two Elementium Ore. From 2 × Elementium Ore (Mining).
Gather Elementium Deposits, Twilight Highlands Mining. The best Elementium zone; the occasional Pyrite Deposit spawns in place of an Elementium one.
Gather Elementium Deposits, Uldum The second zone, for when Twilight Highlands is crowded. Zidormi at Ramkahen switches you from the newer Uldum a max-level character sees to the old one.
Smelting needs Mining. Blacksmithing needs 340, including 20 to buy a Vicious Pyrium Belt plan, and 20 more if you smelt its two Hardened Elementium Bars yourself; Engineering needs 360, 300 of them for Lure Master Tackle Boxes. That is some 700 ore for either profession. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Pools of Fire in the lava, Twilight Highlands Fishing, at any skill. The pools are rings of flame on the lava, two at most at a time from four spawn points, each good for two to four casts of one or two Volatile Fire; between pools, kill the Enslaved Infernos nearby, which drop it 14% of the time. Mount Hyjal has Pools of Fire too. over 100 an hour.
Farm Flame Ascendants, Mount Hyjal Eight or nine of them spawn close together, have little health and return quickly; gather the lot, kill them and circle back as they reappear.
Farm Unbound Emberfiends, Twilight Highlands The mob spot to use instead of the pools when other players have them.
The most-wanted Cataclysm volatile: Leatherworking needs 112, Blacksmithing 150 (or Volatile Water instead, or a mix), Jewelcrafting's Vicious Sapphire Necklace 20 and Engineering 15. Pools refill in about 12 to 15 minutes. Flame Terrors and Brimstone Destroyers in Mount Hyjal drop it as well, but appear only after the Guardians of Hyjal: Firelands Invasion! quests. Easy to buy, too.

  • Craft Any forge Smelt Ghost Iron, taught from Pandaria Mining 1, turns two Ghost Iron Ore into one bar, so the Blacksmithing guide's 595 bars take about 1,190 ore and the Engineering guide's 406 about 810. From 2 × Ghost Iron Ore (Mining).
Gather Ghost Iron Deposits across the zone, Valley of the Four Winds Mining. The best zone for the ore; Rich Ghost Iron Deposits give more per node, and now and then a deposit turns out to be Trillium.
Gather Ghost Iron Deposits across the zone, The Jade Forest Nearly as good; Townlong Steppes is a third choice where you will rarely meet another miner.
Smelting needs Mining. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Ik'thik mantid packs, Dread Wastes From about 58, 48 towards the Valley of the Four Winds stand five packs of eight Ik'thik Warriors, each with an Ik'thik Slayer: pull a whole pack at a time. They return three minutes after you kill them; meanwhile, tag the warriors that fly over the wall by Jonathan Jacobsen.
Farm Sra'vess, Townlong Steppes The mantid around Sra'vess are the next best thing to the Dread Wastes packs.
Farm Howlingwind Cavern, Kun-Lai Summit Mischievous Snow Sprites fill the cave, and the Suspicious Snow Piles open into more when you walk over them or hit them with area damage.
Cloth Scavenging works on Pandaria mobs as well; tailors learn it from Charles Worth's quest in Northrend Dalaran. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm Heart of Fear (Raid Finder), Dread Wastes Queue through Lorewalker Han, up on the second level of the Seat of Knowledge above Mogu'shan Palace in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Clear the trash of the first two rooms but leave the first boss, then leave the group, reset and go again; a clear takes about two minutes. 8 to 14 Motes of Harmony a run.
Craft From your bags, Pandaria Ten Motes of Harmony combine into one Spirit; no profession is needed. Every mob in Pandaria can drop Motes, dungeon mobs included. From 10 × Mote of Harmony (Combine (no profession)).
    Easy to buy, too.

Estimated materials

Added up from the guide's steps. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • 24 × Blackrock Ore, 24 × True Iron Ore, 24 × Nagrand Arrowbloom
    • 138 × Blackrock Ore
    • 138 × True Iron Ore
    • Gather Mining loop of the whole zone, Frostfire Ridge Mining. The farming guide's favourite: most deposits stand in the open with nothing guarding them, so a flying loop barely has to stop.
Gather Mining loop of the whole zone, Talador Mining. Rated nearly as high by the same guide, with Shadowmoon Valley a good third.
Gather Garrison mine, Your garrison, Frostfire Ridge (Horde) or Shadowmoon Valley (Alliance) Frostwall Mines or Lunarfall Excavation refills with Draenor ore deposits every day: about 8 at building level 1, 13 at level 2 and 18 at level 3.
Needs Mining. It goes into recipes as ore, with no smelting. Draenor Blacksmithing needs 1960 only if you make Truesteel Grinders rather than Reshapers; Draenor Engineering needs 1050 for 70 Didi's Delicate Assembly at 30 to 100, plus 24 (Stealthman 54) or 138 (Mecha-Blast Rocket) at 1 to 30; Draenor Jewelcrafting needs 450 for Critical Strike, Haste or Versatility Taladite. Ten Blackrock Fragments also combine into one ore. Easy to buy, too.

Needs Mining. It goes into recipes as ore, with no smelting. Draenor Blacksmithing needs 2940 for 98 Truesteel Reshapers, or only 980 if you make Truesteel Grinders, which take 1960 Blackrock Ore as well; Draenor Engineering needs 1050 for 70 Didi's Delicate Assembly at 30 to 100, plus 24 (Stealthman 54) or 138 (Shieldtronic Shield) at 1 to 30; Draenor Jewelcrafting needs 450 for Mastery or Stamina Taladite. Ten True Iron Nuggets also combine into one ore. Easy to buy, too.
    • Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Nagrand (Draenor) Herbalism. Draenor's Nagrand is the only zone it grows in; fly one wide loop of it and pick every node on the way.
Gather Garrison Herb Garden, Your garrison, Frostfire Ridge (Horde) or Shadowmoon Valley (Alliance) A garrison with a Herb Garden grows Nagrand Arrowbloom nodes too, so pick them each time you pass through.
Needs Herbalism. Draenor Engineering needs 24 for 12 Stealthman 54, the guide's usual pick for 1 to 30; Draenor Alchemy needs 162 if you choose Draenic Strength Potion for 2 to 55, and 180 if you choose Draenic Stamina or Draenic Strength Flask for 55 to 100. A node sometimes wakes a Disturbed Podling, which drops the herb when killed. Easy to buy, too.
  • 1,050 × True Iron Ore
Gather Mining loop of the whole zone, Frostfire Ridge Mining. The farming guide's favourite: most deposits stand in the open with nothing guarding them, so a flying loop barely has to stop.
Gather Mining loop of the whole zone, Talador Mining. Rated nearly as high by the same guide, with Shadowmoon Valley a good third.

Legion Engineering 1–100 2 materials

Estimated materials

Added up from the guide's steps. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 140 × Leystone Ore
Gather Mining route, Val'sharah Mining. The guide's main Leystone route, with far less climbing up and down than Highmountain.
Gather Lagoon Basilisks, Azsuna Pull the basilisks together, kill them and mine Leystone from their corpses; they respawn fast enough to keep going without a pause, as long as you have the spot to yourself.
A miner at skill 1 gets as much ore per node as one at 100. Demonsteel Stirrups let you mine without leaving the saddle. Easy to buy, too.
  • Buy Hobart Grapplehammer, Dalaran (Broken Isles) Sold by the engineering vendor next to the Legion Engineering trainer; shift-click to buy them in bulk.
Only Dalaran's engineering vendors sell it, and no recipe makes it. The Legion Engineering guide's 140 Rank 3 Gunpowder Charges take 2,800 (20 each) and 140 Leystone Ore; the guide puts the caps at about 3,200 gold, and the recipe turns green from 90, so a few more may be needed.

Battle for Azeroth Engineering 1–175 6 materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 700 × Monelite Ore
Gather Mining route, Nazmir Mining. The first route in the farming guide. Its inner loop usually grows back in time; if you outpace the veins, widen the circle around the zone.
Gather Mining route, Drustvar Works the same way: an inner loop that mostly keeps up, and a wider one for when you mine faster than it regrows.
Gather Mining route, Stormsong Valley An easy route to follow. A few veins lie underground near the middle of the zone, rarely worth the detour.
Needs Mining; rank 1 is taught by the mining trainer in Dazar'alor or Boralus, who also gives the quests for rank 2 (Lumbering Away, skill 50) and rank 3 (Insufferable Bloodsuckers, skill 145); higher ranks give more per vein. Mined Monelite veins often come back as Storm Silver, which both guides want as well. The ore goes straight into the recipes, with no smelting. Blacksmithing takes 1558; Engineering's 700 leaves out 110 to 145, which needs another 280 to 650 depending on the method chosen. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Monelite mining route, Nazmir Mining. Storm Silver has no spots of its own: a mined Monelite vein comes back as Storm Silver about a third of the time, so mine every vein on a Monelite route. Nazmir's is the farming guide's first.
Gather Monelite mining route, Drustvar Also good; take the wider loop around the zone if you mine faster than the veins grow back.
Gather Monelite mining route, Stormsong Valley An easy route to follow, skipping the few underground veins near the middle.
Needs Mining; rank 1 is taught by the mining trainer in Dazar'alor or Boralus, who also gives the quests for rank 2 (Ritualistic Preparations, skill 50) and rank 3 (Brined Justice, skill 145); higher ranks give more per vein. The farming guide puts the chance of a Monelite vein returning as Storm Silver at 35 to 40 percent. Blacksmithing takes 820, and a few hundred more if you take its other way through 115 to 145; Engineering's 350 leaves out 110 to 145, which needs another 200 to 730 depending on the method chosen. Easy to buy, too.
  • Buy Shuga Blastcaps, Terrace of Crafters, Dazar'alor The Horde's Zandalari Engineering trainer sells it; buy all you need there in one go.
Buy Layla Evenkeel, Tradewinds Market, Boralus The Alliance's Kul Tiran Engineering trainer stocks it as well.
The item itself says it is sold by engineering vendors. The BfA Engineering guide takes about 250 for its bombs and grenades, F.R.I.E.D. and the Organic Discombobulation Grenade.
  • Buy Shuga Blastcaps, Terrace of Crafters, Dazar'alor The Horde's Zandalari Engineering trainer sells it; buy the whole 900 there rather than on the auction house.
Buy Layla Evenkeel, Tradewinds Market, Boralus The Alliance's Kul Tiran Engineering trainer stocks it as well.
The item itself says it is sold by engineering vendors. The BfA Engineering guide takes about 900 for its bombs, Attire Rearrangers, Magical Intrusion Dampeners and Discombobulators.
  • 405 × Osmenite Ore
Gather Osmenite Deposits on the main loop, caves included, Nazjatar Mining. Osmenite is found only in Nazjatar. Fly the main loop and go into every cave on it: some nodes sit too deep inside to show on the map until you are in. The mobs that crowd the zone are no obstacle at max level.
Gather The outer loop, Nazjatar Mining. A second loop through the parts of the zone the first one misses; a little poorer, but useful when others are on the main loop.
Needs Mining. Rank 1 needs skill 140 and is taught by Rolm (Horde) or Instructor Ulooaka (Alliance) in Nazjatar once the zone's first quests are done; rank 2 drops from the rare Avarius, summoned with a Brinestone Pickaxe that Nazjatar mobs drop, and rank 3 comes from a quest item found in the deposits. The BfA guides take 220 for Blacksmithing and 405 for Engineering, and jewelcrafters prospect 100 to 150 for the gems that finish their guide. Easy to buy, too.
  • 55 × Expulsom
Salvage Scrap-o-Matic 1000 (Tradewinds Market) or Shred-Master Mk1 (Terrace of Crafters), Boralus (Alliance) or Dazar'alor (Horde) Feed the scrapper any Battle for Azeroth gear, up to nine pieces at a time; quality makes no difference, so the cheapest route is crafting piles of Tidespray Linen Bracers (Tailoring) or Coarse Leather or Shimmerscale Armguards (Leatherworking) and scrapping them. BfA trinkets, other than crafted ones, always give one. about one for every six pieces scrapped.
Craft Transmute: Expulsom Alchemists with Kul Tiran or Zandalari Alchemy 110 can make five a day; the transmute has its own cooldown, apart from older ones. From 10 × Akunda's Bite, 10 × Winter's Kiss, 3 × Anchor Weed (Alchemy). 5 a day.
Get Profession world quests, Kul Tiras and Zandalar Some profession world quests reward it, and any world quest that rewards a trinket is worth doing, since the trinket scraps into one.
Binds when picked up: it cannot be mailed, so send the crafted gear to the character who needs the Expulsom and scrap it there.

Shadowlands Engineering 1–100 9 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Gather Mining route, Revendreth Mining. Laestrite is in every Shadowlands zone, any deposit being about as likely to be it as the zone's own ore. On the farming guide's Revendreth route the deposits came back so quickly that a short loop was nearly always enough.
Gather Mining route, Bastion Mining. At places five deposits show on the minimap at once, guarded by mobs a max-level character clears on the way. The area holds only friendly mobs and no ore until the Bastion story campaign has moved on far enough.
Needs Mining; Shadowlands ore has no ranks, only skill, and the Shadowlands Gathering glove enchant cuts each node from 3.2 to 1.7 seconds. Blacksmithing needs 360, Engineering 330 and Jewelcrafting 400. Easy to buy, too.
  • 200 × Porous Stone
Gather Mining route, Revendreth Mining. It comes up beside the ore from most ordinary Shadowlands deposits, so mine the Laestrite route in Revendreth, where the farming guide found the deposits returning fastest.
Gather Mining routes, Bastion Mining. Bastion's Laestrite routes, with up to five deposits on the minimap at once, serve as well.
Needs Mining. Some mobs that can be mined, and resource satchels, give it too. The Shadowlands Engineering guide needs 200, ground into 100 Porous Polishing Abrasives for its first 25 points. Easy to buy, too.
  • Buy Distributor Au'sha, Hall of Shapes, Oribos The Inscription supply vendor beside Scribe Au'tehshi, the Shadowlands Inscription trainer.
Buy Distributor Au'burk, Hall of Shapes, Oribos The Engineering supply vendor has a few as well, but only a limited stock that can run out.
Gather Phaedrum Deposits, Ardenweald Mining. Phaedrum and Rich Phaedrum Deposits, found only in Ardenweald, give it with the ore; the farming guide's loop around the middle of the zone gave the most.
The Shadowlands Engineering guide needs 24, for three Precision Lifeforce Inverters at 35–41. Wowpedia says the Shadowlands Inscription vendors sell it, and Au'sha is the one in Oribos.
  • Buy Distributor Au'til, Hall of Shapes, Oribos The blacksmithing supply vendor, about thirty yards west of the trainer Smith Au'berk; he has the Blacksmith Hammer too. Buy the whole amount in one go.
Buy Distributor Au'burk, Hall of Shapes, Oribos The engineering supply vendor stocks it too, beside Machinist's Oil.
Shadowlands Blacksmithing goes through 580, since almost every recipe takes some; Shadowlands Engineering needs 30.
  • Buy Distributor Au'burk, Hall of Shapes, Oribos The Engineering supply vendor near Machinist Au'gur, the Shadowlands Engineering trainer, keeps it in stock along with Luminous Flux.
Its tooltip says Engineering vendors sell it. The guide counts about 30, but most Shadowlands Engineering recipes take some and its steps leave the oil out, so buy a good stack in one go.
  • 15 × Oriblase
Salvage Prospecting Laestrite Ore, Revendreth Jewelcrafters prospect Shadowlands ore five at a time, or twenty with Mass Prospect Laestrite. Laestrite is mined in every Shadowlands zone, and Revendreth's route brought the deposits back fastest.
Salvage Prospecting Solenium, Oxxein, Phaedrum or Sinvyr Ore, Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald and Revendreth Each zone's own ore prospects into gems too; the Jewelcrafting guide mass-prospects 400 Laestrite and 100 of one zone ore and expects that to give every gem it needs.
Prospecting needs Jewelcrafting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The Shadowlands Engineering guide needs 15 for Optical Target Embiggeners, or 30 if it makes Infra-green Reflex Sights instead. The Jewelcrafting guide uses about 36 of its own, for Quick Jewel Doublets and Deadly and Quick Jewel Clusters.
  • 15 × Angerseye
The Shadowlands Engineering guide needs 15, for Optical Target Embiggeners. The Jewelcrafting guide uses about 24 of its own, for Deadly and Masterful Jewel Clusters.
  • Farm Archivam, Revendreth Beleaguered Excavators, Excavation Enforcers, Nefarious Thugs and Nefarious Collectors stand packed together here, so round up the whole dig and AoE it down. Only the Excavators, being neutral, stay put during a mounted round-up.
Farm Tirna Noch, Ardenweald Blighted Fadeblades and Masked Soulsplitters are close enough to drag eight or ten at a time on a mount and burn them down together.
Tailors loot far more of it than other characters, thanks to Shadowlands Cloth Scavenging, even at Shadowlands Tailoring skill 1. Easy to buy, too.
  • 4 × Umbryl
The Shadowlands Engineering guide needs only 4, for two Flexible Ectoplasmic Specs. The Jewelcrafting guide uses about 24 of its own, for Versatile Jewel Doublets and Masterful Jewel Clusters.

  • 125 × Serevite Ore
Gather Serevite Deposits on a mining loop, The Waking Shore, The Azure Span or Ohn'ahran Plains Mining. The common Dragon Isles ore, in deposits everywhere, so any loop through the zones the mining guide routes through fills the bags; Rich deposits give extra ore.
Needs Mining. The guides list one quality rank's item id, but any rank will do: they say quality does not matter for leveling. Blacksmithing needs 650 and Engineering 125, 100 of them for Handfuls of Serevite Bolts. The mining guide does not rank the zones. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Draconium Deposits on a mining loop, The Waking Shore, The Azure Span or Ohn'ahran Plains Mining. Draconium is the less common Dragon Isles ore but is found all over the isles, so any loop through the zones the mining guide routes through gathers it; Rich deposits give extra ore.
Needs Mining. The guides list one quality rank's item id, but any rank will do: they say quality does not matter for leveling. Blacksmithing needs 300, Engineering 42 and Enchanting 3, for a Runed Draconium Rod. The mining guide does not rank the zones. Easy to buy, too.
  • Farm The elemental cave just east of the Obsidian Citadel, The Waking Shore Every mob in the cave can drop it, the patrolling Cindershard Hulks included, so a max-level character clears the cave end to end and goes round again.
Farm Unsettled Rubble and Displaced Earth camp, The Waking Shore Plenty of small earth elementals that come back quickly, though they stand far enough apart that each pull takes some running.
Gather Hardened Serevite Deposits, Dragon Isles Mining. Hardened deposits, and Primal ones at random, give a few alongside the ore, so a miner's loop adds to the pile.
The small fire elementals at the Waking Shore lava pit that gives Rousing Fire drop it too. Ten turn into one Awakened Earth from the bags. Engineering needs 10, two for each Shock-Spring Coil, and Jewelcrafting 5. The farming guide does not name the cave; its map puts it beside the Obsidian Citadel. Easy to buy, too.
  • 185 × Rousing Fire
Farm Provoking Flames north-east of the Obsidian Bulwark, The Waking Shore The flames hyperspawn, so the supply never runs out. Tormented Steam elementals fight them there; kill those too, since they give Rousing Frost.
Farm Ashen Sparks and Destructive Flames around a small lava pit, The Waking Shore Circle the pit killing every fire elemental; the little ones drop Rousing Earth as well.
Gather Molten Serevite Deposits, Dragon Isles Mining. Molten deposits, and Primal ones at random, give a few with the ore.
Ten turn into one Awakened Fire from the bags. Engineering needs 185, 175 of them for 35 Overcharged Overclockers at 50–65, and Jewelcrafting 68, 60 of them for Blotting Sand. The farming guide marks the Provoking Flame spot on a map without naming it. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Handful of Serevite Bolts Engineers learn it from the trainer at Dragon Isles Engineering 1, and it takes four Serevite Ore a craft; the guide's first 15 points are 25 of these. From 4 × Serevite Ore (Engineering).
Crafting needs an Arclight Spanner and a Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor, both sold by Kognir in Valdrakken. The Engineering list counts 120 of them besides the ore for the 25 the guide makes itself; its steps use about 166 in all, so plan on making plenty. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Shock-Spring Coil An Engineering trainer recipe from Dragon Isles Engineering 5, made with the same tools as the bolts; the guide makes a few at 15–21 for the skill. From 2 × Rousing Earth, 5 × Serevite Ore, 2 × Handful of Serevite Bolts (Engineering).
The Engineering list counts 115, 105 of them for 35 Overcharged Overclockers at 50–65; making them all takes a great deal of Rousing Earth and ore. Easy to buy, too.
  • Craft Greased-Up Gears Engineers learn it from the trainer at Dragon Isles Engineering 10 and make it with the usual Arclight Spanner and Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor. From 3 × Rousing Fire, 4 × Draconium Ore, 2 × Handful of Serevite Bolts (Engineering).
The Engineering guide needs only two, for the Draconium Encased Samophlange and Lapidary's Draconium Clamps at 21–29, but never says to make them; two crafts cost 6 Rousing Fire, 8 Draconium Ore and 4 bolts. For 65–100, its two bracer choices want 24 or 36 more; the goggles need none. Easy to buy, too.

Midnight Engineering 1–100 8 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Gather Mining loops, Voidstorm Mining. Every Midnight ore grows in every zone, and Voidstorm has the most deposits; fly round its edge with passes through the middle and take every node you pass.
Gather Southern coast, Zul'Aman Mining. Deposits run thick along Zul'Aman's southern coast. Wild deposits there spawn Rumbling Orelings: kill them and mine the bodies for more ore.
Gather Edge of the zone, Eversong Woods Mining. Plenty of deposits around the zone's rim, and the easiest of the four to fly; one loop round the edge with short detours into the middle.
Needs Mining. Any quality rank will do; the guides say quality does not matter. Blacksmithing smelts it, five to an ingot: 125 for the first 25 ingots, plus 500 if you smelt the 100 ingots the 1–50 crafts need rather than buy them, and 750 more for the 150 ingots of 50–70. Engineering wants 145, for Song Gears and Soul Sprockets; Jewelcrafting 5, and it prospects it too. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Mining loops, Voidstorm Mining. Tin, like every Midnight ore, is found in all the zones, and Voidstorm has the most deposits; circle its edge, cut through the middle and mine all you pass.
Gather Southern coast, Zul'Aman Mining. The southern shore is lined with deposits, and the Rumbling Orelings that Wild deposits release can be killed and mined for still more ore.
Needs Mining. Any quality rank will do; the guides say quality does not matter. Engineering wants 155, for Song Gears and Soul Sprockets; Blacksmithing 6 and Jewelcrafting 5 for first crafts. Jewelcrafters prospect it for Harandar Peridot and Tenebrous Amethyst. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Lightfused herbs and ore deposits, Eversong Woods Herbalism or Mining. Lightfused nodes, glowing and marked on the minimap, nearly all grow in Eversong Woods and always give motes; gathering one scatters light orbs to catch for more. Loop the rivers for herbs or the zone's edge for ore.
Needs Herbalism or Mining; both together double the Lightfused nodes. Overloading a Lightfused node (the Overload ability, learned from your first infused node) throws up far more orbs. A few Lightfused nodes grow in parts of Harandar too. Alchemy wants 12, 10 of them for one Transmute: Mote of Wild Magic, and 80 more for the Light's Potential route to 100; Enchanting 6, Leatherworking 4, Engineering and Inscription 1 each. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Primal herbs, Harandar Herbalism. Primal nodes, which always give these motes, are found almost only in Harandar, and Harandar is the richest herb zone of all, so fly it picking every glowing Primal herb.
Gather Primal ore deposits, Harandar Mining. Primal deposits give the same motes, but Harandar is thin on ore; follow its outer edge, or better still gather herbs there as well.
Needs Herbalism or Mining. A plain Primal gather gives the motes and a slowing damage-over-time; Overloading one (the Overload ability, learned from your first infused node) costs half your health in a channel for extra motes. Alchemy wants 4, for one Composite Flora; Inscription 4, for Codified Azeroot and three Thalassian Missives; Engineering 1. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Wild infused herbs and ore deposits, Zul'Aman Herbalism or Mining. Zul'Aman is where the glowing Wild nodes grow, and each one gives motes; the herbs also call up lashers and the ore Rumbling Orelings, which you kill and gather from for more. Method found the most ore along the zone's southern coast.
Gather Wild Diffuser on any skinnable beast, Any Midnight zone Skinning. Skinners who have unlocked diffusers make one from two motes, throw it at a beast and skin it after the kill for one to four motes back, with no cooldown.
A gatherer's material: no one else gets it in quantity, though the Rumbling Orelings drop it now and then. The Inscription guide wants 7, one for the Codified Azeroot and six for Treatises; the Engineering guide 1. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Voidbound herbs and ore deposits, Voidstorm Herbalism or Mining. Voidbound nodes, which give these motes, are concentrated in Voidstorm, the zone Method found richest in ore; a loop around the edge of the map passes plenty. Overloading a Voidbound node opens a portal with orbs that each give more motes and ore.
Gather Void Diffuser on any skinnable beast, Any Midnight zone Skinning. A skinner with diffusers unlocked turns two motes into a Void Diffuser, throws it at a beast and gets one to four motes back from the skinned corpse.
Voidstorm opens only after most of the Midnight campaign. A few Voidbound nodes also turn up in Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman. The Inscription guide wants 4 (a Soul Cipher and three Missives), Engineering and Leatherworking 1 each. Easy to buy, too.
  • Buy Engineering supplies vendor by the trainer, The Bazaar, Silvermoon City The supplier standing next to Danwe, the Midnight Engineering trainer, on the west side of the Bazaar sells it, along with Pile of Junk and the starter Engineering tools.
The Engineering guide's shopping list wants 21: eight for Song Gears at 1–16 and ten for Soul Sprockets at 25–39, the rest for first crafts. Its example for 45–80, 60 Quel'dorei Guards, takes 60 more.
  • Buy Engineering supplies vendor by the trainer, The Bazaar, Silvermoon City Sold by the Engineering supplier beside Danwe, the Midnight Engineering trainer, on the west side of the Bazaar; buy it with the Malleable Wireframe in one visit.
Not salvaged: the tooltip says vendors sell it. The Engineering guide's shopping list wants 35, enough to make each trainer recipe once, three of them for the Evercore Dome Dinger at 20–25. Its example for 45–80, 60 Quel'dorei Guards, takes 300 more.
