Enchanting leveling materials

For each expansion: the materials a good leveling guide uses, added up, and where a max-level character gets each one. The crafts themselves are in the guide, linked under each list.

Classic Enchanting 1–300 8 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Disenchant Low-level uncommon weapons, Classic starting zones Green items from the first Classic levels disenchant into it or into Strange Dust; weapons give essences far more often than armor does.
Craft From your bags Using a Greater Magic Essence breaks it into three Lesser ones, and three Lesser combine back into a Greater; no profession is needed for either. From 1 × Greater Magic Essence (Split (no profession)).
The guide needs just one, for the Runed Copper Rod at skill 1, so buying it is quickest, which is easy. What to disenchant for it is from game knowledge.
  • 134 × Strange Dust
Disenchant Green armor from low-level Classic dungeons, such as the Deadmines, Westfall Uncommon armor from the first Classic levels breaks down into Strange Dust, while weapons lean towards Magic Essences. A max-level enchanter sweeps through a low dungeon like the Deadmines or Wailing Caverns in a few minutes; disenchant the greens, reset and run it again.
Buy Distributor Au'resh, Oribos The Shadowlands enchanting supplier beside the trainer sells Strange Dust, but in limited stock that refills slowly: fine for a handful, nowhere near the guide's 134.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Which gear gives it, and the dungeons named, are from game knowledge; the item's tooltip says nothing about where it comes from.
  • Disenchant Green weapons from low-level Classic dungeons, such as the Deadmines, Westfall Uncommon weapons from the first Classic levels give Magic Essences far more often than armor does. Each sweep of a low dungeon like the Deadmines or Wailing Caverns turns up a few, along with plenty of Strange Dust.
Craft From your bags Using three Lesser Magic Essences fuses them into one Greater, and a Greater splits back into three; no profession is needed. From 3 × Lesser Magic Essence (no profession).
The guide needs only ten, for the Greater Magic Wands at 100 to 110, so buying them is quickest, which is easy. Which gear gives it is from game knowledge.
  • Buy Enchanting supply or General Goods vendor, Any capital city The enchanting supplier standing near every enchanting trainer sells it, and so does any General Goods vendor; pick up the ten the Greater Magic Wands need in one stop.
  • Craft From your bags Using a Greater Eternal Essence splits it into three Lesser ones, so seven Greater cover the twenty this guide wants; you collect 120 Greater for the later steps anyway. Three Lesser also fuse back into a Greater. From 1 × Greater Eternal Essence (no profession).
Disenchant Green weapons from the top Classic dungeons, such as Blackrock Depths, Blackrock Mountain Uncommon weapons from the last Classic levels disenchant into Eternal Essences of both sizes, so the Blackrock Depths runs that feed the Greater ones bring these too.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Which gear gives it is from game knowledge; Wowhead's tooltip shows only the three-for-one exchange.
  • Disenchant Zul'Farrak, Tanaris Green armor from the middle Classic levels breaks down into Light Illusion Dust. Zul'Farrak is full of trolls, and its staircase event sends dozens at you in one wave, just right for a max-level character; disenchant the greens and reset.
Craft From your bags Using one Rich Illusion Dust splits it into three Light, so the top-dungeon runs that gather Rich Illusion Dust can cover this step as well; the guide reckons 76 Rich in place of 225 Light. From 1 × Rich Illusion Dust (no profession).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Which gear gives it, and Zul'Farrak, are from game knowledge; Wowhead's tooltip shows only the exchange with Rich Illusion Dust (three Light make one Rich).
  • Disenchant Blackrock Depths, Blackrock Mountain Green armor from the last Classic levels breaks down into Rich Illusion Dust, and the weapons into Greater Eternal Essence, so the same Blackrock Depths clears fill both. Disenchant every green, reset and go again.
Disenchant Stratholme, Eastern Plaguelands Just as good: both halves of the city are crowded with mobs to round up, and the greens give the same dust.
Craft From your bags Using three Light Illusion Dust fuses them into one Rich, and one Rich splits back into three Light; no profession is needed. From 3 × Light Illusion Dust (no profession).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Which gear gives it, and the dungeons named, are from game knowledge; Wowhead's tooltip shows only the three-for-one exchange.
  • Disenchant Blackrock Depths, Blackrock Mountain Green weapons from the last Classic levels disenchant into Eternal Essences. Blackrock Depths is crammed with Dark Iron dwarves and bosses and is the same clear that farms Runecloth: break down every green, reset the instance and go again.
Disenchant Stratholme, Eastern Plaguelands The other big top-level Classic dungeon; both halves are packed with mobs to pull together, and its greens give the same essences.
Craft From your bags Using three Lesser Eternal Essences fuses them into one Greater, and a Greater splits back into three; no profession is needed. From 3 × Lesser Eternal Essence (no profession).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Which gear gives it, and the dungeons named, are from game knowledge; Wowhead's tooltip shows only the three-for-one exchange.

The Burning Crusade Enchanting 1–75 6 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 630 × Arcane Dust
Disenchant Uncommon Outland gear, Outland Green armour and weapons from Outland break down into it. Clear Outland dungeons, whose trash and bosses drop greens, and keep the greens from any Outland farm, such as the Mana-Tombs runs for Netherweave Cloth.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Outland Enchanting needs 638 and the Scryers route of Outland Blacksmithing 256. That greens give it and that the dungeons are the place to collect them is from game knowledge; Wowpedia says only that Outland gear disenchants into it.
  • Gather Herb loop of the whole valley, Shadowmoon Valley (Outland) Herbalism. Practically the only place to farm it: it grows in the open and tucked between rocks all over the valley.
Gather Herb loop of the whole zone, Blade's Edge Mountains Herbalism. Only two or three nodes, but the same loop fills Felweed and Dreaming Glory, so pick it up on the way.
Needs Herbalism. Alchemy needs 40 and Enchanting 15, one for each Superior Wizard Oil. Easy to buy, too.
  • Disenchant Uncommon gear from early Outland, Hellfire Peninsula Green items made for the start of Outland (levels 57 to 63 in the original game) break down into it. Keep and disenchant every green from Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh and the Hellfire Citadel dungeons.
Craft From your bags Using a Greater Planar Essence splits it into three Lesser; no profession is needed. So the greens of later Outland serve too. From 1 × Greater Planar Essence (Combine (no profession)).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The guide needs 20, with five Large Prismatic Shards, for the 35 to 40 step. The level bands are from Warcraft Tavern's TBC Classic disenchanting table; the zones and dungeons named are from game knowledge.
  • Disenchant Mana-Tombs, Terokkar Forest Green items made for the later Outland levels (64 to 70 in the original game) break down into it. The Mana-Tombs is the best Netherweave Cloth dungeon, so disenchant the greens from each clear, reset from your portrait and go again, up to ten times an hour.
Craft From your bags Using three Lesser Planar Essences fuses them into one Greater; no profession is needed. From 3 × Lesser Planar Essence (Combine (no profession)).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The guide needs 25, with 300 Arcane Dust, for Major Strength at 50 to 69. The level bands are from Warcraft Tavern's TBC Classic disenchanting table; that the Mana-Tombs' greens fall in the upper band is from game knowledge.
  • Disenchant Rare gear from the top Outland dungeons, Outland Blue items made for the end of Burning Crusade leveling break down into it. Run the last Outland dungeons, such as the Botanica and Mechanar in Tempest Keep, Shattered Halls or Shadow Labyrinth, and disenchant every blue the bosses drop.
Craft Formula: Large Prismatic Shard An enchanter can fuse three Small Prismatic Shards into one with a Runed Fel Iron Rod; Madame Ruby in Shattrath sells the formula, as do Lyna in Silvermoon and Egomis in the Exodar. From 3 × Small Prismatic Shard (Enchanting).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it. Wowpedia ties it to rare gear of item level 100 to 115, the old level 65 to 70 gear; which dungeons drop that gear, and that blues from the earlier Outland dungeons give Small Prismatic Shards, is from game knowledge. Outland Enchanting needs only 5, but the Scryers route of Outland Blacksmithing needs 54.
  • Disenchant Karazhan, Deadwind Pass Epic Outland gear breaks down into Void Crystals. Karazhan has more bosses than any other Burning Crusade raid, each dropping epics, and a max-level character clears it alone.
Disenchant Gruul's Lair and Magtheridon's Lair, Blade's Edge Mountains and Hellfire Peninsula Two short raids, a few minutes each, whose bosses also drop epics to disenchant.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The guide's Void Sphere at 69 to 70 takes two; its shopping list counts twelve, enough for a Void Sphere on each cooldown up to 75. Raids lock weekly. Warcraft Tavern's TBC Classic table puts Void Crystal with the top Outland level band; that raid epics are the source, and the raids named, are from game knowledge.

Wrath of the Lich King Enchanting 1–75 4 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Disenchant Uncommon Northrend gear, Northrend Green Northrend armour and weapons break down into it. Clear Northrend dungeons, whose trash and bosses drop greens, and keep the greens from any Northrend farm, such as the one-pull Pit of Saron runs for Frostweave Cloth.
Craft Abyssal Shatter An enchanter can shatter an Abyss Crystal into Infinite Dust (about seven to ten) or Greater Cosmic Essence instead; the guide already shatters twenty at 15 to 30, so keep what they give. From 1 × Abyss Crystal (Enchanting).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Northrend Enchanting needs 310: 120 for Enchant Gloves - Haste at 30 to 40, 40 for Greater Versatility at 45 to 55, and 75 each for Crusher and Mighty Stamina; taking Shadow Armor at 65 to 75 adds 120 more. Wowpedia ties it to greens of item level 121 to 200 in the old numbering; which dungeons to run is from game knowledge.
  • Disenchant Uncommon gear from the level-80 Northrend dungeons, Northrend Greens made for the end of Wrath leveling break down into it. The Pit of Saron, cleared in one pull for Frostweave Cloth and reset up to ten times an hour, drops such greens, as do the other level-80 dungeons.
Craft Abyssal Shatter An enchanter can shatter an Abyss Crystal into about three Greater Cosmic Essences, or into Infinite Dust instead; the guide's twenty shatters at 15 to 30 feed its later steps. From 1 × Abyss Crystal (Enchanting).
Craft From your bags Using three Lesser Cosmic Essences fuses them into one Greater; no profession is needed. From 3 × Lesser Cosmic Essence (Combine (no profession)).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The guide's 45 are 15 for Gatherer gloves at 1 to 15, 20 for Precision at 40 to 45 and 10 for Mighty Stamina at 60 to 65. On top of that, the 40 Lesser Cosmic Essences for Greater Versatility at 45 to 55 come from splitting 14 Greater ones (each splits into three), and Enchant Cloak - Wisdom at 65 to 75 takes 60 more if you pick it over Shadow Armor. Wowpedia ties it to greens of item level 152 to 200 in the old numbering; that the Pit of Saron's greens fall in that range is from game knowledge.
  • Disenchant Rare gear from the level-80 Northrend dungeons, Northrend Blue items from the end of Wrath leveling break down into Dream Shards, and the bosses of the level-80 dungeons drop blues. The guide needs only eight, so a few quick clears are enough.
Craft From your bags Using three Small Dream Shards combines them into one Dream Shard; the small ones come from blues of the earlier Northrend levels. From 3 × Small Dream Shard (Combine (no profession)).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The guide spends its 8 as currency: Vanessa Sellers in Northrend's Dalaran (not the Broken Isles one) sells Formula: Enchant Cloak - Mighty Stamina for 4, and Shadow Armor or Wisdom for 4 more. Wowpedia ties it to rare items of level 165 and up in the old numbering, with a small chance from greens of 152 and up; which dungeons, and where Small Dream Shards come from, is from game knowledge.
  • Disenchant Naxxramas, Dragonblight Epic level-80 gear breaks down into Abyss Crystals. Naxxramas has fifteen bosses, each dropping epics, and a max-level character clears it alone without trouble.
Disenchant Ulduar and Icecrown Citadel, The Storm Peaks and Icecrown Two more long Wrath raids whose bosses drop epics, for when Naxxramas is locked for the week.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The guide needs 30: 20 for Abyssal Shatter at 15 to 30, which breaks each into Greater Cosmic Essence or Infinite Dust for the later steps, and 10 for Shadow Armor or Wisdom at 65 to 75. Raids lock weekly. Wowpedia says only that level-80 epics give it; the raids named are from game knowledge.

Cataclysm Enchanting 1–75 3 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Disenchant Uncommon Cataclysm gear Green Cataclysm armour breaks into it three times in four, one to five at once; weapons give it less often. Clear Cataclysm dungeons, whose trash drops greens, and keep every green from the other Cataclysm farms, such as the Bastion of Twilight runs for Embersilk Cloth or the Vortex Pinnacle runs for Volatile Air. 1 to 5 from 75% of green armour.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is the sensible way to the 591 the Cataclysm Enchanting guide burns through, some in every step and 170 for Enchant Boots - Mastery at 65 to 75 alone. The same greens give Celestial Essences, which the guide also needs. The rates are from Wowpedia's disenchanting table, written before Battle for Azeroth; which places to run is from game knowledge.
  • Disenchant Uncommon Cataclysm gear A quarter of green Cataclysm armour and most green weapons give a Celestial Essence instead of dust, so the greens kept for Hypnotic Dust bring these along: clear Cataclysm dungeons and break every green from the other Cataclysm farms.
Craft From your bags Using a Greater Celestial Essence splits it into three Lesser; no profession is needed. From 1 × Greater Celestial Essence (Split (no profession)).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The guide needs only five, for Enchant Gloves - Haste at 10 to 15, so splitting two Greater Celestial Essences covers it. The rates are from Wowpedia's disenchanting table, written before Battle for Azeroth; which places to run is from game knowledge.
  • Disenchant Uncommon Cataclysm gear Green Cataclysm gear gives an essence instead of dust a quarter of the time for armour and most of the time for weapons, so keep the weapons above all. Clear Cataclysm dungeons and break every green from the other Cataclysm farms.
Craft From your bags Using three Lesser Celestial Essences fuses them into one Greater; no profession is needed, so the Lesser ones that drop count too. From 3 × Lesser Celestial Essence (Combine (no profession)).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is the sensible way to this many. The guide's shopping list says 106, but its steps add up to 126: 10 each at 25 to 30, 30 to 35, 35 to 40 and 45 to 55, 20 at 55 to 60, 15 at 60 to 65 and 51 for Enchant Boots - Mastery at 65 to 75. The rates are from Wowpedia's disenchanting table, written before Battle for Azeroth; which places to run is from game knowledge.

Mists of Pandaria Enchanting 1–75 2 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 208 × Spirit Dust
Disenchant Uncommon Pandaria gear, Pandaria Green Pandaria armour above all breaks down into it. Keep every green from your Pandaria farms, such as the Ik'thik mantid packs in the Dread Wastes for Windwool Cloth, and from Pandaria dungeons cleared in one go.
Buy Danky (Horde) or Krystel (Alliance), Spirit of Harmony vendors, Shrine of Two Moons or Shrine of Seven Stars, Vale of Eternal Blossoms One Spirit of Harmony buys 20. Ten Motes of Harmony make a Spirit, and two-minute trash runs of Heart of Fear on Raid Finder give 8 to 14 motes each, so eleven Spirits for the guide take about ten runs.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it. Pandaria Enchanting needs 208: 176 for 44 Enchant Chest - Mighty Versatility (1 to 40) and 32 for 16 Enchant Boots - Greater Haste (40 to 55). An enchanter's Mysterious Diffusion turns one Mysterious Essence into three, and Magebulb Seeds at Sunsong Ranch grow some as well. Which farms and dungeons to take greens from is from game knowledge. Easy to buy, too.
  • Buy Danky (Horde) or Krystel (Alliance), Spirit of Harmony vendors, Shrine of Two Moons or Shrine of Seven Stars, Vale of Eternal Blossoms One Spirit of Harmony buys five, a better trade than the 20 Spirit Dust it would otherwise fetch. Ten Motes of Harmony make a Spirit, and two-minute trash runs of Heart of Fear on Raid Finder give 8 to 14 motes each.
Disenchant Uncommon Pandaria gear, Pandaria Green Pandaria items give it now and then beside the Spirit Dust; keep the greens from every Pandaria farm and dungeon you clear.
Craft Mysterious Essence (Enchanting) An enchanter fuses five Spirit Dust into one, the way to use up spare dust from disenchanting. From 5 × Spirit Dust (Enchanting).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it. Pandaria Enchanting needs 76: 16 for 16 Enchant Boots - Greater Haste (40 to 55) and 60 for 20 Enchant Gloves - Superior Mastery (55 to 75), which takes about sixteen Spirits of Harmony bought outright. Ethereal Shatter turns one Ethereal Shard into three. Which farms and dungeons to take greens from is from game knowledge. Easy to buy, too.

Warlords of Draenor Enchanting 1–100 1 material

Estimated materials

Added up from the guide's steps. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 180 × Draenic Dust
Disenchant Draenor armour and weapons, Draenor Most Draenor gear breaks into it. Keep the greens that drop on any Draenor beast farm, such as the meat and fur packs, and disenchant them as you go.
Disenchant Draenor dungeons, Draenor A max-level character clears a Draenor dungeon in one sweep, and the greens it drops break into dust too.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The Draenor Enchanting guide needs 180 for 180 Enchanted Dust, one each, and the recipe turns green for the last 25 points, so keep some spare. Wowpedia says most Draenor items give it; running Draenor dungeons for them is from game knowledge.

Legion Enchanting 1–100 2 materials

Estimated materials

Added up from the guide's steps. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Disenchant Emerald Nightmare and the Nighthold on Raid Finder, Broken Isles Queue with Archmage Timear in Dalaran for the three Emerald Nightmare wings and the first Nighthold wing and solo all ten bosses. Legacy loot gives five items a boss, and the epics disenchant into Chaos Crystals. about 50 in 20 to 30 minutes.
Disenchant The same raids on Normal and Heroic, Broken Isles Set the raid difficulty and clear Emerald Nightmare and the Nighthold again on Normal, then Heroic. Trial of Valor works too, though its first fight is slow; leave Tomb of Sargeras and Antorus for last, as they take far longer.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The Legion Enchanting guide takes 55 for Chaos Shatter, which splits each crystal into two Leylight Shards, and 120 more for the rank 3 ring Bindings at 70–100.
  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • 30 × Rank 3 - Binding of Critical Strike: 120 × Chaos Crystal, 1,050 × Arkhana
    • 30 × Rank 3 - Binding of Haste: 120 × Chaos Crystal, 1,050 × Arkhana
    • 30 × Rank 3 - Binding of Mastery: 120 × Chaos Crystal, 1,050 × Arkhana
    • 30 × Rank 3 - Binding of Versatility: 120 × Chaos Crystal, 1,050 × Arkhana
    • Disenchant Legion raids on Raid Finder, Broken Isles An enchanter can solo the Emerald Nightmare and the Nighthold, queued with Archmage Timear in Dalaran; legacy loot gives five items a boss, and they disenchant into Chaos Crystals. Chaos Shatter splits each crystal into two Leylight Shards and Ley Shatter each shard into three Arkhana.
Craft Ley Shatter, Dalaran (Broken Isles) Enchanters break one Leylight Shard into three Arkhana. Ildine Sorrowspear, beside the Legion enchanting trainer, sells the formula; Chaos Shatter, the step before, comes from Toraan the Revered once you are Friendly with the Argussian Reach. From 1 × Leylight Shard (Enchanting).
Disenchant Uncommon Legion gear, Broken Isles Green items from the Broken Isles disenchant straight into Arkhana, so keep the ones that drop while farming Legion cloth, ore or leather.
Disenchanting and shattering need Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. That Legion greens give Arkhana is from game knowledge, not from the guides cited.

Battle for Azeroth Enchanting 1–175 1 material

Estimated materials

Added up from the guide's steps. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • One of these, whichever is cheapest for you:
    • The usual route: 734 × Umbra Shard, 3,850 × Gloom Dust, 222 × Veiled Crystal
    • The Expulsom route: 687 × Umbra Shard, 3,139 × Gloom Dust, 25 × Veiled Crystal, 87 × Expulsom, 12 × Mark of Honor
    • Disenchant Rare gear from BfA dungeons, Kul Tiras and Zandalar Blue Battle for Azeroth items disenchant into it, and the bosses of Atal'Dazar, Freehold and the other BfA dungeons drop them; a max-level enchanter clears each in a few minutes.
Craft Veiled Shatter Enchanters from BfA skill 85 split one Veiled Crystal into two Umbra Shards, handy when raid epics leave you with spare crystals. From 1 × Veiled Crystal (Enchanting).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. That blue BfA gear gives it, and the dungeons named, are from game knowledge. The BfA Enchanting guide wants 734, or 687 on its Expulsom route.
    • Disenchant Uncommon BfA gear, Kul Tiras and Zandalar Green Battle for Azeroth items break down into it, so keep and disenchant every green that drops while you farm BfA mobs for meat, leather or cloth.
Craft Umbra Shatter Enchanters from BfA skill 40 split one Umbra Shard into three Gloom Dust, so the shards from dungeon blues can cover a shortfall. From 1 × Umbra Shard (Enchanting).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. That green BfA gear gives it is from game knowledge. The BfA Enchanting guide wants 3,850, or 3,139 on its Expulsom route, far more than a few evenings of greens give, so buying most of it is the realistic plan.
    • Disenchant Uldir and Battle of Dazar'alor, Zandalar Epic Battle for Azeroth items disenchant into it. A max-level enchanter solos both raids, and legacy loot drops several items from each boss.
Disenchant The Eternal Palace, Nazjatar The later BfA raid gives the same crystals; clear it after the other two, on each difficulty in turn.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. That epic BfA gear gives it, and the raids named, are from game knowledge. The BfA Enchanting guide's normal route wants 222, its Expulsom route only 25. Veiled Shatter splits a crystal into two Umbra Shards.
    • Salvage Scrap-o-Matic 1000 (Tradewinds Market) or Shred-Master Mk1 (Terrace of Crafters), Boralus (Alliance) or Dazar'alor (Horde) Feed the scrapper any Battle for Azeroth gear, up to nine pieces at a time; quality makes no difference, so the cheapest route is crafting piles of Tidespray Linen Bracers (Tailoring) or Coarse Leather or Shimmerscale Armguards (Leatherworking) and scrapping them. BfA trinkets, other than crafted ones, always give one. about one for every six pieces scrapped.
Craft Transmute: Expulsom Alchemists with Kul Tiran or Zandalari Alchemy 110 can make five a day; the transmute has its own cooldown, apart from older ones. From 10 × Akunda's Bite, 10 × Winter's Kiss, 3 × Anchor Weed (Alchemy). 5 a day.
Get Profession world quests, Kul Tiras and Zandalar Some profession world quests reward it, and any world quest that rewards a trinket is worth doing, since the trinket scraps into one.
Binds when picked up: it cannot be mailed, so send the crafted gear to the character who needs the Expulsom and scrap it there.
    • Buy Orboreal Distinguishment from Purveyor Zo'kuul, Oribos The quickest way: earn honor in battlegrounds or arenas, then trade 2,000 honor for a box of five marks. The guide's twelve take three boxes. 5 marks per 2,000 honor.
Get Battleground win crates, Battlegrounds Most crates of battlefield goods handed out for winning a battleground hold a mark, so the same wins that earn the honor pay a little extra.
Binds to the Warband, so marks earned on an alt can be sent over. Only the BfA Enchanting guide's Expulsom route uses them, 12 in all, to buy the rank 2 and 3 Sorcerous Scepter formulas; its normal route needs none.

The guide gives two routes: the usual one, or one that swaps most Veiled Crystals for Expulsom and Marks of Honor. Pick one column.

Shadowlands Enchanting 1–115 3 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • 208 × Soul Dust
Disenchant Green Shadowlands gear, Shadowlands Every uncommon Shadowlands item disenchants into Soul Dust: the green pieces Shadowlands Tailoring and the other crafts make while leveling, and any greens that drop while you farm the Shadowlands zones.
Craft Sacred Shard Shatter, Oribos Shatter a Sacred Shard from dungeon blues into three Soul Dust. The formula is sold by Liawyn in Oribos and Aithlyn in Ardenweald once you are Honored with the Wild Hunt. From 1 × Sacred Shard (Enchanting). 3 per shard.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. Disenchanting gives skill points itself up to 25, so the gear left over from leveling covers the start. The Shadowlands Enchanting guide reckons on about 208; that leaves out the 30 for its optional first step.
  • 142 × Sacred Shard
Disenchant Shadowlands dungeons on Normal, Shadowlands Rare (blue) Shadowlands items disenchant into Sacred Shards, and that is what the Shadowlands dungeons drop on Normal. A max-level character clears one in minutes; reset it and go again.
Craft Eternal Crystal Shatter, Oribos Imbuer Au'vresh, the trainer in Oribos, teaches it at skill 70: each Eternal Crystal from the Shadowlands raids breaks into three Sacred Shards. From 1 × Eternal Crystal (Enchanting). 3 per crystal.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The Shadowlands Enchanting guide needs about 142, 54 of them for 18 Tenets of Critical Strike at 80–95. That blues give Sacred Shards and the dungeons drop blues is from game knowledge.
  • Disenchant Castle Nathria, Revendreth Every Shadowlands raid drop is epic and disenchants into an Eternal Crystal. A max-level character solos all ten bosses; Normal, Heroic and Mythic each have their own weekly lockout, so clear it on all three.
Disenchant Sanctum of Domination and Sepulcher of the First Ones, The Maw and Zereth Mortis The two later raids drop epics too, for more crystals once Castle Nathria is locked for the week.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The Shadowlands Enchanting guide needs 33, for the Eternal enchants from 70 to 115. Which raids drop what is from game knowledge.

Dragonflight Enchanting 1–100 4 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Disenchant Uncommon Dragonflight gear, Dragon Isles Green items from the Dragon Isles break down into it, so keep and disenchant the greens that drop while you farm Dragon Isles mobs, such as the Wildercloth camps in the Azure Span.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. That green Dragonflight gear is what gives it is from game knowledge; the item's tooltip says only that it comes from disenchanting.
  • Disenchant Dragonflight dungeons, Dragon Isles Rare (blue) Dragonflight gear disenchants into it. A max-level character clears the expansion's normal dungeons in a few minutes, and the bosses' blue drops are the steadiest supply.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. That blue Dragonflight gear gives it, and that the dungeons are the place for that gear, is from game knowledge; the item's tooltip says only that it comes from disenchanting.
  • Gather Among trees and thick foliage, Dragon Isles Herbalism. Writhebark grows where trees and undergrowth are dense, so keep a herbalism loop to the wooded stretches of the zones the herbalism guide routes through: the Waking Shore, Ohn'ahran Plains and the Azure Span.
Needs Herbalism. The guides list one quality rank's item id, but any rank will do: they say quality does not matter for leveling. Inscription needs 55, keeping 35 unmilled for Runed Writhebark; Alchemy needs 35 and Enchanting 8. No source says which zone has the most. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Draconium Deposits on a mining loop, The Waking Shore, The Azure Span or Ohn'ahran Plains Mining. Draconium is the less common Dragon Isles ore but is found all over the isles, so any loop through the zones the mining guide routes through gathers it; Rich deposits give extra ore.
Needs Mining. The guides list one quality rank's item id, but any rank will do: they say quality does not matter for leveling. Blacksmithing needs 300, Engineering 42 and Enchanting 3, for a Runed Draconium Rod. The mining guide does not rank the zones. Easy to buy, too.

  • 673 × Storm Dust
Disenchant Uncommon War Within gear, Khaz Algar Green Khaz Algar items disenchant into it. Farming humanoids, such as the nerubians by the Opalcreg mine on the Isle of Dorn, throws off plenty of greens to break down.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. The Designated Disenchanter specialization, with its Uncommon Utilitarian branch, raises the quality of the dust you get.
  • Gather Irradiated herbs, Khaz Algar Irradiated is one of the empowered herb types that replace ordinary Khaz Algar herbs at random, so there is no set route: loop any of the four zones and pick every Irradiated herb you pass.
Needs Herbalism. A Phial of Truesight shows the camouflaged nodes as well, about a fifth more to pick. Easy to buy, too.
  • Gather Sporefused herbs, Khaz Algar Sporefused is one of the empowered herb types that stand in for ordinary Khaz Algar herbs at random, so there is no set place: loop any of the four zones and pick every Sporefused herb you pass.
Needs Herbalism; miners do not get it. A Phial of Truesight shows the camouflaged nodes as well, about a fifth more to pick. Enchanting needs 22, one for each Gleeful Glamour; Inscription 22, for four Algari Missives and one Vantus Rune. Easy to buy, too.
  • Disenchant War Within dungeons, Khaz Algar Rare (blue) War Within gear disenchants into it. A max-level character runs through the Khaz Algar dungeons on Normal in a few minutes each and breaks down every blue the bosses drop.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. That blue War Within gear gives it, and that the dungeons are the place for that gear, is from game knowledge; Wowhead says only that it is looted. The Enchanting guide needs 26, 25 of them for the five weapon enchants at 70–80, and the Authority enchants at 91–100 take 30 more; Jewelcrafting needs 1, for an Incanter's Shard.
  • Farm Delves at tier 8 and up, Khaz Algar One of the four Delve reagents, not a craft: it drops in the expansion's Delves, best from tier 8 upward. Fungal Folly on the Isle of Dorn is the quickest Delve to run again and again.
Buy Sir Finley Mrrgglton, Delver's Headquarters, Dornogal (Isle of Dorn) His Delver's Pouch of Reagents costs 500 Undercoin, the currency Delves pay out, and holds three random Delve reagents, so only some of them are ingots.
The Enchanting guide needs 5, one for each weapon enchant at 70–80, and says to skip those enchants if ingots are dear; Authority of Storms at 91–100 takes 3 more. Borgos, the Blacksmithing supplier in Dornogal, takes three ingots for a Profaned Tinderbox. Easy to buy, too.
  • Disenchant Nerub-ar Palace, Azj-Kahet Epic War Within gear disenchants into it, and every raid drop is epic. A max-level character solos the whole raid; Normal, Heroic and Mythic each keep their own weekly lockout, so clear all three.
Disenchant Liberation of Undermine and Manaforge Omega, Undermine and K'aresh The expansion's later raids drop epics too, for more crystals once Nerub-ar Palace is locked for the week.
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. That epic War Within gear gives it, and which raids to clear, is from game knowledge; Wowhead says only that it is looted. The Enchanting guide needs 5, one for each weapon enchant at 70–80, and the Authority enchants at 91–100 take 6 more.

Midnight Enchanting 1–100 3 materials

Estimated materials

As the guide lists them. Expect to need a few more where a recipe turns yellow or green before the next one.

  • Disenchant Uncommon Midnight gear, Eversong Woods, Zul'Aman, Harandar, Voidstorm Green items from the Midnight zones break down into it; disenchant the greens from questing, world quests and any mob farming in the new zones.
Craft Radiant Shatter Enchanters learn it from the trainer at Midnight Enchanting 50; it breaks one Radiant Shard into three Eversinging Dust. From 1 × Radiant Shard (Enchanting).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. That green Midnight gear is what gives it is from game knowledge; the item's tooltip says only that it comes from disenchanting.
  • Disenchant Rare Midnight gear, Eversong Woods, Zul'Aman, Harandar, Voidstorm Blue items from the Midnight zones break down into it: disenchant the rares from dungeons, rare mobs and world quests.
Craft Dawn Shatter Enchanters learn it from the trainer at Midnight Enchanting 25; it breaks one Dawn Crystal into three Radiant Shards. From 1 × Dawn Crystal (Enchanting).
Disenchanting needs Enchanting; anyone else should buy it, which is easy. That blue Midnight gear is what gives it is from game knowledge; the item's tooltip says only that it comes from disenchanting. The Enchanting guide wants 27 by skill 62, three for each helm and shoulder enchant and twelve for the four Thalassian Spellweaver's Wands.
  • Gather Lightfused herbs and ore deposits, Eversong Woods Herbalism or Mining. Lightfused nodes, glowing and marked on the minimap, nearly all grow in Eversong Woods and always give motes; gathering one scatters light orbs to catch for more. Loop the rivers for herbs or the zone's edge for ore.
Needs Herbalism or Mining; both together double the Lightfused nodes. Overloading a Lightfused node (the Overload ability, learned from your first infused node) throws up far more orbs. A few Lightfused nodes grow in parts of Harandar too. Alchemy wants 12, 10 of them for one Transmute: Mote of Wild Magic, and 80 more for the Light's Potential route to 100; Enchanting 6, Leatherworking 4, Engineering and Inscription 1 each. Easy to buy, too.
